"Kate's Rebranding Masterclass May Finally See off Meghan"

MrsMaxDeWinter · 08/02/2023 14:13

"Five months since she moved up to the second tier of the monarchy, the Princess has started beefing up her top team to make sure she succeeds not only with her “life’s work” on child development, but also with the task of besting Meghan Markle."

Why does Meghan have to look bad for Kate to look good? Why does Meghan need to be bested or seen off? Why is it a competition?

If Kate was on MN, her posts would be,

It doesn't matter what I do, al anyone cares about is how what I'm doing might be perceived in the context of my SIL. I buy a new dress, "ooh, you're trying to show up SIL". I get a new job, "Ooh, that must be a way to prove you're better than SIL." I take my children to school, "Oooh, you're trying to prove you're a better mother than SIL."

I have barely seen SIL in the last 4 years. We have zero relationship, she lives in another country. So why does everyone seem to think I'm obsessed with her?

Come to think of it, Meghan could probably post the same. The media have a LOT to answer for. It's disgusting.

Plitvice · 08/02/2023 17:13

As the POW, Kate is Queen Bee and has absolutely no competition. Why would she need to rebrand and why would she need a masterclass? Who is Meghan?

MarshaBradyo · 08/02/2023 17:15

Because it’s a story people react to and gets more SM hits and comments

MrsMaxDeWinter · 08/02/2023 17:22

This has been interesting.

The "Meghan Made Kate Cry" story, which was believed by many here, was also published in this newspaper.

This is not presented as an op-ed, or commentary, but as a straight news story in the same way that "Meghan Made Kate Cry" was presented as a news story ... by the same newspaper.

Always fascinating to see what people choose to believe, depending on who it is about😄

The press has positioned those two as rivals from the moment Meghan arrived. They either had to be best-buddy SILs or hissing cats, it seems, just because they married brothers.

And yes, I'm sure if Archie appears in public at the same time as Louis, those little boys will be compared for deportment, behaviour, etc, and god help one of them if he's, as young children do, having an off day.

Kate is just getting on with her job. Why would she give a thought to Meghan Markle who does no royal duties and lives in the USA.

Bride under pressure, new mum with all that goes with that, I always thought they probably both had a cry.

Indeed. You would think the Telegraph would be aware of that, yet this is the headline, and the angle they chose, making Meghan the standard, and Kate, the competitor who has to "best her" and "see her off". Very odd.

I thought it sounded like a stressful situation on both sides - Meghan big wedding and Dad issues and Kate 3 week post birth and trying to get her DD outfit sorted for an event on international stage. The main problem seemed to be the fashion house delivering non fitting dresses and another group having to work right up to deadline.

This seems a natural place for Kate to step up and do more and nothing to do with Meghan.

Seems like typical press pitting women against each other to sell papers.

MarshaBradyo · 08/02/2023 17:36

I agree it’s a weak story and doesn’t make sense

Kate doesn’t need to ‘rebrand’

Not sure I agree with that interpretation of the article.

However raising children is often not valued in our culture - though honestly many papers mange to take shots women at what every they do.

So long as Catherine doesn't write twee messages on banana skins she'll be fine

They were twee messages that resulted in an unprecedented amount of donations to the charity in question. So by doing it, Meghan managed to raise more than just 'awareness'. Which seems to be all that Kate's latest project is setting out to do.

Not sure Kate has rebranded. She’s just stepped up since the passing of the Queen. A natural progression and doing a good job too.

Very funny and true.

Today in Westminster Hall, President Zelensky mentioned how good it was to meet 'William and Catherine' on a previous visit to the UK. Kate doesn't need to do anything. She is an internationally high status person.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 08/02/2023 20:19

Do you think they chose to use a picture of Kate in a red suit to draw a comparison to Meghan who looked stunning in a red trouser suit last year I think?

She may have looked stunning to you but most of us can see that Kate has the height and build to showcase expensive clothes much better.

Yikes those comments under the article are uniformly scathing.

@derxa great to see the continuing support for Ukraine. Mind you, Meghan and Harry were the first members of the Royal Family to express public support for Ukraine, and boy, were they hammered. But it was nice to see how quickly the rest of the royals followed with their own statements of support.

How depressing. She is of high status so shouldn't have to do anything?

They've left "the Firm" and aren't working royals anymore, but as son of the monarch, Harry is always going to be a member of the royal family.

They are members of the Royal Family.

They left the UK, and are no longer "working royals". But I believe Harry and his children remain in the Line of Succession, his father is king, so they are still part of the Royal Family. They just don't work for the Family any more.
