"Kate's Rebranding Masterclass May Finally See off Meghan"

MrsMaxDeWinter · 08/02/2023 14:13

"Five months since she moved up to the second tier of the monarchy, the Princess has started beefing up her top team to make sure she succeeds not only with her “life’s work” on child development, but also with the task of besting Meghan Markle."

Why does Meghan have to look bad for Kate to look good? Why does Meghan need to be bested or seen off? Why is it a competition?

@jeffgoldblum

  1. You are in a hole - stop digging you are embarrassing yourself
  1. You aren't in the Uk?? What do you care then
Novella4 · 12/02/2023 14:45

@Lizziet64

So it's condescending to use a standard English term correctly?

If someone is unlettered enough to take umbrage because they didn't understand it - that is not the poster's fault

And MrsDeWinter IS erudite and enhances these threads .

jeffgoldblum · 12/02/2023 14:51

I'm in the U.K. , no where did I say I wasn't, I was born here , not that it's anyone's business.
I'm allowed to be offended.
Others are allowed not to be offended.
I didn't ask other's opinions on if they were offended, it's between myself and other poster . It's been deleted and hopefully that will be the end of it .
Context is key , other posters can post what they wish , however it's not the first veiled insult I've had on here , from posters who must think I'm some other poster and make accusations, maybe I'm being sensitive, however it's best not to post nasty comments to other posters directly if you don't want to offend.
Also I don't dig , I'm too lazy!

Novella4 · 12/02/2023 14:54

You misunderstood'fellow travellers ' and said where you live it means something else - so I assumed you were not in the UK .
It was a standard phrase

MrsMaxDeWinter · 12/02/2023 15:02

@Novella4 my jaw was initially on the floor. Then I started laughing. Have just shared this incident with two friends, and they can't stop howling. 😅

I was about to make a reference to Philip Roth's novel The Human Stain which is triggered by a similar plot point, then I caught myself. I don't want to be accused of calling people human stains!

With all due respect, I don't care what you think . You didn't read the post as it was deleted. Context is key .
And although I am very well read , it is not a common phrase that I have seen , maybe I read other things maybe it's more political or poetry based that doesn't interest me .
That post also contained other comments that was unkind and untrue.
Implying I'm in league with other critical posters , which I'm not as I don't post often.
Im not sure why you feel the need to keep posting about something that has nothing to do with you.

@Lizziet64 you remind me of the "you speak such good English" people that I used to meet all the time when I was a student, as though it was a surprise that an African woman could speak English well. So I will put your comments about me in the same box I put those comments. It's the box where I keep all my fucks. Hint: it's empty.

Its done on purpose when the thread is not going they way of H&M hate as hoped.
Posters get jumpy and touchy (or at least pretend to be).

My post was deleted as 'misunderstood', when the poster clearly quoted me and responded to my comment about the media. They talked about the media, I answered about the media.

Suddenly, no one understood my response was about the media (despite me actually talking about the media throughout said post).

You are right. It's a common tactic.

They want this thread deleted.

I can't believe how many times you have a poke at MrsMax on this theme. It's endless
And juvenile.

Do you get off on it?!

No. 'notanotheroneagain accused a poster of racism where none existed. There was nothing to misunderstand.

I doubt it’s that. More mnhq thought it should be deleted when considering why

More like MNHQ was pressured by reports, as it sometimes happens.
It was clearly directed at the media- as was the subject matter and core of the posts.

I read the post and didn't respond as I thought the misunderstanding would sort itself out. MN deleted it because it offended posters who reported it. I don't believe they sincerely thought Mrs M was being racist it seemed more of an attempt at "gotcha" and yes deletion of the thread. I don't believe MN looked into the context just reacted as anyone reading it could have worked out what the phrase meant within its context. But if certain posters want to believe they were being aligned to the traveller community Hmmwell what can you do.

It's the funniest form of manufactured outrage I have seen on these threads😁😁

She isn't black, the one drop rule is vile and racist and as the white mother of mixed race children I wish people would stop writing the white side of the family out.

African Americans refer to the one drop rule all the time. Not really up to you to dictate this as 'vile and racist'.

Just to clarify - the one drop rule is a white supremacist rule which was meant to disenfranchise the children created as a product of the rape of enslaved women. American society perpetuated this system post slavery by actively discriminating against mixed race people if they were able to be viably perceived as black in any way.

Many mixed race people have not been able to “pass” as white and with passing be able to be enjoy the privileges inherent with being perceived as white. When black people claim mixed race people as black - they are not denying their other identities but offering them a tent in which to navigate a world which is not always fair or friendly to non white people.

It was really odd

ancientgran · 12/02/2023 16:30

I'm a bit uncomfortable about the idea of being a traveller being such a terrible thing. I mean travellers are people just like everyone else, I bet no one on here is going to say anything nasty about travellers to Tyson Fury, lots will be fans of Sean Connery whose grandparents (or maybe great grandparents were Irish travellers) Dr Sindy Joyce probably has higher academic qualifications than many on here. Of course there are many others, is it really some sort of slur?

That's apart from the fact that it doesn't seem it had anything to do with the traveller community.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 12/02/2023 16:37

Thanks @ancientgran

On to your point about mixed race kids, this is exactly what Meghan was talking about when she said to say she is white disrespects her mother's heritage, while to say she is only black disrespects her father's.

She has written very thoughtfully about being mixed race.

At the same time, as she has experienced, and I genuinely hope your kids don't experience it too, being mixed race, and having a white parent, as @skullbabe eloquently explains, is no protection against structural racism.

When people of colour are subjected to racism, to police brutality and general discrimination, there is no difference made between those who have a white parent, or grand parent. Race is a social construct, not just a purely biological one.

I absolutely support what MM said and I particularly liked her story about her father getting two sets of dolls, one black and one white, mixed them to represent her family. I thought that was a lovely thing and it obviously meant a lot to her as she remembered it and told the story.

confused what is wrong with being a traveler?

PreparationPreparationPrep · 12/02/2023 17:56

🤣 honestly - nothing at all. The phrase was used further down to mean a collective / groups and some posters thought it was being used as racist insult - that post was reported by some abs deleted by MN. Just that!

MrsMaxDeWinter · 12/02/2023 18:02

@Samcro you really had to be there.

I ended up having to explain the meaning of the term "fellow traveller", (a common English term used to describe people who sympathise with a particular view) complete with academic references, because I was accused of racism and my post was reported and deleted.
