Do we really need it? My first thought is no we don't, the money would be better spent on the NHS!

I think it's a lovely thing to have (I really like the royal family though). I think the procession and the street parties will be lovely- must admit not sure about a day of volunteering though!

Funinthesun31 · 22/01/2023 08:27

Sorry posted too soon! I'll have a small baby in May so will have to sit that one out!

GooseberryCinnamonYogurt · 22/01/2023 08:28

All this for a king who expressed a desire to be a tampon? I think he's out of touch with reality. For me any loyalty to the RF died alongside our late Queen.

It's projected to cost 100 million. It feels like Charles is throwing himself a party while the villagers starve.

MintyFreshOne · 22/01/2023 08:31

Does anyone really care about the next generation of Royals? Only the Queen really ever mattered. Too bad Anne couldn’t get tapped for the top job

Is he not allowed to have sexual desires and be crap at expressing them? He is human.

I've said way worse than that in private conversations to lovers that weren't being hacked. Give over already.

The coronation will be somewhat pared down. Elizabeth II's was post war and the first ever televised coronation, so they went all out, plus she was young and beautiful. This one will not be on that scale, although it'll still be a sight to behold.

growinggreyer · 22/01/2023 08:39

Following all the tiara talk on this board, I can't wait to see what jewellery comes out of the vaults and who gets to wear what. It will be a historical spectacle and we all get ringside seats.

Bit nasty, I’m sure you have stupid things to people when you believe the conversation is private. Would you want people painting you with that stuff all your life?

AutumnCrow · 22/01/2023 08:41

I’m more concerned about the psychological horrors of another concert and that they don’t let Sir Rod Stewart loose on his own again to sing a terrifying Sweet Caroline.

They need a ‘super group’ of Sir Rod, Sir Tom and Alfie Boe, so Rod can have a nice vocal rest.

trucklebrunch · 22/01/2023 08:41

I'm looking forward to seeing Charles crowned, I really like him and see him as a very soft and kind man. I think Camilla is a great lady too.

I wish him and his family well, they support some really worthy causes, perform some mundane & boring duties and the RF bring in billions in tourism.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 22/01/2023 08:47

£100 million?? It’s like Game of Thrones where the royals feast while the paupers scavenge for rats.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 22/01/2023 08:50

Self indulgent nonsense. They are both old enough to know that a nice quiet ceremony might be more in keeping with the public mood.

C8H10N4O2 · 22/01/2023 08:50

No we don't need a three day circus bigging up the status of an already over wealthy, largely under performing and entitled family.

So much for all the performant "slimming down the monarchy" - that was never going to persist through to Charles' own spending. He has long be famous for his demands for grandiosity even in small things where the late Queen was always quite modest/practical.

Charles has form for this - remember all the "Camilla will never take the title of Queen" followed by a lengthy PR campaign of soft focus articles and now the Kings former mistress will be crowned Queen. Kate had better look out!

Goatling · 22/01/2023 08:51

I think it's all in bad taste, so many people struggling to feed their children or heat their homes, so many striking for a decent living wage and the NHS in crisis. The royals don't have a clue how most of us live and think, as long as they have a life of luxury they don't give a stuff about the rest of us. They can shove their street parties, their woke agenda, the golden coaches and banquets, I wont be sorry to see the back of them.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 22/01/2023 08:57

I’m not the biggest fan of the guy, but why do people continually do that? It’s a complete misrepresentation of what he said. He did not express a desire to be a tampon at all.

CHARLES: Oh, God. I'll just live inside your trousers or something. It would be much easier!

CAMILLA (laughing): What are you going to turn into, a pair of knickers? (Both laugh). Oh, you're going to come back as a pair of knickers.

CHARLES: Or, God forbid, a Tampax. Just my luck! (Laughs)

Mumdiva99 · 22/01/2023 09:01

I can't wait. I'm looking forward to it. (Charles has already donated a lot to struggling families.)

DillDanding · 22/01/2023 09:06

Another huge waste of public money.

We are, thankfully, going away with mates, so will miss it.

ShippingNews · 22/01/2023 09:06

All this for a king who expressed a desire to be a tampon? And I take it that you've never said something cringey during a private conversation with a lover?

DomesticShortHair · 22/01/2023 09:07

If you think the money would be better spent off on the NHS, then I think you’re very naive as to how effective the NHS is at spending money where it actually makes a difference. You could give it ten times as much, and as far as patient outcomes are concerned, it wouldn’t change a thing.

purpledalmation · 22/01/2023 09:11

I wonder what changed from it being scaled down? It is far less that his mothers coronation in terms of people invited.

superdupernova · 22/01/2023 09:12

I'm really looking forward to it.

As for giving the money to the NHS, what do you think that will achieve? It's a drop in the ocean. They'd have much more money if they seriously overhauled the current waste.

PeekAtYou · 22/01/2023 09:14

Considering that he won't be King for long, completely inappropriate to have a massive coronation. Is the prefix "mega" something that you came up with?

As for the NHS, they wouldn't get this coronation money even if it were available. Like the £350m per week bus dream, it would never happen. Extra money like the coronation budget is only made available because the rich and powerful can benefit from it. Even if Charles wanted something simple, it will clearly be used to advertise Brexit Britain.
