Harry admits to bullying?

I actually really like Will, Kate and Meghan. I am not a massive fan of Harry though. However, this part of Spare makes me feel pretty uneasy. I had not made up my mind on whether I believed the bullying allegations, but I think this proves them true (at least to me.)

Obviously, this is Harry's version of events, and naturally there is two other sides here (the staff + William's side.)

Worse was his new revisionist claim / justification / explanation / excuse - first time revealed last night on The Late Show interview - that his “whole goal” in writing the Taliban number was “to reduce suicides” in the military / vet community.

Astonishingly disingenuous and crass to stoop so low.

I was disgusted by this too. The whole Late Show interview was cringing and embarrassing. Goodness know what he’s on and why on earth doesn’t Meghan realise how totally delusional he sounds?

Lockupyourbiscuits · 11/01/2023 15:08

Just Horrible
How dare he say that to justify his stupid , crass comments
Im disgusted he would use suicidal service men and women to justify himself
Despicable

He is just making it up as he goes along at this point. I don't think the inconsistencies bother him as long as he gets paid loads. There will always be supporters as seen on MN. However, he is visibly not enjoying himself (nor is he distraught) . There is a detachment between his gestures/expressions and his (mostly rehearsed) stock answers. It could be medication but Harry is not 100% present and engaged in the moment.

bakalava · 11/01/2023 16:32

It is observable almost 100% of the time in patients with a particular condition but I am absolutely not going further than that. 😑

NoOrdinaryFlour · 11/01/2023 17:06

I'm intrigued @bakalava any hints?

The Behaviour Panel (body language experts) have analysed the Anderson Cooper video.

No it doesn’t bother him he was asked and said it was his truth which may not be the factual truth, but it’s his truth.

yup . I shit you not.

'Stupid, arrogant and cognitive dissonant.' Yep, they aren't buying it, are they?

I couldn't believe his response to the question about giving up the titles. It was disbelief that it's even been thought of and he can't see the contradiction at all in publicly trashing his family and the monarchy and yet hanging on to the titles.

Only one of the resignations is addressed in the book from what I can remember and at that its that palace HR made someone resign because of solicting freebies which seems a bit ironic given that Meghan was accepting freebies which isn't allowed either but someone who works for a living loses her job for that.

They don't have a particularly large staff from what they say but there are multiple people who are struggling, depressed or off sick.

Would love to know what the story is behind this. I remember one of the people who left, the Sussex's put out a statement saying what a great employee she was and I don't remember them doing it for anyone else which struck me as very odd.

Also as someone who has worked as a PA, an employer needs to be really specific with you that they don't expect you to be reading your emails out of hours and that if they email you outside of hours you shouldn't read it and shouldn't have notifications etc.

I wonder why none of that kindness to staff made it into the Low book? nor the stuff about a member of staff being sacked for taking freebies. In fact, the only mention of free gifts I can find is the amount being sent to KP for MM and that she couldn't understand the protocol that she couldn't keep them.

What's an 'ice-cream social' when it's at home?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 11/01/2023 20:32

The only person I can see mentioned in connection with the freebies is Melissa Touabti, who was, Low says, punctilious in following the rule that they could not be accepted and who left six months after joining KP; which issued an official statement about how much she would be missed. So if Touabti is the assistant H is referring to, his account is BS.

Ice-cream social sound a bit cringe.

And why does the extract say that Meghan 'shared all the freebies she received'? I thought the policy was that all freebies were to be returned untouched to the sender?

Serenster · 11/01/2023 20:38

The freebies thing shows that Meghan was fundamentally unsuited to the role. She 100% will have been told that there are no freebies. Valentine Low’s book says that one of the reasons that her PA Melissa Toubati resigned was because she insisted on sending them back, and Meghan wanted to keep them. Coincidentally that’s the same person Harry here says had to resign because she was accepting freebies. If that’s true, Harry, the same rules apply to your and your wife.

(I spent much of my career in public sector roles where we were all subject the same roles, and everyone was expected to comply with them, from the CEO to the admin staff. The CEO kept a separate register of everything they received so it could be published).

The Palace has its own guidelines and they apply to family members as well.

bakalava · 11/01/2023 20:39

Gave out the freebies which she didn't want to keep, more likely. Imposed her superior forms of American socialisation on staff to show them a better way when all they wanted in the 99% of remaining time was to be left to lie in at 5am and not be screamed at.

That's Low's point about why MM and Touabti fell out - because the latter was saying they couldn't be accepted - not 'OK, but only if you give them to staff.' And there were clashes (plural) over it.

If Touabti is the 'assistant' H is referring to she'll be steaming. She's been accused of having been dismissed for being dishonest.

Low says differently. I hope Touabti takes this further. She's been accused of dishonesty in print.

Yes, just because she hasn't been named doesn't mean she's not identifiable.

I hope KP releases her from her NDA. They should have done more to protect her and her colleagues from being bullied, so this seems like the least they could do now.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 11/01/2023 20:47

You are right.

If a new person starts in a senior role and suddenly the workplace culture is weeping people everywhere, I’d be eyeballing the new person too.

I don’t think MM is the devil like many people but I do believe the staff who said she bullied them. American workplace cultures are VERY different. Work/life balance is not nearly as considered as in the UK and employees scramble to work the most and the most overtime even in unpaid. I can fully believe an American would have different expectations of staff than a Brit would be used to

But many of Meghan's staff were not British. The 'whistleblower', Jason Knauf, is from Texas.

Private sector but we still had to complete a annual register of gifts received (very easy in my case 😩)

It doesn’t matter - it’s a British workplace. Having worked in both, you’d have to experience it to realise the extent of the stark differences.

I didn’t actually know Knauf was Texan. Interesting and explains a lot about his approaches to always looking for opportunities for the Sussexes to sell themselves.

miri1985 · 11/01/2023 20:53

I thought MM's 6 week maternity leave with Archie was indicative that she was bringing the worst of American office culture.

I used to work in the States and the amount of people who wanted a pat on the back for working all hours and also not taking the paltry amount of vacation days that we got.
