The fact that meghan said, and Harry believed, she had spent “hours and hours” with dressmakers getting the original scalloped tiara to match the scallop veil edge shows, IMO, one of two things:

  1. meghan is a wild exaggerator and Harry is stupid. I had a high end dress custom made for my wedding. For this type of thing she would just need to hand over to the extremely experienced professionals. Meghan would have no input to this.
  2. meghan is an enormous control freak who stood over them for hours to make sure it was perfect

Harry trying to paint this unbelievably first world issue as arduous is yet another example of how ludicrously out of touch with reality she is. Poor Meghan, she went with another diamond tiara and hours of her time were wasted. I mean she had to take off time from her busy schedule of borrowing lipglosses and battling Willy’s finger to boss dressmakers around.

there is also an amusing quote somewhere about how Harry reassured Charles Meghan would not be a large cost addition for him as she “makes her own clothes”. Did she borrow her entire character from Snow White? Seal singing, dress making?

Reading about Eugenie made me google her wedding day. She’s a stunning bride. My favourite out of all the royal weddings, love her dress.

Agree. Gorgeous dress, gorgeous make up and hair, fantastic tiara!

One of my fave royal brides was post Diana, Lady Sarah Chatto, I thought she looked stunning www.tatler.com/article/lady-sarah-chatto-wedding

I liked Kate's dress but didn't like her hair and tiara on the day. Meghan's would have been lovely if it fit properly, I would love to know did she lose weight or was it the intended fit

Kate’s dress was stunning but potentially her make up was too heavy. I do think they often overdo her make up

I thought Eugenie and Beatrice had beautiful dresses. After all the years of the media cruelly mocking their clothing choices, I was so happy that their bridal looks blew everyone away.

Well quite.

I think it's all very sad that we now know that something that was believed to be a beautiful gesture was really an empty one

Meghan’s opinions change with the wind depending on what she thinks is the most zeitgeisty thing to say on any given day.

when she wanted to be accepted here, the commonwealth veil and love for commonwealth made sense. Now she wants the RF to be evil racists, her opinion needs to change to match!

Eugenie’s reception dress was wow!

Re the fit of Megan’s wedding dress:

I have a friend who owns a couple of bridal boutiques and I asked her just after the wedding what she thought of the fit. She told me it had to be like that to accommodate a bullet/stabproof vest underneath.

Obviously I have no idea if that’s true but it would be a plausible explanation for the baggy fit.

Some people will believe any old shite.

RosesAndHellebores · 08/01/2023 13:32

I'd have thought most brides without a family tiara of their own would be grateful to be offered a limited choice by their groom's family.

Presumably the Markle tiara would have been a neon plastic Alice band.

MalagaNights · 08/01/2023 13:32

The Strathmore Rose tiara is gorgeous.

I love the way the queen mother wore it in a 20s style across her forehead.

I think that would have looked amazing on Meghan, she could have carried that off with a sleek low bun or with flowing hair no veil, would have been very chic.

Who do we have to look forward to seeing wear all these tiaras?
I guess Charlotte, and Zara's girls? Peter Philips daughters?

Will they all get a lone of a tiara?

MissMarpleRocks · 08/01/2023 13:36

Meghan’s tiara on the day was perfect. Not as keen on her day dress but the evening dress was sensational.

Eugenie just looked so radiant & her wedding dress is one of my favourites.

Seriously. And a lot of them are on MN.

It was complicated by the fact that Meghan's hairdresser had flown in from the States so was only available for a short time.
Kate's hairdresser practised with one from Claire's Accessories, which actually seems like a quick and practical option (with no security worries).

I don’t think her hairdresser did a particularly good job for the ceremony. Wisps and strands of her hair gradually fell out.

Maireas · 08/01/2023 14:37

I agree, @Gilmorehill - I thought her hair was very disappointing, considering the expense, time and effort. I've seen it looking better in far less formal situations.

Tiara/coronation question!

Do you think all the aristos will have to wear the family tiaras at the coronation? Or do you think they will relax the dress code because of optics.

if Meghan does go and does wear a tiara….which one will it be??!!!!!

She would be in the best position to borrow anything she wanted from Garrad, Boucheron etc! Just imagine rocking up with a fancier tiara than Kate!

Aristos will wear their family tiaras. But I read something about Charles not requiring Dukes to kneel and vow allegiance - I think it's because when The Queen was crowned the place was full of hereditary Lords, but now that the House of Lords has very few hereditary peers and most are politicians I don't think they have the same role and can't be expected kneel and vow allegiance. And there will be no family tiaras among them. But I think the Aristos will still wear theirs - why turn up and opportunity to give it an airing.

DaughterOfPsychiatrist · 08/01/2023 14:48

Beatrice is defo my fave royal bride of recent years but then I love 30s-50s vintage.

Kate’s dress was vintage inspired, with a big dash of Princess Grace (Kelly) of Monaco (and as PP has shown above, very Julie A in the SoM!) so she’s in my number 2 spot.

Agree with PP, Harry’s bullshit is making me increasingly defensive/fond of the royals! Something I did not see coming.

And yes, Eugenie and Beatrice’s story arc from Fashion Disasters to Fashionistas has been satisfying. Both have done a reasonable job of walking the line between (non working) royal and normie.

I hope they all keep their traps shut and leave Harry digging his own stupid hole (although I can imagine a carefully rehearsed remark being ‘randomly’ made to a member of the public during a dull engagement that then makes international news?)

Apparently only William will do this now. It’s to avoid any nastiness with Harold and Andrew. And I suspect the Dukes of Kent and Gloucester would have trouble getting up again so it spares them embarrassment!

I remember watching some documentary on YouTube about a handful of hereditary lords (perhaps the ones that still had the title but no longer had the family pile? I can’t quite remember) and one got his ermine and coronet out of a cupboard to demonstrate how the fur was all motheaten and going bald (as fur stored at normal room temps tends to do over decades).

There must be some right horrors coming out of stately lofts right now!

ShamedBySiri · 08/01/2023 14:56

As to Meghan and Harry - I feel sure they will come, I can't see M turning up that opportunity and for all his nonsense Harry will also want to be there, probably for all the wrong reasons.
There could be a decision not to lend M and jewellery/tiara but the Royals would want to be seen to be the better people so they probably will make one available.
However, The Queen was said to have said "Meghan gets what tiara I give her" (or similar) and The Queen is now Camilla.
She has options.
She could dig out something very small and insignificant from Claire's accessories or she could decide on something huge and ugly, definitely not M's style but in keeping with her ego. And for the ultimate slap down drag AK47 out of retirement to fit it for her, freezing looks and all.
That would definitely be the way I would go. But then I have a mean streak.

ShamedBySiri · 08/01/2023 15:00

@DaughterOfPsychiatrist what horrors!
Mum had a fur hat and one day I heard funny noises in her room and found my terrier doing battle with it. I scooped up the terrier and left Mum to discover the chewed hat. She retrieved small lumps of fur from around the room and glued them back on and continued to wear the hat.
The old lords just need to shoot a bunny or two and have a tube of superglue at the ready! Grin

Orangefir · 08/01/2023 15:01

Youre right @ShamedBySiri

but I think if Meghan didn’t get offered what she wanted in terms of tiara. I think she’d be off to Harry Winstons to have her Pretty Woman moment. She would have the worlds top jewellers begging her to wear their jewels

I hope to god she doesn’t wear the Saudi earrings though!

ShamedBySiri · 08/01/2023 15:06

Ah. I didn't think of that. She'll probably bring one over from Hollywood and get paid to wear it.

As well as the $$$$ it will mean she won't have to grovel to anyone at Buck Pal to get her hands on a tiara.

Tbf that's what I would do in her shoes.

RosesAndHellebores · 08/01/2023 15:06

Judging from the threads on MNet if Harry and Meghan turn up they will be pelted with rotten fruit and eggs.

I don't think they should come. They have now completely earned the antipathy of the public and deserve to be treated like the late Duke and Duchess of Windsor.

I hope they are written out of everything.

Maireas · 08/01/2023 15:09

People won't bother to pelt them with anything. They'll turn up at the Coronation and everyone will be polite, as usual.

DaughterOfPsychiatrist · 08/01/2023 15:10

@ShamedBySiri 🤣🤣

I once owned a stole made of several small unidentified pelts. Too ratty (and too un PC!) to wear, I think I got it from Dalston Rag Market?
My friend took to calling it ‘The Triplets’ as each pelt was intact with all four paws and tail, and horrific glass eyes. The mouth of one was the clip to keep it on.

I eventually binned it after a kitten took against, dragging it all over the flat and chewing a few paws off 🙈

I wonder if Camilla is currently trying on the entire royal tiara collection, trying to decide which is the pinchiest/heaviest etc? If they lend Meg something really weighty she might have to bow her head, giving the appearance of deference!

A few extra weights stitched inside Hazza’s velvet coronet should ensure a similar effect..

ShamedBySiri · 08/01/2023 15:13

Haha. I know exactly the sort you mean, as modelled here by a guest at my Mother's wedding!

I agree.

They have never been working royals & often when "papped" are at private events.

Looking back at K&W's wedding-I'm not sure that what Eugenie wore would have suited anyone!

Loved Beatrice's outfit.

I think that both the hats were Philip Treacey.

Wtaf was he even thinking??
