The fact that meghan said, and Harry believed, she had spent “hours and hours” with dressmakers getting the original scalloped tiara to match the scallop veil edge shows, IMO, one of two things:

  1. meghan is a wild exaggerator and Harry is stupid. I had a high end dress custom made for my wedding. For this type of thing she would just need to hand over to the extremely experienced professionals. Meghan would have no input to this.
  2. meghan is an enormous control freak who stood over them for hours to make sure it was perfect

Harry trying to paint this unbelievably first world issue as arduous is yet another example of how ludicrously out of touch with reality she is. Poor Meghan, she went with another diamond tiara and hours of her time were wasted. I mean she had to take off time from her busy schedule of borrowing lipglosses and battling Willy’s finger to boss dressmakers around.

there is also an amusing quote somewhere about how Harry reassured Charles Meghan would not be a large cost addition for him as she “makes her own clothes”. Did she borrow her entire character from Snow White? Seal singing, dress making?

Eugénie was supposed to be married before Meghan, but she agreed to postpone it because M&H were in a hurry and didn’t want to wait their turn. The Queen rewarded her with a’better ‘ tiara.

or so the official account goes ( maybe HM TQ just like her granddaughter more ? She certainly expressed surprise at Meghan being veiled like a virgin bride).

Ah, I didn't know that Eugenie was supposed to be married first. That sort of makes sense.
But I was hoping that the real reason was that it had always been planned for Eugenie to wear it. I imagined Beatrice and Eugenie as little girls going through their grandma's jewels with her and picking out which tiaras they both wanted to wear when they got married and that the Greville tiara was never offered to Meghan in the first place despite her wanting to wear it, because it was always meant for Eugenie.

How is that crass? Get over yourself!

I completely agree. Why wouldn't she wear white (seeing as this was clearly what she wanted)?

  1. Expecting any woman to publicly announce her (lack of) "virginity" or previous relationship history such as marriage/divorce via her wedding gown or any other attire is a rather sexist and outdated notion IMO...
  1. White bridal gowns (and their supposed symbolism) are a comparatively modern concept anyway.

Meghan makes her own clothes
😂😂😂

Maireas · 07/01/2023 17:49

Well, I'm impressed with Angela Kelly.
A man that could take out 25 Taliban reduced to getting the shivers by a single look from that woman. Kudos.

diddl · 07/01/2023 17:50

Although I do think the tiara she wore was more beautiful and had a more contemporary edge than the Spencer tiara so I can see that.

It could have been as simple as the one that she chose suited her better.

That said, I'm sure HMQ wouldn't have taken offence if they explained that they had already been offered Spencer tiara & were using that!

I wonder if it was offered to Kate?

I'm sure the Spencers would have loved to have seen one of Diana's son's brides wear it!

Marrying in a long white dress and a veil is crass when you are divorced and your ex-husband is still alive.

The harlot!!

Maireas · 07/01/2023 17:54

I thought Meghan looked absolutely stunning, and the tiara was beautiful 😍.
I wonder why she chose it over the Spencer one, did Harry say why?

elessar · 07/01/2023 17:55

The story as Harry tells it makes no sense! He's clearly missed out a lot of context and detail on their own behaviour as the way he tells it you'd think AK was just completely blanking them both and then was furiously angry and giving him a death stare for no reason at all.

Aside from anything else, it would be hugely unprofessional of her and disrespectful to her employer (the Queen) to refuse to comply with her wishes the way Harry tells it. It's just not plausible.

Meghan makes her own clothes
😂😂😂

Out of old curtains probably, Maria Von Trapp style.

She wanted to wear one of the tiaras that is only reversed for the females within the Royal family. She could not wear it because she was marrying into it hence why Eugene wore it. Harry is that dim he's not painting a good picture of himself and meghan and if anything just confirming what the media has been saying about them and meghans diva behaviour.

But then surely that tiara wasn't offered to her to wear?

Would the same apply to the Spencer tiara?

Bananarama21 · 07/01/2023 18:07

I get the impression she saw it and wanted it regardless if she was allowed to or not. There was lacks of Harry going mental on the run up to the wedding saying what meghan wants meghan gets. It does seem to aline with what Harry's now saying. I believe she's been a very difficult character, bullied staff.

Ah so there are some tiaras you can only wear if you are royal?
And some anyone can wear? 😁

Didn't Fergie wear flowers on the way to the church and then a tiara on the way out as she was now royal?

I remember thinking Fergie looked beautiful at her wedding.

Maireas · 07/01/2023 18:13

No such rule.
The tiaras owned by the Queen were loaned at her discretion. It sounds as if she selected 5 that she thought would suit Meghan.
If one of them was the Aquamarine, that's a beauty and often worn by the late Queen.
Some seem to be on permanent loan eg Kate wears the Cambridge Lover's Knot and the Lotus.

Bananarama21 · 07/01/2023 18:15

That's what was reported there's certain jewels that only members of the royal family born into the family can wear from the queen's collection, some of the tiaras being part of the collection.

Reported by whom?
The Queen loaned jewellery - for obvious reasons that would be to people in the family, or marrying them. I doubt she would have refused a particular tiara request from either Kate or Meghan for their wedding day.

Gunpowder · 07/01/2023 18:19

I imagine the Megan ‘makes her own clothes’ is a mistranslation from the Spanish and meant she styled/sourced them herself (it must have been a shock not being allowed to borrow samples or accept gifts anymore.) I don’t reckon she was running them up on the singer.

How many tiaras does the queen have?

A lot, c50 if not more.

Yes that's what I've just read-that she was given 5 to chose form having already been offered the Spencer tiara.

So how could she "not have been allowed" to wear the one she wanted?

That's (im) a different connotation to not being offered one you would have liked.

I've also read that the Spencer tiara is only worn by those born into the family?

Maireas · 07/01/2023 18:21

I think you're right, @Gunpowder .
Some of these stories are so strange, they must be mistranslations!

diddl · 07/01/2023 18:22

Tiara "under" the flowers I think.

How many tiaras does the queen have?

The Queen had about 17 that we knew of. Camilla was given three available to get to use as Duchess of Cornwall that came from the Queen’s Mother’s stash (plus she had a one from her own family she could use). Anne has four available to her, Kate currently has three, Sophie also three. Fergie had one. There are very likely more in the vaults that we don’t know of - some of Princess Margaret’s collection may have come back, for example. Eugenie’s wedding tiara had never been seen in public before she wore it and Queen Mary, the Queen’s grandmother, had an absolutely massive collection (she lived in a time where she wore a tiara and a formal gown to dinner every night, even apparently when it just her and her husband dining!).

Anyway, I found this story a bit odd. The story says that Harry’s aunts, Earl Spencer’s sisters offered him the use of the Spencer tiara. But it’s their brother, Earl Spencer, who actually owns it. And it’s a Spencer tiara, worn by women in the Spencer family. Hence Diana Spencer wore it for her wedding - some thing the Queen was perfectly happy with.

So it seems odd that it would have been offered to Meghan (not a Spencer) when it’s not like she’d be lacking in options. And even if she had, why would the Queen have begged her to wear one of her own ones? And if she had gone to all the trouble to have her veil match the tiara, why would she have changed her mind?

Maireas · 07/01/2023 18:24

@diddl - the Spencer tiara can be worn by whoever the family choose to loan it to, but really it would be brides who were Spencers or marrying in. It's owned by Charles Spencer, but I'm sure that Meghan could have worn it had she wished.

I think this is showing how, even with extensive tapping and therapy, Harry still has a Kings'-Road-bloke's-eye view of things like lip gloss, hormones, and frocks.

Excellent observation.
