Tiara-gate unveiled (shameless pun)

The fact that meghan said, and Harry believed, she had spent “hours and hours” with dressmakers getting the original scalloped tiara to match the scallop veil edge shows, IMO, one of two things:

  1. meghan is a wild exaggerator and Harry is stupid. I had a high end dress custom made for my wedding. For this type of thing she would just need to hand over to the extremely experienced professionals. Meghan would have no input to this.
  2. meghan is an enormous control freak who stood over them for hours to make sure it was perfect

Harry trying to paint this unbelievably first world issue as arduous is yet another example of how ludicrously out of touch with reality she is. Poor Meghan, she went with another diamond tiara and hours of her time were wasted. I mean she had to take off time from her busy schedule of borrowing lipglosses and battling Willy’s finger to boss dressmakers around.

there is also an amusing quote somewhere about how Harry reassured Charles Meghan would not be a large cost addition for him as she “makes her own clothes”. Did she borrow her entire character from Snow White? Seal singing, dress making?

Remember the tale about Marie Antoinette and the Diamond necklace? Well, this might just be the tiara that brings down the British Monarchy.

I doubt that some daft stories like this will bring down the monarchy!
I never thought I'd feel sympathy for Charles and William, but here we are.

That's exactly what Marie Antoinette said about the diamond necklace before Madame Guillotine chopped of her head.

Maireas · 08/01/2023 10:36

I think it's a bit of a reach.
Meghan's choice of tiara or otherwise is unlikely to end up with Camilla publicly executed in Whitehall because she's at the apex of a despotic monarchy, challenged by the Jacobins and the Girondins, but who knows.

MeghanThyStallion · 08/01/2023 10:45

I thought Meghan looked beautiful on her wedding day.

Who knows WRT tiara-gate? I had a look at the Garrard website in search of tiaras, and quite fancy this one, but at £220000 it'll have to wait until I've paid off the mortgage in 24 years time.

Of course I joke about the beheading part. But Meghan does strike me as being vindictive enough to destroy a person who dares prevents her from getting her own way.

Tiara/coronation question!

Do you think all the aristos will have to wear the family tiaras at the coronation? Or do you think they will relax the dress code because of optics.

if Meghan does go and does wear a tiara….which one will it be??!!!!!

She would be in the best position to borrow anything she wanted from Garrad, Boucheron etc! Just imagine rocking up with a fancier tiara than Kate!

Reading about Eugenie made me google her wedding day. She’s a stunning bride. My favourite out of all the royal weddings, love her dress.

Yes, lovely dress. The low back was intentional to show the scar Eugenie has from an operation to correct scoliosis, which I thought was quite a moving choice. I agree Beatrice's dress was also a good choice.

Harrysfrostbittentodger · 08/01/2023 11:09

I didn’t like Meghan’s wedding dress. It looked too baggy and ill fitting around the waist and bust. I’m also not a fan of the modern, clean line style that Meghan is clearly a fan of. The veil was beautiful though, and the tiara went well with the aesthetic of the dress (although not the intricacy of the veil).

However, I loved the halter neck reception dress. Even though it’s not my style, it looked really chic and modern and the aquamarine ring really brought the whole look together.

Incidentally, I loved Kate’s wedding dress as I’m a fan of the fitted, nipped at the waist silhouette, v necks and lots of lace. But I didn’t like her reception dress, especially that weird fuzzy bolero/stole she wore over it. It was very of the time and looks incredibly dated looking back at it.

I think it'll be coronets rather than tiaras.

Princessglittery · 08/01/2023 11:23

I loved Catherine’s wedding dress, it reminded me of Julie Andrew’s dress in the sound of music which I have adored for decades.

@KnickerlessParsons

isn’t it both for the women?

Orangefir · 08/01/2023 11:38

Princess Margaret wore the cartier halo to the coronation, she then pops on a coronet. Interestingly, she is seen as wearing the queen Mary diamond bandeau in The Crown depiction of the coronation. Both the tiaras Kate and Megan wore at their weddings

Think you are right - there are photos of Princess Margaret at the Queen's coronation. On arrival she looks to be wearing the Cartier Scroll/Halo tiara (Kate's wedding one), then the coronet is added during the ceremony

i0.wp.com/www.thecourtjeweller.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/2022-0808-margaret05.jpg?w=1200&ssl=1 in this image you can make out she's wearing both

Orangefir · 08/01/2023 11:45

Yes, can see it now from the picture.

I have a feeling Kate will wear the Cambridge knot but Im hoping the collection is opened up to her and we see her in something pretty spectacular

themessygarden · 08/01/2023 11:48

I think Meghan choice of tiara was perfect, certainly more suited than the Spencer one.

Florissant · 08/01/2023 11:59

Although I love tiaras and could spend hours looking at photographs of them, the Spencer tiara is one of the few I dislike.

Orangefir · 08/01/2023 12:10

Agree, the Spencer looks a bit Claire’s accessories to me

some of the tiaras held by the euro royals are spectacular!

Geometricfreeform · 08/01/2023 12:15

Re the fit of Megan’s wedding dress:

I have a friend who owns a couple of bridal boutiques and I asked her just after the wedding what she thought of the fit. She told me it had to be like that to accommodate a bullet/stabproof vest underneath.

Obviously I have no idea if that’s true but it would be a plausible explanation for the baggy fit.

I've just googled Eugenie's reception gown.

it's absolutely gorgeous imo. Probably my favourite of the royal reception looks.

@CPL593H
geometrically arranged seals... 😃

the horns of highland cows could serve as inspiration, I agree. 😂

Why didn't that @ work...?🤔oh well....

diddl · 08/01/2023 12:26

I like the Spencer tiara-also the Honeysuckle Spencer tiara.

One of my favourites is the Strathmore Rose tiara.

WinnieFosterReads · 08/01/2023 12:30

The McCartney dress was stunning. Meghan looked amazing in it!
I think Stella can be a bit inconsistent as a designer but Meghan's evening gown almost changed my mind about her.

diddl · 08/01/2023 12:32

I've just googled Eugenie's reception gown.

I quite liked the dress but thought that it had an odd outline.

The colour was fabulous on her though & she looked so happy that she glowed.
