The royal family

Meghan 'offended' for telling Kate she had 'baby brain'

Well, the Daily Fail have got their hands on a Spanish copy of the ''memoir'', so there is going to be shrapnel flying about from now until kingdom come.

One of these ''revelations'' is that Meghan made a joke about Kate having ''baby brain hormones'' a month after having Louis, which upset Kate, which in turn then upset Meghan.

Can you imagine the Oprah-style feeding frenzy had this been reversed - Kate telling Meghan that she had baby brain and hormones, which would have perfectly tapped into the villainous ice queen depiction that H&M are flogging right now?

Harry is soap operatising the royal family in the most sensational and tabloid dripfeed way possible (calling his brother his 'archnemesis'.

He is shockingly narcissistic, if he thinks this is not also going to also blow up on him and Meghan. The hypocrisy and whole thing is a shit show.

I'm really starting to feel for the poor ghost writer. Imagine how much of this he had to sit through and didn't put in the final book...

He's a zillionaire over this and at no personal cost. Don't worry.

I'm loving Harry's jibe at his brothers hair loss

He said that his brother's baldness was 'alarming' and 'advanced than mine' and said his resemblance their their mother had 'faded'.

Lol!!!!!!! This is all comedy gold. And the whole Willy Harold things, I mean really? It's like a slapstick comedy version of The Crown. Reading the excerpts should lighten up this gloomy, rainy post Christmas month.

This is a really telling paragraph, shows how shallow and narcissistic Harold is, that he is using his hair ( surgically enhanced) as one upmanship. This book is a parody surely and H&M have been duped. Fools.

PeekAtYou · 05/01/2023 14:56

There is no way that M would have accepted the reverse.

Telling a new mum that she has baby brain is like telling someone acting hormonally that they must be on their period- fine for the person in question to say it about themselves but saying it about someone else is always risky. Saying it to your SIL who you think doesn't like you is as not a great move- fine if you get on well so can "banter" but things were clearly strained.

His name isn't Harold.

You are promoting someone else's opinion on a translation of a sentence out of context as if it were fact.

Not sure this places you well on the "shalllow" stakes.

PinkTonic · 05/01/2023 14:58

It’s just laying bare how they misrepresent things. If they really believe their version they are seriously deluded. To go on OW with a straight face and say no, Kate made me cry when she knew she started it by saying such an outrageously rude and sexist thing is mind boggling. And he’s put it in his book! WTF!!

FetlocksBlowingInTheWind · 05/01/2023 14:59

coolmum123 · 05/01/2023 13:37

I thought M is a feminist? Bit rude to put down another woman if thats the platform you pitch yourself on no?

Yes! Not just a feminist but you'd think she would be keen to make Kate her close ally seeing as they are going through the same bloody ordeal day in day out.

Motelschmotel · 05/01/2023 14:59

I wonder if Harry was there, in the dress fitting room, and heard the "baby brain" interchange for himself. Or whether he is telling a story he heard from Meghan. Latter seems more likely. In which case....what on earth was he thinking putting it in print?! Is he really that dim??

If he was there and heard it, or even if he just heard it afterwards, he has a nerve for going off at William when he said Meghan was rude and abrasive - she clearly was rude on occasion! Harry’s just given us an example of this himself in his book…

Looking back at what Meghan said on Oprah on this is illuminating, given I presume we have to take Harry’s account as the closest to the truth we have yet had. Meghan denied she had made Kate cry and said:

The reverse happened…it made me cry and it really hurt my feelings. It was a really hard week of the wedding and she was upset about something but she owned it and she apologised

So, the “something” that Kate was upset about was actually Meghan being rude to her. And when Kate called her on that, Meghan declared her feelings were hurt and she cried. And then told the world via Oprah that it was Kate who was the baddie here (and that the Palace were lying in not stopping the press stories that Meghan had made Kate cry, nonetheless!).

i wonder if they have any idea how bad this explanation makes Meghan look?

Not only that, but by Meghan's own account Kate then sent her flowers to try and smooth things over. One of them isn't coming out of this debacle looking great, and it's not the POW.

Kinnorafron · 05/01/2023 15:06

I want to give OP special credit for the phrase "soap operatising" - brilliant.

wordler · 05/01/2023 15:06

At the time the original "Meghan made Kate cry" story came out in the press I assumed that the truth was they had a disagreement over something relatively small that was blown up because on one side you had Meghan who was in the middle of preparing for a huge public wedding, and Kate who was either ready to give birth or days post-partum, plus had a brother who was battling suicidal thoughts and had been going to family therapy with him during the past year to help him get better. I can imagine it would be very easy to get over-emotional in both those cases.

But it's annoying how much Meghan and Harry seem desperate to make the whole thing Kate's fault.

LaffTaff · 05/01/2023 15:07

Perhaps an unpopular opinion however I disliked Diana; in fact I thought she was pretty awful! Harry seems to have the same contempt his Mum did for the royals.

MrsMiddleMother · 05/01/2023 15:10

How is saying someone has baby brain awful? Classic MN and kate offended at everything once again 😂

Backfor2022 · 05/01/2023 15:12

I wonder if William called Meghan rude and abrasive, and attacked Harry, after Meghan’s comment to Kate.
I also find it interesting that Harry’s first instinct was to call his therapist, but didn’t think to do that when Meghan was suicidal.

Because it depends on the context in which it is said. It's like a man telling a woman she must be on her period because she's upset about something.

In that context, it's an attempt to undermine and invalidate someone's comment, or opinion or complaint.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 05/01/2023 15:13

It’s very odd that he’s put this in when it doesn’t paint Meghan in a great light.

If she posted on MN about him - how unprepared she was about his family (the curtsying thing being a prime example and the titles issue), and then him retelling stories that painted her in a not positive light she’d be told very clearly that she had a massive DH problem.

Depends on the context doesn't it? Forgetting your keys maybe fine, being told your opinion or feelings are ridiculous because of 'baby brain' not so nice.

It's so rude.

It's implying that their feelings aren't valid because they are a woman (only women give birth therefore only women have post natal hormones)

It's fine for a woman to joke at herself about baby brain. It could even be borderline ok for your best friend to say it to you.

It's not ok at all for someone you're not close with to say it.

Especially as Megan wasn't a mother at that time. It's just full of sexism.

Squabbledee · 05/01/2023 14:51

I'm gobsmacked that this book seems to be a million times worse than I could ever have imagined it to be. How will M&H move forward from this? Who will want to get involved with them? It's like a fireworks show of shite.

Right now, they are exciting and explosive because it's so hilariously shocking, but this is not how you build a long-term brand.

People aren't going to keep dipping into their pockets for this ironically tabloid style of scandalous exclusives and tedious dripfeed.

There is deafening silence from prestigious brands (i.e. not content creators like Netflix), Hollywood A-listers and all of H&M's supposed 'friends in high places'.

No one in the higher echelons is going to back them now - because they've seen what lengths H&M will go to to try to destroy reputations.

This is a very strange path to try to beat to the white house (Meghan), or back into the prestige and wealth and affection of your family (Harry)!

I guess he had to put something in the book about bridesmaid tightsgate, so I'd presume this is the version of the truth that looks least worse for them.

@BradfordGirl is right this is exactly the sort of normal aibu we get on here about insensitive SILs and so really a non story.

The story is that we're being told about it in a public war. But did W & K leak it first?? We don't know.

Also so true that MM could have done podcast episodes on how women are casually denigrated by reference to their hormonal states, or for being single mothers with multiple previous partners.

But instead her podcast focused on women like her: attacked for being so marvellous.

ReneBumsWombats · 05/01/2023 15:18

Why didn't they just start a film/TV production company or a mother/baby clothes and goods line with Meghan in the adverts? That was what I thought they'd do.

Ohnonevermind · 05/01/2023 15:18

I do remember a fervent Meghan supporter declaring she was going to hang out on the feminist boards, i wonder how feminists take to women calling other women ‘baby brained’ and then crying when they’re pulled up on it

I would love to see your take on this, had it been the other way round.

I suspect it would be something like: ''Look how racist and sexist the royal family is to Meghan, accusing her of being dimwitted and hormonal all over the place just because she's recently become a mother. BURN THEM''. Something like that!

Why are people more outraged at this than the William confrontation?

Why does anyone believe this happened, when they don't believe that incident?

rarge · 05/01/2023 15:20

I would love to see your take on this, had it been the other way round.

I don't think many people would care, most people aren't 'fans' of Meghan in the same way people are of Kate etc
