The royal family

To think Prince George is never going to find a life partner?

Who on earth would marry into the Royal Family, at this point?

What sort of parent would send their child to the slaughter-house?

The monarchy could well end up crumbling because no-one will be willing to marry into it - due not only to unacceptable levels of press intrusion, but also social media (and God even knows what that’s going to look like by the time George (and his siblings) come of age).

If anything, Meghan married down.

😂😂😂 OK.

He's a little boy. Leave him alone

@MNHQ - if you want to change the thread title to [heirs to the throne] or some such, that’s fine by me (thanks to the MNer who suggested this to me!).

It’s a legitimate discussion, and I assume the reason the thread hasn’t been deleted thus far is because MN have looked behind the scenes and know that I’m a very long-time (regularly name-changing) poster, with a pretty much impeccable posting history…. 🤷🏻‍♀️

You really don't need to apologise. You haven't done anything wrong. The royal fans want to shut down discussion and certainly any criticism of the institution, and they will do that even if it means digingenuously implying others are some kind of pervert. It's extreme but it is best recognised for what it is, rather than capitulating to their wants.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 22/12/2022 10:51

Nobody wants to discuss the potential future sex-life of a child - although I'm not convinced it's especially inappropriate or unusual to generally acknowledge that a child may want to marry and have their own children when they're grown up.

The thing with the the royal machine, though, is that things are planned decades and even centuries in advance - and future circumstances do have to be taken into account in very good time. Things are put in place very far ahead and the assumed to be settled.

Nobody complained about the change to the Primogeniture rules which were driven by the possibility that William & Kate might have more than one child and that the theoretical first child might be a girl who might be followed by a theoretical brother.

I don't think we can just say that this (maybe still unborn) person is going to rule over you all, but you're not allowed to ask any questions about them or consider the wider circumstances of their position in the monarchy and royal family. Just do and accept whatever we tell you and know your place, peasants! If questions are not asked, that's often taken as tacit approval (not that we have a choice anyway with the monarchy, short of national revolution); and then, if people complain about it later, they're told that they're much too late and should have raised their objections at the time.

Why are some people on MN obsessed with calling British people peasants? I mean if you think you're a peasant then by all means label yourself as much but don't label me like that. It's rude.

From what I can see nobody has criticised the insititituon they just feel uncomfortable about the future partners of an actual child being discussed on here. It shouldn’t be tolerated. Imagine someone discussing your kids and who they’ll take to bed when they’re older

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 22/12/2022 12:23

Also @NowDoYouBelieveMe not all of us see ourselves as peasants. Sorry that you do!

What, like the baby grows on sale that state "mummy's little heart breaker" on them? Or when people joke that pre school kid have "boyfriends" or "girlfriends"? Or how some best friends joke about their kids getting married to each other when they grow up? Or people agreeing that if their kids grow up gay, they'll support them?

Your preciousness is misplaced here.

You've spectacularly missed the point here, or perhaps you're being obtuse.

We don't think of ourselves as peasants - the upper classes including the royals think of us as peasants and treat us accordingly. It's said sardonally, to highlight how they look down on us

Never heard of hyperbole?!

Fair enough, then, choose for yourself the way you think we are viewed by people who automatically nominate their own children as your next kings and queens, then sign off laws by which you must abide, and flit between palaces in private helicopters, live in extreme opulence and tell you that you need to curtail your life for the sake of the environment. PW even sponsors a prize for people to come up with new ideas but shows no intention of living far more modestly and sustainably himself.

Not an anti-royal rant; but I somehow get the impression that they don't quite consider the likes of you and I their equals in any way whatsoever.

Indeed, how could the upper classes think of the rest of us as their equals? If they did that, the whole system would be completely unjustifiable. As it stands, their blue blood is what allows them to live in castles and mansions using tax payer (our) money to maintain them (see the RF, Rees Mogg etc) while other humans get hosed down by the king's police for trying to find shelter in a doorway or vilified in national media for claiming benefits.

No, it was a mini-rant, but I meant I wasn't specifically looking to start a 'should we scrap the monarchy' debate, which has been done to death countless times.

I'm at peace with the fact that we have a monarchy, like it or not; but I'm not going to fawn over what beautiful, delightful people they are and so very much more inherently superior than I could ever be. I do reserve my right (FWIW) to criticise their rank hypocrisy and their attitudes to the ordinary (is that word acceptable?) folk in the country.

I have met people from all different classes and no one has ever treated me as a peasant. I don't feel looked down on at all. I think this is more about you and your insecurities than about the upper classes. Have a bit of confidence in yourself and you'll stop feeling so angry at the world. As Marie Barone said, you're going to give yourself a tummyache.

Is Rees Mogg a blue blood? I thought his dad was a journalist and his mum a secretary?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 22/12/2022 13:47

Exactly. The very idea that a baby who has just been born (or may not yet even have been conceived) is the only possible person to rule over us, in favour of the potentially millions of wise, experienced and highly-respected grown adults who never get the faintest whiff of a chance.

People who always say "Just imagine if we ended up with President Boris or Blair!" spectacularly miss the whole point of democratic choice. Yes, those two men fell out of favour spectacularly and, consequently, they are now no longer in power, even though they are still very much alive. A king or queen could turn into the worst tyrant ever, but we would still not be able to get rid of them, short of assassinating them.

Blossomtoes · 22/12/2022 13:50

Eleanor Roosevelt’s words are very wise. Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 22/12/2022 13:50

It tends to go fine with you, as long as you accept your lot in life. If you tried to elevate yourself to their assumed level and threatened their power or influence, I think you'd quickly find them rather less affable.

She was right when it comes to your own perception of your own value; but it still doesn't affect the status quo of how they view you.

Have a go at democratically campaigning to be made Queen once KC reaches his natural end and see how that goes for you.

Yes I tend the think that the real royal fans hate themselves a bit. I mean, how else can you be comfortable fawning over a moral degenerate who just happened to come out of the right vagina, and actually look to them as your rightful master? I feel a bit sorry for them really, must be quite a self degrading position to put yourself in.
