The royal family

Has Jeremy Clarkson just proved Harry and Meghan right?

On the radio it was discussing how Harry and Meghan said on Netflix that they got very upset in the past when newspapers would write horrible articles and the Royal Family institute would never have their backs and condone the articles in public.
so after the disgusting article that Jeremy wrote albeit his lame apology on Twitter, there has been no news as far as I am aware of the Royal Family saying violence written about Meghan etc is wrong.
so that being said haven’t they done what Meghan and Harry were moaning about that the Royal family never had their backs?

He is a grotesque, hideous pussball and always was. But I suppose there is a segment of society which shares his Jurassic view of women and people of colour.

The whole episode just points up how nonsensical monarchy is anyway.

Yes it does. I think the fact Jeremy Clarkson and Piers Morgan at a reception at the palace by the queen consort is very telling.

I wouldn’t have someone in the house who spoke of my relatives in the way.

What Clarkson did was abhorrent but they weren't at a function at the palace, in fact they weren't invited anywhere by the palace. The Queen attended a function where Clarkson and Morgan were present. To suggest this is on Camilla is ridiculous.

MamaFirst · 19/12/2022 20:07

I support M & H and can't understand all the hate they are getting about voicing their lived experience. I don't believe for a minute that most people also wouldn't want to defend themselves and contradict all the lies said about them if the situation were personal.

With that being said though, I don't see the relevance of the RF making comment on this article about Meghan? Why would they at this point? The RF have never made a point of commenting on every hateful remarks said about any one of them as a whole. It would be bizarre if they came out and defended her now that they're not even working royals and are basically estranged.

I didn't read the full article, only the quotations of his view of her that are circulating - so maybe I missed something?

LovelyRachel · 19/12/2022 20:09

People in my friendship group weren't too fussed about MM nor her Netflix show.

However the article by JC has absolutely disgusted many of my friends, family and colleagues. Male and female.

Everyone says the same "just shows that MM and Harry were right all along"

Sums me up not watched the entire Netflix show but heard about what my title said and agree with your friends.

All the the negative opinions on M@H kind of prove their point about the press working against them surely. Because no one commenting actually knows them, or has even met them. Everyone has developed an opinion based on what they have read. And Jeremy Clarkson’s comments are really awful.

Logginglogger · 19/12/2022 20:20

Honestly the royal family can’t be commenting on every shitty article, it would be a full time job for all of them. It’s ludicrous to suggest they should . Harry and Meghan aren’t children. And it’s not because of rhe royal family it was written, it is not their fault.

its Jeremy Clarkson fault . He wrote something horrific . I’m shocked it was published. I don’t believe harry and Meghan behave well at all, and am disgusted by their behaviour, but Jeremy was abusive and offensive and every single decent person knows it.

BCxx · 19/12/2022 20:20

He said years ago when a question came up on who wants to be a millionaire that he liked the meat from one of those barbaric set ups, like foie gras and was boasting about it. How has it taken him making this comment for people to realise what a plonker he is? Vile man 🤦🏻‍♀️

Trinidading3 · 19/12/2022 20:21

Jeremy Clarkson is a nasty racist, no if buts about it.....how can a human being sit down and firstly think this shit, then put pen to paper and write it down and think it's ok to ask the editorial to approve it for print!! Why did the editorial head person send it to print? Sack them all, get rid of the scum!! The only way these people feel it is if they are sacked and shamed and the cash stops flowing.....

WomanhoodIsABirthright · 19/12/2022 20:30

SardineSarnie · 19/12/2022 19:11

How is issuing a statement condemning (even mildly) Clarkson's statement a "perk"? They aren't working Royals but they are family members and the PR machine keeps trumpeting Camilla's work on VAWG. It's not a perk to expect some level of public support from your family against this vile behaviour, it's basic decency.

😂😂😂 After they way they've behaved? They've made their bed and shown what they think of 'family'.

It's absolutely right that they fend for themselves. If they'ved stayed as working royals they'd get all that comes with that.

They decided to tell their family and Britain to go fuck themselves, so, reap what you sow comes to mind.

If they actually fucked off to this quiet life they keep claiming they want, instead of trying to play the media, they wouldn't get bad press.

GlitterSquid · 19/12/2022 20:30

Not a H&M fan AT ALL, but even I concede that what he wrote was reprehensible. Like the ramblings of a drunken old misogynist who needs his nurse to put him back to bed.

EmmaAgain22 · 19/12/2022 20:36

Womanhood "After they way they've behaved? They've made their bed and shown what they think of 'family'."

what have they said or done that would make you say this?

EmmaAgain22 · 19/12/2022 20:38

logging "I don’t believe harry and Meghan behave well at all, and am disgusted by their behaviour,"

what have they done that you are so disgusted by?

DownNative · 19/12/2022 20:38

SummerSazz · 19/12/2022 18:39

And that is the point that H&M are trying to make. Even if it's always been that way, how is it right that the press get away with what they do.....

It's up to Harry and Meghan to sue Clarkson and his publisher to send a message about it, you know.

Since they have themselves lied about the RF and are no longer working Royals, they are not entitled to the RF PR machine.

Novella4 · 19/12/2022 20:41

The lunch was described as 'camillas lunch '
Hosted by the ex head of Fortnums but it seems it was held in her honour .
We can only assume she had some say in the guest list.
If she didn't have any say, and we take that with a huge pinch of salt, why hasn't she or the palace spoken out ? Camilla says she champions the protection of women against male violence . There has been international revulsion to the imagery in the column . This is her daughter in law !
Silence .

There is no doubt that the increasingly vile attacks on Meghan help the palace. Especially as theses attacks increasingly put Meghan against Kate . Throw the two non 'royal'women against each other to distract from whatever William or Charles need hidden
Or to attempt to bolster the popularity of the royals by whipping up hatred against Meghan

Hatespeak .
Bloody dystopian

Mynameiselvispresley · 19/12/2022 20:44

@Novella4 I agree with you entirely.

Coxspurplepippin · 19/12/2022 20:54

It's been described as 'camilla's lunch' by those who want to have a go at the royal family. There is nothing to suggest it was 'Camilla's lunch ' at all.

Are you blaming Camilla for Jeremy Clarkson's drivel? I seriously hope not.

Georgeskitchen · 19/12/2022 18:37

The Royal family never respond to the vitriol some members have endured from the press. Why would they change that?

I agree with this as once they start, when do they stop?! They'd be forever condemning news articles and then would be criticised for moaning about the press.

I think never explain, never complain is the best way - grey rock the press.

Mynameiselvispresley · 19/12/2022 21:03

@Coxspurplepippin that’s quite the extrapolation you’ve made. My point is I wouldn’t keep company with someone like that and I would denounce them for misogyny and racism.

You can have you own views and do as you wish.

FirstFallopians · 19/12/2022 21:05

H&M are the human-embodiment of that feeling when you put a wash on and then find a random dirty sock on the ground 0.3 seconds after hitting the start button. Mildly annoying but they won’t ruin anyone’s day.

Clarkson has MASSIVELY proved H&M’s point. His comments went beyond a bit—off-colour, they were disgusting and dripping with misogyny.

I can’t imagine what it would like to be Megan and read something like that.

It also embarrasses me as an individual who consumes British media- I want to comment on every international report of this situation with a disclaimer saying we’re not all racist dickheads.

PatriciaPattersonGimlin · 19/12/2022 21:07

JC has always been an utterly repellent personality. It's staggering that he is as famous as he is. It's a national shame that he gets as much airtime as he does and has done in the past. He is a talentless moron. There has been many many occasions when his behaviour has been absolutely disgusting and yet here he is, over and over, getting paid to trot out his ghastliness. Get him gone FFS!

The Royal family never respond to the vitriol some members have endured from the press. Why would they change that?

That's not true.

I wish people would stop claiming the RF "never explain, never complain", because its complete bollocks.

They have released official statements condemning the press.
The Senior RF have all sued tabloid newspapers at one time or another.
The Queen sued both The Sun and The Mirror. Twice!

Off the top of my head:
▪︎ Sophie (when she wasn't a working royal) got caught in a fake Sheikh scandal.
Buck Palace released an official statement saying the story was riddled with inaccuracies and fictions. And was offensive.

▪︎ When Kate was Williams girlfriend. Kensington Palace released an official statement condemning the press harassment and it needs to stop. The intrusion was unbearable.

▪︎ A few years ago Kensington Palace, on behalf of W &K, issued a statement to the press condeming the dangerous tactics paparazzi have been using to take pictures of thier children. They want thir children to be free of harrasment and surveillance
(btw, the statement lists some examples of disturbing tactics the paps have used just to get a photo of the children)

I don't have any problem with the palaces making official statements to respond to the vitriol the RF have endured from the press.
And I don't have a problem with suing the tabloid press
In fact I applaud them for it.

But let's not pretend they keep silent. They don't.
