The royal family

Has Jeremy Clarkson just proved Harry and Meghan right?

On the radio it was discussing how Harry and Meghan said on Netflix that they got very upset in the past when newspapers would write horrible articles and the Royal Family institute would never have their backs and condone the articles in public.
so after the disgusting article that Jeremy wrote albeit his lame apology on Twitter, there has been no news as far as I am aware of the Royal Family saying violence written about Meghan etc is wrong.
so that being said haven’t they done what Meghan and Harry were moaning about that the Royal family never had their backs?

.

Has Jeremy Clarkson just proved Harry and Meghan right?
Gilead · 19/12/2022 19:05

I am a republican, I give not a flying fuck about the royals. Clarkson however should be in court for hate speech. His piece was abominable, as is he.

Its the sun so to prevent anyone upping their click data here's a screenshot.

The Royal family never respond to the vitriol some members have endured from the press. Why would they change that?

Because they should realise by now that's inciting hatred to say things like that, and that means great risk.

Of course a dignified silence is often the best way. This is not one of those times.

TooBigForMyBoots · 19/12/2022 19:09

Proof, if it was needed, of the hateful British media they complained about. That his disgusting, misogynist rant was published demonstrates that nothing is off limits for our press as far as MM is concerned.Xmas Hmm

They aren't working royals, they aren't part of the firm, despite still being allowed to keep titles, so they can't expect to benefit from the Royal Family machine.

Though that's been their whole problem all along. They've expected to get all the perks, without the work.

How is issuing a statement condemning (even mildly) Clarkson's statement a "perk"? They aren't working Royals but they are family members and the PR machine keeps trumpeting Camilla's work on VAWG. It's not a perk to expect some level of public support from your family against this vile behaviour, it's basic decency.

itispersonal · 19/12/2022 19:11

It is horrible from Clarkson but no I don't think the RF need to respond to such rubbish! If H&m have a problem about what is written about them, they need to speak up.

Threadkillacilla · 19/12/2022 19:12

People have already egged the king. This wankstain suggesting MM needs shit throwing at her won't need a great leap to make happen.

pinneddownbytabbies · 19/12/2022 19:18

'Everyone who's my age thinks the same way'

Speaking as someone very nearly his age, no we most certainly don't. Perhaps it is just the company he keeps.

Dobbyatemysocks · 19/12/2022 19:21

The next sentence states "Everyone who's my age thinks the same".

DP is the same age and he doesn't think the same way - in fact, DP thinks JC's comments are disgusting and dangerous.

Palomabalom · 19/12/2022 19:21

The man is an embarrassment to his peers, his family and to men in general. What a total waste of space he is. Needs to be cancelled and not given the privilege or opportunity of any further air time

spanieleyes · 19/12/2022 19:23

@SardineSarnie
It's also basic decency not to trash your family, surely it works both ways?

Octo5 · 19/12/2022 19:24

I think this is the best thing that could have happened for M&H (even though it’s awful).

As it completely proves their point and I think they’ll get a lot more supporters after this.

doubleshotcappuccino · 19/12/2022 19:29

The silence is deafening . They might not be working royals but this is the king's son and his wife. Where is the decency is saying nothing. This is exactly what they said happened. Would anyone write this about Kate and keep their day job ...

TizerorFizz · 19/12/2022 19:39

Of course they would. They have all
had detractors.

Meghan and Harry are mildly annoying but it's been clear for a long while that there is an active campaign against Meghan. As a mixed race woman I've been very unsettled by the difference in treatment when Meghan eats an avocado or touched her bump to Kate. I'm really not that interested in either of them these days but this article was beyond vile.

It's a rallying cry to all the racists and misogynists that 'it's okay lads, we can all say what we like now Jeremy has been published by a national newspaper'. It's not even the stripped naked and shit throwing that frightened me. It was bit bit about how much he hates a women he's never met ,more than a mass murderer....

Yes listening to James o Brian and you see the differences between articles of Meghan and Kate it’s bonkers it’s like she’s now the big bad villain.

One issue to consider is that silencing people often has the opposite effect. They gain underground support and hatred festers. Clarkson is beloved of a type of middle aged man. The geezer type who is a lad. He’s cultivated this image. He’s given space in papers because he sells them. Maybe we should know what people think? He’s not alone.

leli · 19/12/2022 19:41

Totally agree!

aSofaNearYou · 19/12/2022 19:43

I'm not sure I would expect the royal family themselves to say anything in the circumstances but he (and the rest of the press) are certainly proving their point about the way they've handled things!

Mynameiselvispresley · 19/12/2022 19:44

Yes it does. I think the fact Jeremy Clarkson and Piers Morgan at a reception at the palace by the queen consort is very telling.

I wouldn’t have someone in the house who spoke of my relatives in the way.

IncessantNameChanger · 19/12/2022 19:50

I agree, it's mind boggling. I do think M&H are whineing entitled etc but actually now I think if was them, I'd be mentally fucked up by this kind if repulsive vitriol. Who the hell thinks this ok? She is a mum to young kids for a start. Who really wants to see a mum subjected this shite on the most basic of levels? I think on balance I'm beginning to side with them.

She is the mum of the Kings GC. He is the most powerful man in England. Why can't shut this deranged vile turd up? He could if he wanted to.

Timewilltell519 · 19/12/2022 19:52

Judging by all the hatred I see daily on Mumsnet about H & M, I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the regular posters on the Royal Family pages support this. It’s absolutely disgraceful that this came to print. What have they done that warrants such treatment? It’s racism, classism and misogyny rolled into one and so many brainwashed women have wittingly and unwittingly contributed to an atmosphere in which this sort of article is acceptable to print.

LakeWindermere · 19/12/2022 19:53

Yes he has. Whatever you feel about Meghan, nobody deserves to be written about like that. What a disgusting specimen he is.

Bluevelvetsofa · 19/12/2022 19:54

Clarkson is an unpleasant individual and an entitled boor. What he wrote was vile and his response was as far from an apology as you can get.

The Queen Consort was at a private lunch, at which the host was a former owner or director of Fortnum & Mason. Presumably, he was the one who made the guest list. It included Clarkson, the equally vile Piers Morgan, but also Dame Judi Dench, Chris Evans and obviously others. They happened to be at a lunch together. Blame the person who invited those people. No one is castigating Judi Dench for being there, or the others who were.

Clarkson should lose all of his paid employment, but I don’t imagine he will. Unless everyone stops reading what he writes and watching his programmes.

Palacepicker · 19/12/2022 20:04

Finally, someone said something so utterly offensive that no one of sane mind could defend it.
Absolutely shameful, JC has dug low at times but this time he felt able to be so itterly offensive because the media was behind him - he's well and truly made an absolute arse of himself this time and scored an own goal in the process.
