The royal family

I truly do not understand the hate H&M get

I’ve just started watching their documentary, mainly due to the endless threads on here and wanting to actually see why people were so upset about them.

I don’t understand how anyone can watch them together, and especially watch Harry’s past and experiences and continue with the hate? Am I seeing something different to everyone else?

On mumsnet one of the biggest upset is that they’ve lied. Well first off, who hasn’t? Everyone lies about something. But surely when you’re being imprisoned in your home due to cameras being set up everywhere and your entire life is on show you’re going to say SOMETHING that doesn’t correlate? I know I would.

And almost every mumsnetter gets upset when a door is knocked when they weren’t expecting it, how the fuck could they live like Meghan did? With cameras absolutely everywhere?

I don't see how anyone with even a smidge of compassion could watch this and still want them to suffer and write such vile things. They’re just 2 people in love with little children caught up in the insane royal family/press cycle.

To answer the question. Social media is an extremely powerful force in the modern world. As such it can be used for extremists, conspiracy theorists and obsessive, unhinged people to create a narrative and push this hard enough to convince less savvy people that it is true.

Add to that two people who are divisive, who declare they want to protect their privacy, yet open it up to the world for millions of dollars, selling the privacy of other people, including their family. They display gross hypocrisy by keeping the titles of the family they openly accused of racism, yet are also attacked in a quite deranged manner, particularly on social media, but also on mainstream. So they are both victims and perpetrators. This dichotomy is confusing and polarising.

Add in also the divisive royal family which is anachronistic and resented by many people as a symbol of entitlement and privilege but supported by others just as strongly as symbols of stability and tradition.

Add also the couple's lives span two countries (UK and USA) which are quite riven with extreme left and right wing politics and increasingly unhinged in their belief systems, with conspiracy theories running riot, fuelled by a poorly regulated and often manipulated social media.

Basically it's complicated

tigger2022 · 28/05/2023 09:58

Exactly it’s because they’re so divisive personally and because so is the monarchy. People often ask why there aren’t as many threads about Prince Andrew: the answer is easy, it’s because everyone agrees on him, there’s nothing to discuss

TrashyPanda · 28/05/2023 12:07

People often ask why there aren’t as many threads about Prince Andrew

usually as a vain attempt to divert attention from H&M. The difference is PA doesn’t have deluded followers: everyone dislikes him! It’s a classic trick to try to switch awkward attention away from H&M, but most people are wise to it and to the poster who keeps trying to bring it up.

There were, a lot got deleted the rest are still there but as he isnt actively doing anything there is nothing to say is there

CathyorClaire · 28/05/2023 21:06

he isnt actively doing anything

Signs are very much that he is and always has been intent on regaining his public 'role' but sporting a blinged up velvet curtain on his brother's big day and plotting to sport it again in an upcoming charade isn't likely to advance his cause much.

CarCrazy · 28/05/2023 21:22

I don't hate them

But I massively hate their behaviour.

Their hypocrisy
Their lies
Their narcissism
Their preaching us o do what they don't do
Their endless whinging
Their bringing up the past
Their selling out to Netflix, the book deal etc..
The way Harry treats others and NEVER says sorry (outed his first sexual partner in his book without warning her, dressed up as a Nazi, v rude and horrible to a staff member at his boarding school...)
And mostly I hate the way Harry has treated his family - revealing private arguments with William, private and v initiate discussions with his dad, dredging up his mother's death over and over with no regard for his brother and how he might feel
Their selfishness
Their attempts to destroy the monarchy
Their dissing and criticism of the UK (without so much as a thought or thank you to the tax payer for providing Harry a life of privilege and megahn a v expensive wedding (which she moaned about later)
Their constant need to be in the spotlight
Their materialism and greed
Their hypocrisy, lies
Their hypocrisy, lies ...

100% agree. Their behaviour is what really revolted me. The paid of them. The hypocrisy is astounding

TrashyPanda · 28/05/2023 22:07

@CarCrazy - good summary!

There have been plenty of posters defending Andrew and the list above of why the poster hates 2 people she doesn't even know and who have done nothing to her is laughable. Anyone else remember all the threads complaining about how they hadn't seen Meghan for ages?). There's never even anything concrete they've 'done' just whining about greed and hypocrisy when they've done everything, cleared off, paid money back, got their own jobs, kept out of sight. I suppose they haven't fulfilled the ultimate wish of some as expressed on here many times which is divorce and he takes the kids while she grovels in the gutter.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 29/05/2023 09:43

I don't hate them, but I don't know how you could ever trust anyone who would trash their supposedly much loved family for cash.

8roses · 29/05/2023 09:46

A better question, I think, is what is there to like!?

polkadotdalmation · 29/05/2023 10:27

@Alltheprettyseahorses I don't think for a second Meghan will not keep the children or will be grovelling in the gutter. She is the savvy member of the family and she will run rings around Harry if he ever looked at divorce (as so much of the current speculation goes). She has built up a solid network of business connections and people, and will make a success of her career, whatever it decides to be. Harry has burned all his bridges in the UK and a lot with his former family, so he won't be wanted here, and I'm sure he won't want to be here.

CosmosQueen · 29/05/2023 10:42

Haydugee · 20/12/2022 11:03

Theyre whingey tone-deaf victims but my god, just imagine being in the eye of this storm.

But they deliberately whipped up the media storm with all the “big revelation” and dirt dishing interviews, documentaries and now a book about the Royal Family.

Precisely.
I don't ‘hate’ them as people because obviously I don’t know them personally but I very strongly dislike a lot of their behaviours.
Like @Sweetpeasaremadeforbees says, cashing in on your family is despicable and the perpetual ‘woe is me’ is getting beyond tedious and boring.
They’re out to make as much money as they can, in any way they can and i think Harry’s behaviour is vindictive and spiteful.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Meghan drops him before long; she’s got what she wants and he’s superfluous. She will want to be up there with the Obamas and Clooneys but his actions with putting in print not only personal but intimate details about his family means that I can’t imagine anyone ever trusting him again. I certainly wouldn’t!

polkadotdalmation · 29/05/2023 10:55

@CosmosQueen I don't have much time for Harry, but he is certainly up shit creek without a paddle

Why denigrate somebody’s feelings? You don’t know the poster, so why try to deny her feelings?

what exactly are these jobs they have got?

and why keep on costing the U.K. taxpayers with legal cases?

Sunnyeverday · 29/05/2023 11:47

Kate's parents took out a tax payer funded loan and still haven't paid back and business in ruin! Neither Kate nor her parents have successful career or business.

I truly do not understand the hate H&M get
mixedrecycling · 29/05/2023 11:52

Neither Kate nor her parents have successful career or business.

And yet they established a business in 1987 which ran successfully until the pandemic in 2020 - that's 33 years.

SkiingIsHeaven · 29/05/2023 12:11

You are looking their side of the story. It's not going to be unbiased.

TrashyPanda · 29/05/2023 12:58

Neither Kate nor her parents have successful career or business

of course the Middletown’s were successful!

yiu could say that MM didn’t have a successful career until she got a part in Suits - so most of her working life she wasn’t successful, was she?

Exactly this. He is a liability to her plans now. She no longer needs him as a connection to the Royal Family - she has two children who provide that. He would be received back in the U.K. if not given any royal tasks. Meghan would keep the children and demand (and get) large payouts for their keep from Charles.
Win-win for her - get rid of the embarrassment, and get a better cash deal

tigger2022 · 29/05/2023 16:53

Tbh I hope she moves on because she seemed so much more happy and confident before she got married… man is an energy dementor

Not all feelings are valid and the list is beyond silly. Imagine putting that much energy into hating someone you don't know. But I see Kate Middleton is starting to get it in the neck now the preferred scapegoat is getting too far out of reach.
