Why does everybody hate MM so much?

Probably going to end up quite controversial, however

I don't understand why people hate Meghan Markle so much?

As outsiders all looking in, we should really be on the fence for most of what has or hasn't happened, however in every situation, people jump at MM and hate her so much?!

I understand people may doubt things she's claimed, but there's no need for people to drag her down and have a go at her as much as they do.

& let's face it, none of the royal family are perfect 🤷‍♀️ I don't see a smidge as much hate for the likes of Andrew after the things he was involved with?

Most of what gets posted on MN is not hatred, it's criticism of what they're saying and doing. MN tend to be quick to delete anything that oversteps the mark. Your personal interpretation of what's acceptable to post is not relevant.

I don't hate anyone, I dislike the way both of them have behaved, but I don't wish them ill.

Crispychocolateslab · 16/12/2022 15:21

I really liked her at first. I watched the engagement video and the wedding and thought what a lovely couple they seemed.

I now dislike them both equally. That is 100% based on what I have seen and heard them say and do, and in no way based on the colour of her skin or 'what the media want me to think'. I think they are both liars, bullies and hypocrites.

I also think that if you are STILL bleating racism as the only possible reason for people disliking them then you're possibly a bit dim or haven't watched any of their recent interviews or documentaries.

ElEmEnOhPee · 16/12/2022 15:23

I don't think all of it is down to racism, but some of it certainly is.

There has always been an expectation for women to fit feminine stereotypes, and whilst Meghan fits those stereotypes in the way that she looks (dresses well and "feminine", well groomed) her behaviour would be more traditionally masculine in some ways. Confident, intelligent, speaks up for herself, earns her own money etc and though this is the norm for lots of women these days it's not for the vast majority of celebrities (look at all the Love Island/TOWIE types and influencers that are extremely popular, often they're pretty baubles with little intelligence).

Women in the public sphere can be intelligent, but not too much, they can be confident, but not too much and that probably goes more so for someone in the royal family and more again for women of colour. It smacks of Meghan basically not knowing her place.

I think that although Diana got a lot of bad press she was loved by the public because she was good at the doe eyed - innocent look and didn't come across quite so intelligent (not saying she wasn't) or confident as Meghan.

GerardusMercator · 16/12/2022 15:24

I've just finished watching the documentary on Netflix. There is undoubtedly fault on both sides of this argument, but what really came across to me was how much MM and Harry thought that Meghan should be the star of the show / saviour of the RF / constantly praised, and how nothing at all was ever her fault. I didn't hear her reflect once that she / they could have handled any situation better, even with the gift of hindsight. I find their victim mentality and lack of reflection on their own actions in all of this deeply disingenuous and troubling.

ElEmEnOhPee · 16/12/2022 15:25

Posted too soon.

When women stray from traditional stereotypes they can be of femininity it can have detrimental effects in all aspects of their lives. A good book that shows this is Doubly Deviant, Doubly Damned which shows that in the judicial system women who stray from the feminine architype often get longer prison sentences. A woman who is married to a man, raising her children, looks feminine, dresses feminine in the courtroom, looks demure and contrite will fair far better than a butch lesbian who has been divorced and has tattoos for example.

Not sure who hates her but both of them make me cringe and tend to mostly turn the channel over or scroll past. There is too much media exposure. I'm not sure why anyone would give a damn what they had to say about anything really. There is also an air of smugness about them but I don't know enough about them to understand why that is.

Spliffle · 16/12/2022 15:28

I dont' like the lies that have been proven. ie 'We got married two days earlier in the garden' snigger - errr, no you didn't.

I’ve always found her insincere, before any of the negative press started I just wasn’t a fan of her personality, I’m not really into showy “look at me” type people, but that’s just me.

I remember seeing a clip of Harry giving a speech on their Australian tour and it’s raining so she’s holding the umbrella but gazing at him whilst he spoke on stage, it just seemed odd to me in the scenario, most people wouldn’t behave like that. They would hold the umbrella and look at the audience.

Crispychocolateslab · 16/12/2022 15:30

I'd also add that in a time when there are women having to dilute their baby's milk with water, toddlers living in flats with mould growing up the walls and pensioners shivering in freezing homes, to see this pair of spoiled, overgrown brats whinging about where they were forced to live - a cottage in a palace that was apparently not good enough for them - is particularly stomach turning.

Absolutely nothing to do with her colour and everything to do with their behaviour.

FishBowlSwimmer · 16/12/2022 15:34

I feel that H&M are being vindictive, by repeatedly making negative comments about W&K. I can't see that they've done anything to warrant it. I don't like the inference that the UK is some racist backward thinking country, when the majority of us welcomed her or were indifferent. I don't like how they can't understand that the world doesn't owe them anything and that if you treat people like crap, they won't help you when you want/need them to. If you say nasty crap about people no one will trust you.

Actions have consequences, If they feel free to moan, criticise and belittle others, then others will feel free to scrutinize them in the same fashion.

Bigheartsshapelittleminds · 16/12/2022 14:53

@Rockybooboo Andrew is a separate issue and completely different. This thread is about MM. It doesn't affect my life at all, yet I have to constantly hear about her on the news! Her problem is nothing more than a family argument, yet she's decided to put it all over Netflix knowing the royal family can't ever say their side. I actually feel sorry for William and Kate. And I couldnt care less if what MM is saying is true or not, it's attention seeking.

It wasn't just a row. It was racial abuse and death threats.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 16/12/2022 15:41

I don’t hate her at all. I’m not racist either.

It irritates me that if someone does say they’re disappointed in Meghan’s behaviour then certain people jump on a bandwagon and say “it’s because she’s black ergo you’re racist”. When she first met Harry I agree with PPs it was a breath of fresh air, she seemed lovely, all up to her wedding. Then she changed.

As an actress/part of her character she does seem very attention seeking too. If she’d only listened to Michelle Obama then she’d be more liked. Even Oprah is distancing herself from her now.

Like I’ve said before here it’s disgusting if she’s received racist comments or behaviour directed towards her which has been negative and racially motivated but she’s not a naive 19/20 year old like Diana was. I certainly don’t believe her rubbish about “I didn’t know who Harry etc was”. Just own it and say you wanted to marry a prince and change the RF and she’d get a heck of a lot more of respect. Whereas now she comes across as a schoolgirl who’s been caught out misbehaving, telling fibs.

Hdhabvdhhebsb · 16/12/2022 15:41

@FishBowlSwimmer I may have misinterpreted the programme but to me, the inference was that the negative press releases were to detract attention from maybe rumours about W&K, I can't remember the timeframe with Andrew and if maybe that was the implication too.

Who is? Meghan is mixed race and very light skined at that.

She is mixed race.

This is how she defines herself and she looks like a light skinned mixed race person.

The (repetitive) haters talk about MM and Harry like they know them personally.

The obsession with them is unhealthy, deranged and just odd.

But so do her fans.

SighsTheNewWord · 16/12/2022 15:52

they can't cope with a beautiful, intelligent black woman marrying into.the Royals.

Of course you can dislike/disapprove of a black woman. But if your basis for disliking her is the colour of her skin

She black

So people are still peddling this b.s

FabYuleLous · 16/12/2022 15:54

I don’t hate MM but I do think she’s very bad news. I think she is a very damaged individual with a toxic narcissist personality.

I don’t think any more highly of Harry either. I think he’s a dimwit and he has arrested development.

They have caused a lot of upset. Where has the video gone from last week of Harry saying “ the Brits need to be taught a lesson?”. Where has that gone?

I blame Harry more than her. He needs to wind his cowardly neck in. His soldier mates must be really embarrassed for him. He’s a spineless, whinging man baby and a spoilt brat.

nancydroo · 16/12/2022 15:55

TeaAddict235 · 16/12/2022 15:41

She black

Dual heritage

TeaAddict235 · 16/12/2022 15:55

Ah but her mum is quite clearly black, and that is who has raised Meghan, therefore founded her mindset, her horizon and her strength (just read the hundreds of threads on this and other forums about white mothers needing a confident black women in their lives to help them over the many racial hurdles their dual heritage children will face until late adulthood). She identifies as a black woman, as in she has not discounted her black heritage (see their wedding as an example).

Let's be plain and frank about it, all those single hopeful European ladies expecting him to take their hand in marriage were rejected. Rejection is painful. However read a couple of books by black female authors and it has been written about in ample depth, have a deep heart to heart with any black confident woman married to a white man, and you will hear / read that white female opposition is heavy; as the white male (knight in shining armour Hmm) chose a black woman (yes with her naturally curly hair, black body and black history of oppression) over them. (I'm having to rush this on a grand scale MN, but it could be time to read and listen a bit more, and maybe be in the minority more often).

So when i write 'she black', I mean 'she black' in the wider context.

YellowTreeHouse · 16/12/2022 13:20

Because she’s a liar, a fantasist, she plays the victim despite her incredibly privileged lifestyle and she’s very nasty about her loved ones.

Harry is the same. It’s not just Meghan.

So true. She’s so privileged and just can’t seem to accept it. I’d love to see her cope with real life struggles like regular people

TeaAddict235 · 16/12/2022 15:57

By contrast listen to all those police reports, BBC crap music programs when they talk about grime etc, the boys are always black. I see many dual heritage kids there, but no one is saying that.
