Why does everybody hate MM so much?

Probably going to end up quite controversial, however

I don't understand why people hate Meghan Markle so much?

As outsiders all looking in, we should really be on the fence for most of what has or hasn't happened, however in every situation, people jump at MM and hate her so much?!

I understand people may doubt things she's claimed, but there's no need for people to drag her down and have a go at her as much as they do.

& let's face it, none of the royal family are perfect 🤷‍♀️ I don't see a smidge as much hate for the likes of Andrew after the things he was involved with?

Racist alert. 🚨

Shocks me how people are so in denial about the racism part,
All they have to do is read a history book on how the monarch became as is & they'll realise how much racism was (and still is) involved.

I suspect her initial popularity threatened the likes of Charles and William. So for this reason the media destroyed her and people believed the media.

I think this was a massive part of why Meghan was treated the way she was.

pilates · 16/12/2022 14:26

Or perhaps you’re a GF 🥱

Highfivemum · 16/12/2022 14:29

I do not hate her. I don’t know her so can’t hate her. What I do dislike is the media circus that her and her husband are instigating. Let’s go to America to live a normal life. Oh let’s do an interview. Oh let’s do a Netflix drama. !!! I don’t object to anyone living the life they want but why oh why drag up things. You have moved on so do so

Bigheartsshapelittleminds · 16/12/2022 14:30

I don't think she had any intention of trying to be part of the royal family from the start. If she didn't want the fame/scrutiny from the media etc then don't marry into the royal family!! Simple as. She seemed happy enough to be part of the royal family for the big expensive wedding but nothing else. She wanted to take Harry away from his family and she's succeeded. I know women that have done this in my life so I can see the signs.

MN Markle Bingo! I call BINGO 🎉

There you have it, stop all discussion if you dislike a woman who is mix race your all rasist. So stop the press all discussion is now over good bye 🙄

Ffs, you're missing the point. Of course you can dislike/disapprove of a black woman. But if your basis for disliking her is the colour of her skin, then yes, that's racism.

How does this affect your life? Hatred towards Andrew is one thing as innocent children were abused by Epstein and that could be one of our kids.

Roundandnour · 16/12/2022 14:37

Sometimes people do need that extra hand to get away from toxic people.

He’d said for years he wanted to escape them. Doing so alone would have been hard. If it was easy then people wouldn’t contemplate going nc with family or waking away from an abusive relationship.

With all the shit that has been said I really don’t blame them for speaking out. With all the speculation about why he left I don’t blame them from speaking out.

The silence coming from the establishment is deafening.

Summerbabypending · 16/12/2022 14:45

People seem to hate Meghan Markle more than Prince Andrew and it’s complete insanity in my opinion.

You created a new email account to join mumsnet?

Love, you REALLY need to get out more

Bigheartsshapelittleminds · 16/12/2022 14:53

@Rockybooboo Andrew is a separate issue and completely different. This thread is about MM. It doesn't affect my life at all, yet I have to constantly hear about her on the news! Her problem is nothing more than a family argument, yet she's decided to put it all over Netflix knowing the royal family can't ever say their side. I actually feel sorry for William and Kate. And I couldnt care less if what MM is saying is true or not, it's attention seeking.

HettysTether · 16/12/2022 14:56

Nonsense @Summerbabypending PA doesn't parade around for the press or makes glossy TV shows to prove he's right or worthy, we don't ever see him anymore good riddance and there is no outrage factor as he is out of the public's sight. When he did his Panorama interview, MN was on fire and he was a much hated figure. He still is there just isn't anything new to say whereas with M&H, they are constantly in the public eye, of course we'll be discussing them when they have just dropped some Netflix content.

People don't hate MM. She does come across as awful and I don't like people who backstab their own flesh and blood even if they feel justified to do, it's so horrible. It's no hate it is dislike for a drama lama.

SaturnaliaCalling · 16/12/2022 14:58

I think the casual use of 'hate', 'haters', 'hatred' and 'hating on' that has crept into Mumsnet from social media is becoming a bit of problem in its own right.

Wonnle · 16/12/2022 15:00

Why not ?

She's a lying manipulative fantasist for a start

Trouble is though that people can dislike someone for all sorts of other reasons, but are accused of racism anyway. Even when it isn't.

RunDownRita · 16/12/2022 15:03

I don't hate her and don't know anyone who does, although I think that her style of communication doesn't work especially well for an English audience (a lot of her statements would work better if she prefaced them "it felt as if...").

I think that she's shone a light on quite what a lot of crap the RF is expected to suck up without complaining- things like the press camped outside hospitals in which Royals give birth and the outrage that met her decision not to go along with that. I suspect there's a bit of national cognitive dissonance going on there- we can't process the fact that we've (as a nation) expected unreasonable things from the RF so instead we've (as a nation) decided that MM is the unreasonable one.

Doesn't bother me at all that she and Harry have rejected the media scrutiny that comes with RF membership but still want to be public-facing. MM was a celebrity before she married, why should she shut herself away now? They're free to do what they want- if people aren't interested, they'll stop paying attention.

All of that said, I don't especially like her either and have no interest in eg watching her TV show. Nothing personal, just not for me. My (small) interest in the RF is in them performing their public roles- I'm not interested in them as individuals.

loislovesstewie · 16/12/2022 15:05

I don't hate either of them. I'm just permanently perplexed by the fact that neither seemed to have a clue about what being in the RF meant, what was expected of them and the fact that they appear to be whinging constantly. Their lives appear to be constant drama, Harry is incapable of phoning a doctor, neither can get to grips with the set up, or seeking advice. Sorry but for 2 adults they both appear to be very impractical. And Harry clearly couldn't support Meghan so she felt happy.

jtaeapa · 16/12/2022 15:06

Alexandernevermind · 16/12/2022 14:21

I liked her when she first appeared, the whole breath of fresh air thing. Everyone I spoke to at the time (white people) were excited to see this glamorous, intelligent black woman join the RF. Most people would still like her / them now and understand the escape if it wasn't for the money hungry tell all interviews and TV deals. The RF are the representative family of the UK, and by attacking them publically they are attacking the country. I don't disbelieve their claims, and I certainly don't dsibelieve the racism claims, but I think the other side of the story would be an interesting eye opener too, I'm just pleased that the other side are too dignified to join in the public slanging match.

Exactly this. I thought it was so cool Harry was marrying MM. Went to watch the wedding at a friend's. Fantastic day. Used to watch her in Suits. I had no problem with H&M leaving the UK if that's what they thought best for their family and their privacy. I now cannot stand either of them and wish all the documentaries etc would stop.

I am no "flag shagger". I am relatively indifferent about the monarchy, but think the deciding factor is the cultural interest and tourism they bring to the UK. Financially, they benefit us. I am no racist either. People who don't like MM include several members of her family, ex friends, ex acquaintances and ex employees. Are they all racists? Does that really seem like a feasible explanation?

Coxspurplepippin · 16/12/2022 15:08

'Doesn't bother me at all that she and Harry have rejected the media scrutiny that comes with RF membership but still want to be public-facing.'

But their current shenanigans have done nothing but elicit media scrutiny, probably more so than if they'd remained in the UK.

I can see that that's a reason to think they're poorly advised. Don't see it as a reason for me to dislike them [shrug]

AnnaMagnani · 16/12/2022 15:12

They hate any woman who marries in to the royal family.

I am now old enough to have seen Diana, Sarah, Sophie, Catherine and Meghan all go through the hate.

Meanwhile men have married in with barely a whisper.

It's misogyny with added racism.

What on earth did the media say about Sophie? 😔

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/12/2022 15:14

They don’t. It’s just a few mad nutters.

Obviously she’s attracting the RF right now, which will annoy a few more people - but that group don’t hate her.

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/12/2022 15:15

ATTACKING not attracting

MrsTumblebee · 16/12/2022 15:15

I don’t hate her. But being the fantasist and liar the she frequently shows herself to be has put me right off her.
