The royal family

Why does everybody hate MM so much?

yorkshirepudsx · 16/12/2022 12:55

Probably going to end up quite controversial, however

I don't understand why people hate Meghan Markle so much?

As outsiders all looking in, we should really be on the fence for most of what has or hasn't happened, however in every situation, people jump at MM and hate her so much?!

I understand people may doubt things she's claimed, but there's no need for people to drag her down and have a go at her as much as they do.

& let's face it, none of the royal family are perfect 🤷‍♀️ I don't see a smidge as much hate for the likes of Andrew after the things he was involved with?

Lottapianos · 16/12/2022 13:38

Racism, misogyny, snobbery, anti-Americanism. It's pretty nasty stuff. I can understand why people might not like her, or find her a pain in the arse or whatever, but the level of rage and disgust and vitriol is just insane

This isn’t odd at all due to mns previous lack of security.

After one of their serious breaches a few years ago I did an email account just for this place.

Anyway back to the op. Racism and bs stories from the media.

kenadams86 · 16/12/2022 13:47

I suspect her initial popularity threatened the likes of Charles and William. So for this reason the media destroyed her and people believed the media.

I'm not entirely sure I agree with how they've handled things at times but I also think they have been treated really really terribly by the media and the RF.

I had no particular like or dislike for any of them and take media/tabloid stories about them with a pinch of salt.
I watched them on OW and I've watched several of the Netflix episodes. I still waver between feeling a lot of sympathy for them (undoubtedly the press have treated her in particular, horrendously) and then being sceptical/cringing about other stuff.i obviously don't know them but I found some things difficult to make sense of.

I don't love her, (she's incredibly gorgeous) I don't hate her but I hope that they get to "move on to the next chapter" soon (Harry's words)

This is exactly how I feel but You have worded it much better than I could have

Hdhabvdhhebsb · 16/12/2022 13:53

I don't hate her, not bothered about her background at all except she had already been married/divorced and maybe because of her age they seemed to move towards getting engaged relatively quickly...should they have waited...probably and then she would have been fully exposed over a longer term to the tedium of public service that I'm guessing is the downside of being in the RF. Did I ever think she would be suited to this kind of role? No, as it seems to need completely the opposite traits of being an activist, actress and possibly culturally as an American.
Do I think Harry is a chump? Absolutely and America and MM are welcome to him and if it's another off the list of people that my taxes don't have to support for very little return then all the better. If I were Harry's relatives I would leave him quietly where he is (as is his wish) and send Xmas and birthday cards and have little else to do with him until a long time after he had piped down in public about his mum and how badly treated he is and what a saviour he now is for 'rescuing and protecting' his new family from his old one. I would wait for him to make a contribution to the world that is not off the back of his family and then would reach out to congratulate him.

MyOtherCarIsAHearse · 16/12/2022 13:55

I don’t hate her, and I see her the same as Harry: completely ridiculous.

I don't think people hate her. I do think they cringe for her though.

BlueKaftan · 16/12/2022 14:03

I love her.

CHRIST0PHERR0BIN · 16/12/2022 14:04

In my opinion she married into a very important historical family and felt she could become the main character and change things she didn't like and they would all fawn over her because she was a beautiful actress. She wanted to do it her way but take all the perks. When that didn't happen she left. She dealt with not getting her own way the same way her father did - taking it to the press and making a scene. I believe they will continue to cause a scene, as he did, if they are ignored by the royal family. She took on a job role and agreed to certain terms and traditions then complained when it wouldn't change itself to what she wanted it to be. Whether rightly or wrongly the (very well known) mantra of the royal family is "Never complain, never explain" and she couldn't even respect that simple rule. I do believe its a lot to do with culture difference between US and UK. Catherine plays the role well and is often labelled a puppet, boring and vanilla but that is what the job demands. She flashes her smile, offends nobody, has no opinions of her own, looks like a doll and says all the right things no matter what storm is going on around her. Meghan couldn't do that and just isn't that person.

I always felt sorry for Lady Diana as she was so young going into the situation and less was known or publicised then. However Meghan was a successful, 35 year old woman and knew what she was getting into.

Lolacat1234 · 16/12/2022 14:07

I find it so weird the amount of hate directed at her especially on mumsnet. I actually find it quite comical and yeah just a bit bewildering!

AbbieLexie · 16/12/2022 14:07

The blatant and consistent lies

Coxspurplepippin · 16/12/2022 14:08

No hate, but a bit Hmm at the inconsistencies, the sly digs, and the fact that they have nothing but their connection to the RF which they're monetising for all it's worth. Without the RF connection Oprah, NF and Harry's ghostwriter wouldn't have looked at them twice.

And despite their professed hate for the way they've been treated by the tabloids and SM, they keep doing things which contribute to more of the same. And being surprised and shocked when it happens......

Octo5 · 16/12/2022 14:08

I think some people just need someone to hate.

Many MNers also hate Americans.

I prefer her and Harry over William and Kate as I think they’re less fake but I don’t get sucked into all of the drama like some people seem to.

raspberrytinsel · 16/12/2022 14:09

narcissism and hypocrisy, total lack of self-awareness ... mean ...baffles me when people can't see it, but then baffles me how many people get walked on by cheeky fuckers, I guess that is the cohort Markle fans lie in.

Pixilicious1 · 16/12/2022 14:11

YellowTreeHouse · 16/12/2022 13:20

Because she’s a liar, a fantasist, she plays the victim despite her incredibly privileged lifestyle and she’s very nasty about her loved ones.

Harry is the same. It’s not just Meghan.

So what - how does this affect you?

I don't hate Americans, I am lucky to have some in my family, there is, however, a cultural difference that can feel very alien and (as someone else has said) 'cringe' compared to how a Brit would go about things.

qpmz · 16/12/2022 14:21

They don't. The media makes out she's hated but many people don't care. She's not evil, she can live her life how she wants.

Alexandernevermind · 16/12/2022 14:21

I liked her when she first appeared, the whole breath of fresh air thing. Everyone I spoke to at the time (white people) were excited to see this glamorous, intelligent black woman join the RF. Most people would still like her / them now and understand the escape if it wasn't for the money hungry tell all interviews and TV deals. The RF are the representative family of the UK, and by attacking them publically they are attacking the country. I don't disbelieve their claims, and I certainly don't dsibelieve the racism claims, but I think the other side of the story would be an interesting eye opener too, I'm just pleased that the other side are too dignified to join in the public slanging match.

YellowTreeHouse · 16/12/2022 14:22

Pixilicious1 · 16/12/2022 14:11

Because despite their lies that they wanted privacy, they’re out and about spouting their bullshit through every media possible so you cannot ignore them.

PartyPaw · 16/12/2022 14:24

Racist alert. 🚨

pinneddownbytabbies · 16/12/2022 14:25

I couldn't be more indifferent if I tried don't have an opinion one way or the other. What I do think though, is that the way they are going about this is probably not for the best in the long run, and it will come back to bite them on the backside. There are ways and means of achieving what you want to achieve when it comes to family disputes, and a Netflix spill-the-beans documentary isn't it.
