Meghan & Harry Were Lying From The Start, Weren't They?

As per the thread title.

Right from the word go, Meghan and Harry were not telling the truth. About anything.

Now the Netflix series has come out it just proves it, over and over again.

Meghan was not "thrown into it". They had a choice to have a quiet, low key start, but Meghan wanted to "hit the ground running".
They were given the option of a low key wedding, a house in the Cotswolds, Meghan to carry on acting, easing into it in a small way. But no. So :
they were given important Commonwealth roles, and a prestigious tour, which was organised and discussed with them before the wedding. The organisers did not know that she would be pregnant. The choice was to cancel the whole tour or go ahead. I actually thought it went well.
You're right, @RosettaStormer - there was a lot to learn, I think probably too much for someone like Meghan. It did turn out to be too much too soon. That Harry never understood that, I think is problematic.

I did say a lot of it was her own fault. Also Harry’s of course, but as in all things I think he was led by her.

Maireas · 11/02/2024 08:06

Yes, @RosettaStormer - I was so impressed by the engagement interview, I thought she was going to be great, they would be such an asset. I think it was all too much too soon, Meghan never really understood and Harry was spectacularly inept as a husband and guide.

Since you’ve quoted Sagharbor specifically responding to me, I’d just like to clarify that it’s absolutely not my “hobby” to “slag off Meghan”.

What I generally do is correct the often completely inaccurate assumptions and assertions people make about both her and plenty of other members of the royal family. Posters use a lot of “they always” and “they never” assertions to try and support their opinions (whatever they may be) and they are almost never accurate. Like Sagharbor asserting that no royals attend the Met gala to support their argument that it’s not something that would be on the radar of the Sussexes to attend. Except plenty of royals attend it, so that’s a silly assertion to make (and double down on when shown to be inaccurate!)

Viviennemary · 11/02/2024 08:27

They were more or less A list royals as far as status went. Seems they still weren't happy that William and Kate were ahead of them in the pecking order. So decided they wanted half in half out so they could be A list celebs too. Queen said no. So they are now third rate celebs and no rated royals. Up the creek without a paddle or anywhere to go next.

RoyallyRhubarb · 11/02/2024 08:32

If only they’d waited. Charles ill. William stepping back. Harry and Meghan would now be the number one royals in the news coverage stakes and would have a huge amount of attention.

Alalain · 11/02/2024 07:29

I too felt sorry for her during the Bradbury interview in S.Africa, I think she really did look like a woman in the throes of postnatal depression. With regards to Harry telling her to turn around on the balcony, I think it was more her expression when she turned around that got everyone talking, she had a face like thunder and appeared to be livid. When William was told to stand up, he didn't react at all.

I think she looked close to tears in that clip rather than angry

Maireas · 11/02/2024 08:41

Yes, I think she looked close to tears, @Nishky32 - when I saw that I thought she may be struggling. Why didn't Harry explain what was expected beforehand?

Serenster · 11/02/2024 08:49

The tour to S Africa when she had a young baby and was still breastfeeding was also a massive miscalculation. It does make you wonder who decided on the timings of these things.

I am sure that I read (though can’t recall where now) that Meghan and Harry had been given the option for Harry to go to South Africa on his own, but they decided that they both wanted to go.

It may or may not have been the case, we can’t know, but there has been a precedent for changing schedules. Kate was supposed to go on a solo tour to Malta for example which she pulled out of and William picked up instead, when she was newly pregnant with Charlotte.

I didnt feel a bit sorry for her. She looked like somebody full of self pity. Boo hoo nobody likes me. The lack of self awareness is astounding. Mean treatment of her father unforgivable. Totally insensitive to his feelings. Double standards again at play. As is common with them.

Serenster · 11/02/2024 08:54

Oh, and just to clarify, I don’t mean that because it may have been their choice that they can’t complain when it turned out to be an unhappy experience. I think most new mothers have assumed they’ll be up to something that in practice, with a newborn and everything associated with that, turns out to have been an unwise decision! I just meant they probably weren’t forced into Meghan going on the tour.

@Serenster I think so too. Motherhood comes as a shock. Who we are before, and what we think we will be able to do with a new baby, is often not the reality when the time comes.

Maireas · 11/02/2024 09:09

Exactly, @Serenster and @LittleTeawithmilk1 . I think we can understand that, and feeling overwhelmed. We have no idea what was said or done behind the scenes, but my take is that Harry needed to be a more effective partner in getting her help/support or reconsidering tours/engagements. That's what struck me about the Oprah interview.

Yes , that was stated although I can’t remember where . Similarly , the Kate Queen gave them the option to have a quiet few years , Meghan could continue acting etc but they said no .

Spectre8 · 11/02/2024 09:37

And maybe they didn't want a few quiet yrs because let's face it then it would be about how little they are doing.

End of the day noone can win w&k or h&m

Damned if they do or if they don't and the people doing it are the media and us. And they know how vicious it can get..waity katie for example.

Nishky32 · 11/02/2024 10:01

@Maireas - I always thought he was to blame for her being upset, he seemed a bit sharp when he spoke to her ( I know it’s a split second snap shot but still)

I don’t think Meghan listens to anyone, even Harry. She thinks she knows best at all times. As for being feted and lauded and given lots of attention, that is what Meghan wanted. Harry is supposed to hate the spotlight. Which is curious because now it’s all he seems to want.

mrsmingleton · 11/02/2024 10:10

I was trying to find out why that tour took place at that time and all that I came up with was that it was the couple who made the specific requests and that it was a very demanding schedule. Harry did several days by himself I believe. Doing things solo is very different from when you are a family. Perhaps he wanted to get out there in his new status as a married Royal.

In the Netflix documentary when H & M implied M was just like Diana and better at the job that other members of the RF.

Yet M moaned later about how taxing it was and reportedly asked why so many people had turned up. What was she actually expecting?

Maireas · 11/02/2024 10:41

All too much and difficult, paradoxically they did an amazing job and the other royals were jealous.

Yes exactly .

CoffeeCantata · 11/02/2024 10:48

The point that struck me most about the pic of Meghan driving her monster tank was not so much the smile - she could have been listening to a funny radio programme! - but that she was drinking from a cup whilst driving. OMG!

I wag my finger at people who do that, or who are on their mobiles. Very dangerous.

mrsmingleton · 11/02/2024 10:56

That's bog standard in the USA@CoffeeCantata.

SilkFloss · 11/02/2024 11:45

I presume she turned fully round to him so that no one could lipread what she was going to say. Agree she looked tearful.
