Meghan’s mock curtsy

full Disclosure I am no Meghan fan. However if we don’t try to see people as multifaceted and full of attributes, strengths and weaknesses we will never understand the truth. I honestly believe when she did that mock curtsy she was completely taking the piss out of herself. She says something afterwards such as “ I hadn’t got a clue what I was doing “. I think harry is embarrassed at the dramatic bow and also a bit sad that she is resorting to taking the piss out of herself.

OP posts:

The whole thing is a car crash. Why they are surprised the media has turned on them when they have launched multiple law suits against them is just ridiculous!!!

also the tide seemed to turn on them when she visited a refuge and wrote messages of support on bananas for sex workers!

however being offered 80 million pound is not to be sniffed at

but the whole thing is just a circus I wish they’d all make up so we could stop seeing multiple articles about them everyday!

tempname124 · 11/12/2022 09:38

The fuss over this is absolutely ridiculous. Yes of course she’s just being self-deprecating! Nonsense to act as if she was being disrespectful to the Queen. Our media and society really is full of a lot of hypersensitive pearl clutchers.

sashagabadon · 11/12/2022 09:39

I think she is/ was taking the mickey out of herself but also implying the gesture is ridiculous which is not for her to say. It is a U.K. custom when meeting the queen. Would she take the piss out of another nations custom when meeting their head of state?
harry looked embarrassed as he was!
I think it just shows that she thinks monarchy is like acting on a stage which it is to some extent but behind close doors the queen is still the queen. She misunderstood that imo.

TheWitchwithNoName · 11/12/2022 09:39

I totally agree with you. It’s obvious she was taking the piss out of herself and I’m baffled it’s being seen any differently!

Quitelikeit · 11/12/2022 09:42

And also there was a thread yesterday pointing out some racist comments in the media - the media has always been racist

for example reporting on peoples ethnicity or where they are from when talking about crimes etc just stoking the fire or divide if you like

im sure Harry was aware of all of that stuff. He doesn’t have to accept it but mind you taking on the media is stupid. They will win every time. They even control who runs countries and influence elections so they are not bothered about Harry and Meghan!

See, I don't think she's being self-deprecating, I feel she's acting self-deprecating. She's trying to play the part of the wide-eyed, relatable American. For me, it doesn't ring true. In everything she does, I can't shake the impression I'm being fed a narrative.

Some take her at face value, so when she says she felt X or thought Y or didn't realise Z, they just believe her and think, "gosh, how awful, poor her." Others are just more sceptical. That is the nub of all this IMO.

Theunamedcat · 11/12/2022 09:46

Is this when she first met the Queen? Because that's not how she told the story before? She said fergie showed her how to courtesy as he had taken them over to visit Andrew and fergie and the Queen came around

saturnsring · 11/12/2022 09:47

I'm conflicted. I don't think the curtesy thing was mocking the queen, I think she was mocking herself and her own lack of understanding. I also have total sympathy for them wanting to break free of the institution and Harry's hatred towards the press who hounded his mother and then did the same to his wife.

Having said this I just don't understand why they didn't go off and lead the quiet life they appeared to want. They could have still done worthwhile charity work but the Netflix series and book deals are just throwing them back into the public eye they so desperately wanted to escape from?

Ineedtocleanmywoodenblinds · 11/12/2022 09:49

Agreed OP but honestly the amount of vitriol the two of them receive for very minor things doesn’t shock me at all now.

DillDanding · 11/12/2022 09:50

Of course it was self-deprecating.

If they wanted everyone talking about it, they’ve got their wish. Netflix must be delighted.

OldReliable · 11/12/2022 09:50

It's bloody ridiculous that she had to curtsy in the first place. It's 2022.

Who cares if she was mocking the fact she had to curtsy? It's got no place in a modern society.

KateBain · 11/12/2022 09:52

I don't believe it happened. She's a smart woman and would have done extensive research beforehand.

She's one of those people who tell unfunny anecdotes and fall about laughing at themselves whilst the listener sits there with a fixed grin wanting it to be over because they don't find it amusing but don't want to appear rude.

Ineedtocleanmywoodenblinds · 11/12/2022 09:53

I was discussing this with a friend the other day and we agreed that some people won’t be happy until Meghan is forced to do a Game Of Thrones Cersai walk if shame type thing. 😂

SnottyLottie · 11/12/2022 09:54

It’s just a game to the media. Plain and simple.

The media say something negative about H&M
H&M respond
The media know they’ve got a reaction so keep provoking
H&M attack the media
The media start a targeted hate campaign (which is great for their newspaper revenue etc) to provoke more reactions
H&M bring lawsuits against them
The media use the lawsuit to their advantage and bring out more ‘dirt’ which can cause embarrassment for H&M
H&M win the lawsuit but suffer loss of reputation (due to media reporting and dirt)
The media whip up more frenzy with reporting on H&M with the ability to blow things out of proportion (because they know they can)

I can really see why the RF stick with ‘never complain, never explain’. I know H&M say they are making a stand to stick up for what’s right but it must be so emotionally draining to wage war on the press. I don’t think it’s a war they can win.

PatriciaPattersonGimlin · 11/12/2022 09:59

I don't give a shit either way but to see these two millionaires whinging from luxuriously appointed rooms and various amazing locations sticks in my craw.

They are assuming we want to hear what they have to say and sadly, it seems a lot of people do.

I prefer real people. This two would benefit from counselling instead of offloading onto us and getting paid for it.

StickyCricket · 11/12/2022 10:09

I did initially think she was taking the piss out of the monarchy and the tradition, especially as it was coupled with her remarks about the medieval theatre nights in America.

I was also a bit bemused as it differs from her previous account of meeting the Queen and Fergie showing her how to curtesy.

But I can also see how it could be viewed as her being self deprecating.

I’m starting to wonder if Netflix have done them dirty tbh. The opening scenes of Meghan being interview and asked years ago whether she’d ‘choose’ William or Harry despite her now insistence she didn’t know who he was, images of paparazzi which are completely unrelated to H&M, the curtesy scene (especially given the look on Harry’s face), the paparazzi ‘chase’ in the car in which there were no paparazzi chasing them. The inconsistencies aren’t a good look.

Georgeskitchen · 11/12/2022 10:10

Mocking another country's customs ,however bizarre you may think they are, is not really good manners.
Perhaps she should try it in Iran and see how she fares!!

MrsSkylerWhite · 11/12/2022 10:10

Of course she’s laughing at herself.

would you name your child after someone you disrespected?

such a lot of nonsense for people with too much time on their hands.

WilmaFlintstone1 · 11/12/2022 10:13

For anyone outraged by Harry and Meghan I have just two words. Prince Andrew.

If you are more outraged by Harry and Meghan you need to take a good long look at yourself and ask why you dislike this woman who felt hounded by the Press and not the man wHo clearly abused many underage girls.

AclowncalledAlice · 11/12/2022 10:15

Has anyone blamed her for England being out of the world cup yet??

bakalava · 11/12/2022 10:15

It was to generate clickbait and dump on her critics, her usual little game playing with the press which is why we are so reluctant for them to have expensive paid security when they almost make (but never overtly, of course) a lot of goady, trolling claims.
The three episodes have been dull. This was a way of grabbing a few more headlines. As Simon Sebag Montefiore said, the series has been "portentous but not momentous". This was a badly rehearsed way of manufacturing momentum.

Not come across anyone who actually supports Andrew .
He may come across as a sleazeball but where are all the "many underage girls" he abused? And just to add, he's not trousering millions to smear his family
