Meghan’s mock curtsy

full Disclosure I am no Meghan fan. However if we don’t try to see people as multifaceted and full of attributes, strengths and weaknesses we will never understand the truth. I honestly believe when she did that mock curtsy she was completely taking the piss out of herself. She says something afterwards such as “ I hadn’t got a clue what I was doing “. I think harry is embarrassed at the dramatic bow and also a bit sad that she is resorting to taking the piss out of herself.

People feel they can mock British institutions as we are toothless. People seem to show more respect to other cultures customs. In Thailand insulting the King is a true offence. Megan doesn't need to like the royal family. Go off and enjoy your non-royal life and leave them alone.

bakalava · 11/12/2022 17:58

It almost feels like their easy acceptance of her in the beginning devalued them in her eyes. The majority of royal families around the world would have tried to block the marriage on religious grounds or because she was old or a divorcee or things she had done as an actress.

Jux · 11/12/2022 18:01

I want to know why the hell her oh-so-devoted lover allowed her to make so many mistakes. He just threw her at his family and waited around to see what would happen? Is he really that stupid? Or is he just a little shit?

StickofVeg · 11/12/2022 18:09

Could she not just have youtubed it? She makes such a fuss and is still going on about something years ago.

sashagabadon · 11/12/2022 18:14

Re. Curtsies in general I think people overthink them. They are v easy to do, right foot just n front of left and quickly and slightly bend both knees very quickly.
I haven’t done one for years but just did one to see if I still rock the move. Reader, I do!
women can look awkward but I think that is because they put their right foot too far forward and bend their knees too much and take too long. I should give trouble shooter lessons, could be a lucrative side gig!

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/12/2022 18:19

She doesn't make a fuss.🤷‍♀️ She says something/anything/nothing and everyone else, particularly those who those who can't stand her, make a fuss.😂😂😂

In a nutshell.....

Meghan’s mock curtsy
Tontostitis · 11/12/2022 18:30

Tbf you've used a photo of a disgraced nan whose taking his punishment and paying fir his actions versus a known Liar masquerading as a victim. Apples and pears

hay5689 · 11/12/2022 18:31

@StaunchMomma it's not "in a nutshell". The media had a field day with Andrew and right now he's not the one making documentaries and selling them to the highest bidder. It's not like we have to pick who we don't like the most, we can actually dislike and disagree with Andrew and Harry & Meghan, it's not one or the other.

StaunchMomma · 11/12/2022 18:33

My point is - where was the rage for Andrew?

Frapped · 11/12/2022 18:36

Andrew was just a sex offender. Meghan is mixed race AND American. We can count up the threads and decide which MN and the rest of the UK is most upset by.

I think there's probably not much disagreement in relation to Andrew.

Absolutely noone is in support of Andrew.

bakalava · 11/12/2022 19:24

Harry and Meghan have never publicly denounced Andrew themselves. Infact, they have dropped hints many times that the York family are their good allies within the Royal Family. We can make of that what we like.

I’ve always wondered this. He drops it on her at the last minute that she’s got to curtsy and she doesn’t know what to do.

In the many hours of them talking and getting to know each other, he never mentioned the protocols of meeting granny? Surely he knows this is not the way every other family operates? He couldn’t show her how to do it? He must have seen it thousands of times.

the first walkabout, he didn’t know what to tell her about how to dress? Couldn’t ask his sister in law, his cousins, isnt she friends with one of the York girls , aunties, any one of the hundreds of advisers he access to.

I do wonder if he left her in the dark about the weirdness of his family, because he didn’t want her to bolt.

Several times, as have our kids.

What's with this belief that she was laughing at herself, at her naivety? her gaucheness?. She's highly educated with a degree in International Relations, has had years of ballet training, years of acting classes and practice was a minor celebrity and millionaire's in her own right and yet wants us to believe she is naive, gauche, shy and cute at 41? behave.

Agree with this.

Reindeersnooker · 12/12/2022 13:50

cushioncovers · 11/12/2022 23:32

Agree with this.

Not naïve in general but I think everyone (even Diana and Kate) had extremely awkward WTF moments at first. As an American who is not really suited in her style to the formality required within the royal family it is completely understandable that she was particularly out of her depth. None of the experiences you've mentioned would necessarily educate her on how protocol within the royal family. I have personally never curtseyed to anyone, wouldn't know how to do it and would probably tell the story of how I got it so wrong. And I have a degree etc.

Bugeyedowl · 12/12/2022 14:36

I wrote this on another thread not realising there was this one:

I think some are very deliberately misinterpreting the scene. Meghan was clearly making fun of herself, she didn't realise that curtseying was a Real Thing, she didn't know that she was going to have to do it, or how to do it. Her frame of reference was "Medieval Times", not sure what that is, a TV show? But anyway she was mocking herself for her over-the-top, flowery way of curtseying. She definitely did not mock the Queen. Harry looked like he was cringeing for sure, but maybe he was. He should have taught her how to do it!

jeffgoldblum · 12/12/2022 14:57

Medieval times is apparently a cheesy , tacky eating establishment in the US , apparently some US posters on sm are saying this makes what Meghan said even more offensive than U.K. people realise .

melonraspberry · 12/12/2022 15:03

I don't see why it matters if she was taking the mick. It's batshit that anyone bows or curtesys to anyone, let alone a random woman born into a title.

jeffgoldblum · 12/12/2022 15:07

Because it's not nice to take the mick out of another countries traditions even if you think it's stupid, a lot of things in other countries seem stupid, but it would be rude to mock them wouldn't it?

bakalava · 12/12/2022 15:17

Wider context matters

Doing a mock curtsey/recalling a tacky medieval banquet experience when everything worked out happily in the end within the royal family = funny

Doing it after you have flounced and are full of vitriol against the royal family and the UK = catty

ShellsOnTheBeach · 12/12/2022 15:19

I do wonder if he left her in the dark about the weirdness of his family, because he didn’t want her to bolt.

I think you may have a point there...😆
