The royal family

Harry and Meghan - lies?

FurAndFeathers · 28/10/2022 19:51

Ok I’m keeping my fingers crossed this thread will not descend into an unsubstantiated bun fight! Please bear with me.

I’m definitely no Royalist, and am pretty ambivalent about H and M but from the little I’ve read they seem to have been treated pretty badly. However I keep seeing on other threads here that their claims have all be proven to be lies, which would make me much less sympathetic to them. But I can’t find any verification for this.

So I’m asking more knowledgeable posters - what lies specifically have H&M told and where’s the evidence to the contrary please?

thank you

I've never seen her referred to as Middleton.

I think I'd have my arse handed to me on a plate if I called Kate/Duchess of Wales/Catherine as 'Middleton' on royal threads!

MarshaMelrose · 30/12/2022 20:22

I don't see how Harkles is derogatory. It's just a merging of their names, like Brangelina. I know it's her surname but you couldn't use heghan (that makes her sound like she looks like a man) or Marry or Merry. It doesn't work if a word already exists.

Blip · 30/12/2022 20:24

Duchess of Wales? I thought the point of that post was that it was important to get people's names right?

Princess of Wales 😉

FurAndFeathers · 30/12/2022 20:27

Yes she’s still often referred to as Meghan Markle in the media, I noticed whilst checking info for an earlier post before <ahem> someone attacks me for knowing this after saying I don’t know much about them.

it’s pretty rude.

Incredible how posters on Mumsnet absolutely KNOW the confidential inner conversations of the Royal family.
remarkable really!

When they made their statement after their holiday in Canada , there was absolutely no mention of media problems. It was all about how they planned to operate in the future . No mention of seeking agreement, it was presented as a fait accompli . Then The Queen said no .
It doesn’t take Einstein to work out that had they been allowed their arrangement, things would have been very different .

@MarshaMelrose

I thought the poster meant using their single surname,

Yeah, as Kate Middleton but never just Middleton. Mind you, I don't really remember Meghan being called Markle. But people do mess around with her name a lot so it's distinctly possible.

I do apologise.

I typed quickly.

Princess of Wales.

bakalava · 30/12/2022 20:30

They were trying to force her hand but the lady was never for turning.

Let's do a merging of names for Kate and William then? OK?

bakalava · 30/12/2022 20:32

Meghan is really called Rachel anyway so it is more polite to use her real name.

Oh fair enough.

I mean we’d totally expect them to have publicly told us about their prior personal family discussions in a statement.

the fact that they didn’t means they definitely didn’t have any conversations or try to address anything before leaving

or it does if you think absence of evidence is equivalent to evidence of absence

At the risk of staying the obvious It’s more polite to use her preferred or official name

but I doubt anyone on here is actually interested in manners

Kill. Oh no, wait. The Killers. I love that. I bet they would too. Brilliant idea.

Why do people call her markle?
never hear Kate called Middleton.
i don’t know Sophie’s surname

I haven’t noticed it much of this (Sophie was Rhys Jones before marriage by the way) but referring to a person by only their surname after the first mention is the norm under most style guides for writing - see Wikipedia’s for a current example of this (“After the initial mention, a person should generally be referred to by surname only”). So it’s not something that applies only to the Duchess of Sussex.

So... on the royal threads I can refer to Catherine, Princess of Wales as Middleton? Is that correct?

If Meghan, married to Harry is called Markle. And they are called Harkles?

What we do know factually is it’s always ever been about the ££££££.

If they stayed they wanted to make more
£££££.

They left and then complained they didn’t get any ££££££.

Then the sold their privacy, children, integrity for lots of ££££££.

According to you Grin

bakalava · 30/12/2022 20:43

I do not think that they did not get what they wanted. They never lost everything. It is a hybrid arrangement, not 50:50 of course. They seem angry about the balance but their 50:50 was really giving them all the pleasure for none of the pain.

Wait, I think you might be right. The poster might have been complaining that people were still referring to using her maiden name, Meghan Markle. Not just Markle.
So I aplogise for that.

Let me help you out again:

What we do know factually is it’s always ever been about the ££££££

If they stayed they wanted to make more
££££££ - according to H&M announcement Jan 2020

They left and then complained they didn’t get any ££££££ - according to PH on OW March 2021

Then the sold their privacy, children, integrity for lots of ££££££ - as seen by million Dec 2023

Roussette · 30/12/2022 20:49

How simplified and sarky of you.

Ohnonevermind · 30/12/2022 20:50

Why is it rude? We often refer to Kate Middleton, as well. They're their names after all. It's not like they're ashamed of them and I bet Meghan would use that name if she returned to acting.

The idea that I'd be insulted if someone used my maiden name is very weird to me.
