The royal family

Harry and Meghan - lies?

1000 replies

FurAndFeathers · 28/10/2022 19:51

Ok I’m keeping my fingers crossed this thread will not descend into an unsubstantiated bun fight! Please bear with me.

I’m definitely no Royalist, and am pretty ambivalent about H and M but from the little I’ve read they seem to have been treated pretty badly. However I keep seeing on other threads here that their claims have all be proven to be lies, which would make me much less sympathetic to them. But I can’t find any verification for this.

So I’m asking more knowledgeable posters - what lies specifically have H&M told and where’s the evidence to the contrary please?

thank you

For me, it was the whole BS of “we want our privacy” and now you can’t move for the amount of garbage they’re spewing on social media, TV, books, interviews… madness. I used to like Harry but I think he hides behind Meghan to do the things he wanted to do, such as step away from the royal family. I can’t stand the pair of them. If they really did move away from the UK to live a private life, then fair enough, but to keep coming back time and time again with new accusations, new ways to attack the queen and the family, it’s just screams of pettiness and jealousy. At least Kate M handles herself with grace and plays the game well!

Harry's always been a bit of a bad boy whilst Meg has her own traits she didn't make Harry's by any means.

Diverseopinions · 28/10/2022 21:13

Was the comment about her dad not paying her college fees an untruth? I thought that there was hard evidence of receipts for tuition paid by Mr Markle.

Instead of asking people for links, why don't you look it up yourself OP? If you are really interested?

Could you link to sources please? Thank you

Here you go: www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/meghan-markle-jason-knauf-finding-freedom-correspondence-letter-b965692.html

Contains the full text of Meghan's lengthy briefing notes. I'd forgotten that she specifically highlighted how her sister's children were from different fathers - in light of that I'd like to raise my previous description of Meghan as "unpleasant" to "vile".

Northernlurker · 28/10/2022 21:16

There's the whole proctor and gamble thing. Yes she wrote to them. Yes they changed their ad. Was that down to her? Nope. Feminists all over the US were flipping out about the campaign in question.

MariEllie · 28/10/2022 21:16

anything Harry and Meghan say has to be treated with the utmost pinch of salt. They are a full-scale insult to the intelligence. We have all suffered from our parents’ mistakes but most of us forgive (as we are mature enough to realise we ourselves are just equally fallible people like them) and move on. But the two of them are professional victims courtesy of Netflix and publishers. All for the benefit of the scandal gutter press. I don’t think you can get much lower than that

Because as explained in my OP I don’t know what the alleged lies are.

there are many more knowledgeable posters than me on this subject so it seems reasonable to ask them.

@FurAndFeathers yes, for me it’s the whole issue over privacy. The problem is, Meghan has chased fame her entire life and knew what to expect when she married Harry (again, another lie was that she said she didn’t know anything about the royal family, despite a video from her youth saying how much she loved the royals…). I think she wanted all of the glitz and glamour but didn’t realise that she wasn’t going to be the next princess Di. She wouldn’t be able to do whatever she wanted, when she wanted. She had to work and be seen and not be heard to make complaints (such as the bridesmaid dress debacle where she claims Kate made her cry but this was portrayed as the other way around in the media). I think she underestimated what it was like to be in the royal family and she wouldn’t / couldn’t make those sacrifices. The “stepping out of the royal family and into a private life” was just a load of balls so they could do whatever they wanted with their life, away from the queen and the firm.

Sorry are you saying the Bridesmaid dress crying thing was a lie too - I’d be really grateful for factual sources rather than just opinions if possible?
Thank you

Well there was the claim that her passport has been withheld from her - despite the publicised foreign trips, the NY baby shower, the holidays on Elton’s plane; all of which would have required her to show a passport .
a quick google of Meghan Lies brings up a number of press sources , such as news.com.au , which challenge some of her statements.
I believe she was treated horribly by some British press, but I also believe she is economical with her truth. But I don’t understand why it matters so much ?

i don’t really want this thread to descend into unsupported defamation which will just be deleted thanks 😊

No one here knows the truth of the “bridesmaid dress crying”. Like “Tiaragate” there are various different stories. Hope that helps!

Jaybird43 · 28/10/2022 21:22

@Realityloom yes I agree - Harry was the bad boy, but lovable and really couldn’t do anything wrong. His gran loved him, the public loved him - he was a cheeky rebel, and he got away with that persona. Then, when he was married to Meghan, stories swirled about him shouting to staff “what Meghan wants, Meghan gets!”. I think this is where his true colours come out. Harry has likely viewed himself as a “Spare” all of his life - he will never be king. He will always be in Will’s shadow. So, for him, following Meghan and doing all this interviews, books, Netflix shows, this is him saying “F U” to the monarchy, to his family. If they had left and lived their life in quiet privacy, then the hurt he caused his family wouldn’t have happened.

Thanks I’ll look into that.

it doesn’t matter so much. I’m simply interested - like any other OP who starts a thread I guess.

@FurAndFeathers check out the Oprah Winfrey interview - the topics I mentioned (bridesmaid dress saga, racist remarks, the whole strop from Harry regarding what Meghan wants, she gets) is all covered in that interview.

So true. But they are far too self absorbed to ever understand that.

Yes I’ve seen that interview.

I’m not sure how it shows them to be liars though as it doesn’t provide any alternate evidence.

I’ve certainly read racist press reports about Meghan (straight outta Compton 🙄) and seen photos of Princess Michael wearing the racist brooch and racism in the Royal family is reported more generally, so not sure there’s reasonable evidence that the racism is a lie?

Cherryblossoms85 · 28/10/2022 21:32

Just because my uncle whom I have met twice in my life was a bit of a racist, doesn't make me a racist. That's why there was almost no contact. I imagine Princess Michael could be a similar situation.

Jaybird43 · 28/10/2022 21:33

The thing is OP, the firm won’t retaliate to anything Meghan and Harry come out with, so it’s hard to separate rumour / fiction / perception from fact/reality. As per the firm’s statement after the Oprah Winfrey interview - “recollections may vary”. It would be hard to find something 100% concrete, everything will be opinion / hearsay / one sided. Piers Morgan, for instance, cannot stand Meghan and has written many columns regarding how awful she is. The flip side of this is Piers Morgan isn’t perhaps the nicest chap - so, would you believe what he says as the whole truth?

GarlicBreadItsTheFuture · 28/10/2022 21:36

So lazy, why would you expect everyone else to do the research for you? A little critical thinking will enable you to separate the facts from the opinions.

Prescottdanni123 · 28/10/2022 21:36

Meghan said that Archie and Lillibet weren't given prince and Princess titles because of race. This isn't the case. The great grandchildren of a king or queen can't have these titles unless they are in direct line to the throne, like George, Charlotte and Louis are.

Meghan said that her and Harry were married in secret in a garden before the royal wedding. The archbishop who supposedly married them has come out and said that this isn't true.

Meghan also said that a South Africa voice actor from the lion King told her that people in South Africa danced in the street like they did for Nelson Mandela on her wedding day. He has said that this is false and he never said this to her.

The last two are especially petty, and they do make you question everything else that is said by them.

But about what?

I believe your nephew too.

Prescottdanni123 · 28/10/2022 21:40

Here is the link about the archbishop. As he says himself, if he had signed a flase wedding certificate (which he didn't) then he would have committed a serious criminal offence.

I didn’t think it was that big a deal. People get stressed during weddings - it almost brings out the worst in people.
