Lord Mountbatten abuse allegations

uk.news.yahoo.com/abused-lord-mountbatten-claims-former-184401740.html

Andrew Lownie's joint bio 'The Mountbattens' quotes multiple accounts of Mountbatten abusing children and teenagers. One source is one of the Queen Mother's ladies-in-waiting, Lady Decies, who told the FBI that Mountbatten was thought of as a 'person of very low morals' with 'a perversion for young boys'. If Mr Smythe wins the case, would it damage the monarchy? Charles would have been too young to know about it while Mountbatten was alive, but it does put him and the others in an uncomfortable light now, especially since Prince William named Louis after Mountbatten.

If it’s true, it’s bloody depressing.
I don’t think KC should be blamed for Mountbatton doing bad stuff though. I am old and have only heard about it on mn.
disclaimer I’m not saying it’s not true, as I have no idea.
I do wonder how you prove something if the alleged perpetrator is dead.

AgathaMystery · 21/10/2022 22:05

Charles was 30 when his uncle died. How is that too young to know?

Winterscomingagain · 21/10/2022 22:26

I've huge sympathy with the man who's accusing Mountbatten of abusing him, his life story is horrendous. However, it's going to be very difficult to prove his case and I see absolutely no implications for King Charles.

Berrylina · 22/10/2022 01:28

This is one of the reasons I am against naming children after family members. That sweet boy will live under the shadow of an Oldman's crimes if found to be guilty

BlackberryCat · 22/10/2022 01:39

I didn’t actually know that Louis was named after Mountbatten.

I thought it was common knowledge that Mountbatten was a rapist and often raped the boys at Kincora. The whole thing was covered up, but if you Google Kincora Boys’ Home, there have been allegations of a sex abuse ring for years. It’s disgusting and shocking.

RJnomore1 · 22/10/2022 01:40

I don’t think the wee guy being named Louis counts.
I’m no fan of Waity Katie’s but but I don’t think think this is their issue.

our alleged monarch I suspect knows better about many things.

TooBigForMyBoots · 22/10/2022 01:42

I was about to.mention Kincora, but @BlackberryCat beat me to it. I remember my parents talking about it in the 70s & 80s.

Riverlee · 22/10/2022 01:49

Did the person wait until the Queen and Prince Philip passed away before launching his case?

i can’t quite see how you can prove anything after all this time. Louis Mcbatten isn’t alive to give evidence and/defend himself, and died over forty years ago.

BobLobIaw · 22/10/2022 01:54

I think Charles was abused too.
It's rife.

Cheekymaw · 22/10/2022 02:36

Thought it was quite well known that the uncle was a paedophile. It's only now that the alleged victim's names have been published. It's been covered up for years. There was also allegations that Mounbatten wanted to bring down the Wilson government via a military coup. He was an absolute bampot.

zen1 · 22/10/2022 02:44

I believe him. Rumours have been circulating about Mountbatten for decades. I bet we don’t know the half of it.

Agreed - it has been widely known for many years that he was assaulting boys specially brought to him from the Kincora Boys Home.

It didn’t make a blind difference then, and it won’t know.

ShippingNews · 22/10/2022 06:30

He e brought up Prince Philip from boyhood. The mind boggles.

Bramblejoos · 22/10/2022 07:30

Wasn't philip at Gordonstoun school and in Europe prior to that. And Mountbatten a naval captain during the war. Philip in the navy too. Mountbatten also head of combined operations during the war. I don't see him having much chance to dandle Philip on his knee.

No he didn't. As pp have said, Philip had a boyhood mostly at Gordonstoun.

CPL593H · 22/10/2022 07:39

If Mountbatten was an abuser (and I'm not saying he was or he wasn't because I don't know) it doesn't follow Philip or Charles would have been abused by him. There seems to be a certain modus operandi where children considered "unimportant", certainly marginalised and unlikely to be believed are the targets. All kept very far from their own doorsteps.

erikbloodaxe · 22/10/2022 07:57

Mountbatten introduced Savile into the royal inner circle in 1966. Charles and Savile were great friends often spending weekends together.

BlackberryCat · 22/10/2022 08:02

There have been multiple allegations made against Mountbatten by multiple people over the years, not just victims but staff and acquaintances too. All tell a similar story.

Savile was also a friend and confidante of Diana. That man groomed a nation.

Sorry, I got the dates wrong. I thought Charles was still quite young when he died. I'we seen posts on here before that mentioned it like it definitely happened - you kan newer be fully sure with no other witnesses but there are lots of different people, for all many areas of his life, who'we mentioned the abuse, and surely late justice, if the abuse did happen, is better than none?

Mr Smyth is suing the Department of Health, the secretary of state, the Police Service of Northern Ireland, Belfast Health and Social Care Trust and the Business Services Organisation (BSO). He isn't suing the Royal Family. There have been a lot of allegations that MI5 were aware of the abuse and used that information as leverage to extract information from people. The whole thing is rotten and deep-rooted. I really admire him for waiving anonymity and for pursuing this. I wish him the best of luck! It would be amazing if the truth finally came out.

Novella4 · 22/10/2022 13:16

Mountbatten rumours and associations have been circulating for decades . The FBI had a file on him.
Why has it all been suppressed for so very long is the question??
The trial will be closely watched.

The issue isn't even that Mountbatten did what he did but that he is added to list of 'unfortunate coincidences' linked to Charles:
Andrew
Peter Ball
Harris
Saville

Combine that with the interference in laws to protect his own interests and the money bags ..
How do royalists rationalise all this ?

Novella4 · 22/10/2022 13:16

@BlackberryCat I really admire him too.

BustyDisplay · 22/10/2022 13:24

Agree with other PPs - Mountbatten’s sexual attraction to young boys has been known about for years.
