Andrew Lownie's joint bio 'The Mountbattens' quotes multiple accounts of Mountbatten abusing children and teenagers. One source is one of the Queen Mother's ladies-in-waiting, Lady Decies, who told the FBI that Mountbatten was thought of as a 'person of very low morals' with 'a perversion for young boys'. If Mr Smythe wins the case, would it damage the monarchy? Charles would have been too young to know about it while Mountbatten was alive, but it does put him and the others in an uncomfortable light now, especially since Prince William named Louis after Mountbatten.

The disturbing fact is ,Andrew remains a counsellor of state and can take Charles' place if the latter is incapacitated.

I heard about Lord Mountbatten years ago. A car that he used to own was coming up in a car auction, and some posh old bloke commented that he'd never buy a car owned by Dickie, and what an awful peodo he was.

On reading Gyles Brandreth's book on Philip, obviously the accuracy is debatable given his friend and arch royalist status, but it was interesting that in it Philip claimed that he hadn't been closer to 'Dickie' than to his other uncle, and that his grandmother had more of an influence than Dickie had. The book was published before the court case came out, but of course it could still have been damage limitation given that they likely to resurface at some point.

If you read Lownie's book, it's clear from Mountbatten's letters and comments that his actual parapsychosis was women in tall boots, preferably riding boots. There are some ridiculous extrapolations on this thread, but hey! don't let facts get in your way.

Well, I know Andrew Lownie and I know he'd have loved to have dished as much dirt as possible. He looked but didn't find and he's an ethical enough historian not to write stuff if the evidence isn't there. He used what was provable in the book, but never found any concrete evidence. And he was thorough and had a lot of access. I'll stick with what he believes.

Personally, when I read Lownie's book, I interpreted his thanks to 'Sean' and 'Amal' at the end for their bravery in coming forward, and his statement that Nield didn't seem to have a plausible reason to invent in such detail, as implying that they could possibly be telling the truth. Not that they definitely were. He also quoted Anthony Daly, who is generally believed to be truthful, but Daly's knowledge of Lord M was from a client who was possibly lying. And was Lady Decies lying? The FBI said she seemed to have no reason to be, although they themselves have been very mistaken before, as pps have pointed out.

Does anyone know when there will be a verdict on the case in Belfast ?
I have googled yesterday but nothing up to date, just mentioning that the case was coming up.

The most sickening of it all, it's how naturalized this kind of abuse was. From Saville to Andrew to lord mountbatten, Epstein, Ghislaine and many, many others....that's not a coincidence.

I’m also convinced the King knows exactly what is going on with these people.
