Andrew Lownie's joint bio 'The Mountbattens' quotes multiple accounts of Mountbatten abusing children and teenagers. One source is one of the Queen Mother's ladies-in-waiting, Lady Decies, who told the FBI that Mountbatten was thought of as a 'person of very low morals' with 'a perversion for young boys'. If Mr Smythe wins the case, would it damage the monarchy? Charles would have been too young to know about it while Mountbatten was alive, but it does put him and the others in an uncomfortable light now, especially since Prince William named Louis after Mountbatten.

It's a name in the Spencer family too. The current Viscount Althorp (William's cousin) is Louis.

Honestly I’m beginning to wonder about the lot of them. Mountbatten’s perversions are well known. But then there’s Andrew. Has anyone seen that footage of a naked young man escaping out of a window at Buckingham Palace? I try not to think about these things though, it’s too dark for me.

Louis is a family name. Phillip’s grandfather was a Louis.

Why would I? Doesn't alter the fact that he was Prince Philip's guardian not Louis Mountbatten as people were asserting.

Louis is a family name. Phillip’s grandfather was a Louis. It’s also one of William’s middle names. Whilst I assume that William probably WAS named for Lord Mountbatten, I find it more likely that Louis (and George) have that name because it’s a family name.

Of course - lots of 'coincidences' adding up .

I feel sorry for Nada Milford Haven - she liked her husband, but was probably lesbian, not bisexual, and married at least partly, to avoid scandal. She suffered a lot of nasty gossip and involvement in a court case when her affair with Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt (Little Gloria's mother) was publicised. (She was also possibly Edwina's lover, as per Lownie).
Similarly, Edwina's perjury was wrong, when she denied knowing Paul Robeson and sued a magazine that claimed he was her lover, especially as they were both married , but it is understandable, if not excusable, that she wanted to avoid the racism-fuelled unpleasantness that would have resulted if she'd told the truth. (Mountbatten did have a long-term mistress himself by then, although he was upset by her affairs - Edwina seems to have had some feelings for her husband and did help his career - arguably through nepotism)

On whether Louis was named for Mountbatten, the Daily Telegraph says he was.

@beatrice14 I can’t read the article because it’s behind a pay wall. Do they have Kensington Palace or official sources to confirm that he was named after Louis Mountbatten or are they just supposing like the rest of us?

Interesting thread. With allegations like this and the whole ridiculous Megan Markle going ons, how long will the RF last? 10 years ago it seemed unimaginable not to have a RF but now the idea has reached many more people though social media. The pomp and privilege Andrew, the Oprah interview and the allegations on this thread. It feels like the UK as we know is disintegrating, especially since the Brexit referendum. I just hope that at least Boris won't be PM again. FWIW

Oh dear - I didn't realise it was really horrible. I checked the bio 'Young Prince Philip' and found that George and Nada took their 17-year-old son to brothel to 'round off his education'. All disturbing..

The accusations have been swirling round Mountbatten for years . The court case will determine what is gossip and what it truth
