Lord Mountbatten abuse allegations

Andrew Lownie's joint bio 'The Mountbattens' quotes multiple accounts of Mountbatten abusing children and teenagers. One source is one of the Queen Mother's ladies-in-waiting, Lady Decies, who told the FBI that Mountbatten was thought of as a 'person of very low morals' with 'a perversion for young boys'. If Mr Smythe wins the case, would it damage the monarchy? Charles would have been too young to know about it while Mountbatten was alive, but it does put him and the others in an uncomfortable light now, especially since Prince William named Louis after Mountbatten.

Ive just googled there doesnt seem to be any references to it since Oct 22

Legal action was "launched" but it looks to be just that, no evidence and no case. Probably just to drive publicity. You have to be careful with these very old accusations, Leon Brittan for example.

One of my grandfathers was an Indian Army officer. The predelictions of Mountbatten were notorious. He was a byword for 'low morals' as Lady Decies put it.

None of this was unknown. It is unthinkable that the RF knew nothing. Philip was his protégé, so he was untouchable, and his habits were accepted as normal by a class who had all been packed off to prep and boarding schools (from homes where contact with parents was minimal, and all day to day raising of children was done by nursery maids).

Sexual exploitation of younger and less powerful fellow students by older students and masters alike in elite boarding schools was part of introduction to the life of the ruling class back in the day.

And I know we've rehearsed these arguments many times @MaulPerton but again it is not legitimate to draw a comparison between politicans and the monarchy .
Politicans are voted out

And they remain in or return to the bosom.of the Establishment, with their status enhanced by their stint in Parliament, and they can use their contacts as currency.

Yes, it's highly unlikely the RF knew nothing. Horrible. For me it taints everyone until William's generation , though arguably they too may well be complicit in coverup

. And why oh why did they agree to name the younger prince after him? Poor boy.

Andrew Lownie said on Andrew Gold's podcast that he is preparing a documentary on the abuse allegations. There was a lot of extra material that couldn't go in the book apparently.

On the other hand maybe the allegations aren't true or the RF believe they are untrue.

There has been a cover up, the extent of the cover up and any crimes committed have yet to be determined. It appears that FBI has testimonies of many girls, flight logs, witnesses but really did not act. In the UK the protection unit were always with AMW, the allegations and issues were known about many years ago. Women were trafficked into Royal Residences. Like any other abuse scandal, and I have seen this for myself, girls/women are not believed, even when a large amount of evidence is there. The truth comes out in the end, usually when the perpetrators are too old to really punish.

Moving home has given him a great opportunity to ‘lose’ a lot of old photos and videos.
