Lord Mountbatten abuse allegations

uk.news.yahoo.com/abused-lord-mountbatten-claims-former-184401740.html

Andrew Lownie's joint bio 'The Mountbattens' quotes multiple accounts of Mountbatten abusing children and teenagers. One source is one of the Queen Mother's ladies-in-waiting, Lady Decies, who told the FBI that Mountbatten was thought of as a 'person of very low morals' with 'a perversion for young boys'. If Mr Smythe wins the case, would it damage the monarchy? Charles would have been too young to know about it while Mountbatten was alive, but it does put him and the others in an uncomfortable light now, especially since Prince William named Louis after Mountbatten.

See also Charles’s ‘guru’, Laurens Van der Post who fathered a child with a 14 year old girl.

Did the person wait until the Queen and Prince Philip passed away before launching his case?

i can’t quite see how you can prove anything after all this time. Louis Mcbatten isn’t alive to give evidence and/defend himself, and died over forty years ago.

Plenty can be proved in court

Novella4 · 22/10/2022 13:32

@BustyDisplay
Yes I just remembered.
Good god !
Is that the end of the list ?

At last, this is going mainstream! For years and years I've read stuff on the internet about the boys homes and not just involving royalty but politicians too.

Imo Tom Watson was set up by a sting operation to 'look over here' to distract and deflect so the general public won't believe the truth even when it's staring them in the face.

Bideshi · 22/10/2022 13:49

I have known Andrew Lownie (slightly) for 30 years and he is a meticulous and measured biographer. If you read the book it reveals many squalid things about both the Mountbattens who were both pretty despicable, but he comes to no conclusion about these particular rumours. Despite much research, any concrete evidence is lacking. The FBI was going through a bonkers conspiracy phase and had theories about many people; some were justified but many were absurd. Some people had scores to settle or fires to fuel.
Mountbatten was a naval man who idolised the navy. There was a cult of homosexuality in the RN: it's been known as 'rum, bum and concertina' or (in Churchill's phrase 'Rum, buggery and the lash.' There was generally an area of most WW2 ships known as 'Rose Cottage' and, of course, boys often came into the navy as 13 year old cadets or 16 year old midshipmen. It wouldn't surprise me if Mountbatten shared this mindset; in later laid he certainly often made favourites of young (not underage though) naval ratings. On the other hand, he doesn't seem to have been that enamoured of the physicality of sex. Incidentally similar things were said about Montgomery.
Most of us don't share our sexual proclivities with younger members of our family and I really can't see why Charles would have known what (if anything) was going
on. I suspect that as another devoted naval man, Prince Philip would certainly have heard rumours, but, of course, 'Uncle Dickie' was like a father to him.
Jimmy Savile traduced many establishment members, not only Charles and Diana, but Mrs Thatcher and others who one would have expected to have known better. With hindsight it seems incredible, but people who were not very worldly might well have mistaken sleaze bagginess for salt-of-the-earth zaniness. It was a very odd phenomenon and Savile knew just how to play it.

Just a few thoughts. Like A Lownie, no conclusions.

I took someone to court for historical abuse , I got to give my evidence and was cross examined. A few days later we were told that it was 'an abuse of process' because the accused didn't have any witnesses that were still alive and the case was dismissed.
It's not impossible for these historic cases to be 'won' but it's very difficult.

AdriannaP · 22/10/2022 13:58

George has Louis as one of his middle names. I don’t think they named the sons after Mountbatten (who was known as Dickie and died before PW was born), they just have limited choice of approved names they can chose from.

VioletLemon · 22/10/2022 13:59

Rumour has it this was how Saville had so much access to Royals, he was the procure for MB and Edward Heath, dark stories about missing boys from Kincora and out on Heaths boat. Doesn't mean KC had anything to do with that.

He e brought up Prince Philip from boyhood. The mind boggles.

It was the older brother - George Mountbatten Lord Milford Haven who was Prince Philips guardian till he was 16. Only after that brothers/Uncle death did Louis Mountbatten take parental responsibility.

He seems to have spent most of his time at school and then passed between various relatives.

The rumours about Louis Mountbatten - are well known - no idea what the truth is or isn't. I'm not sure how it would impact on Charles III reign - but there's more than one ancestor/relative with Louis as a name so I think impact there would be minimal.

Novella4 · 22/10/2022 14:44

There will be impact but it will have little to do with names

Novella4 · 22/10/2022 14:46

On an earlier thread I had ( royal supporting ) posters who either had no idea re Mountbatten / Peter ball etc or who dismissed it all as rumour

I applaud the bravery of the man taking this to court

BadgerB · 22/10/2022 15:11

The story at the time was that Mountbatten was the chief instigator of not allowing Charles to marry Camilla Shand. He must marry a virgin - and she wasn't.
He did lots of damage alive, and now when dead. But I don't think he would have touched "important" youngsters, and definitely not in the Royal family which he so much revered.

DullAndOvercast · 22/10/2022 15:23

I thought Mountbatten was keen for Prince Charles to marry a granddaughter of his so I;d not be at all surprised he'd see Camilla Shand off.

I'm sure there's even press articles suggest Prince Charles got as far as proposing after Mountbatten murder - though no idea if there's any truth to that bit of story.

Yes, according to Amanda Knatchbull (the granddaughter) he did propose. However, by that time she'd lost members of her family in the attack (I think a brother?) and she changed her mind.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 22/10/2022 15:34

Charles won’t care unless it affects him. Google Peter Ball and lots of his other friends.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 22/10/2022 15:38

Here we go again. Has Carl Beech got out of prison yet? Do the Met want to hand out another million pounds to the falsely accused as in Operation Midland?

TRA la la….

Pugalicious · 22/10/2022 15:39

I think they are all depraved and should be disbanded. Charles being the worst of them all should not be King, but then again, none of them should.

Novella4 · 22/10/2022 15:45

100 agree

They will no doubt attempt to portray Mountbatten as a peripheral figure as a result of this court case . He's anything but.

Pugalicious · 22/10/2022 15:52

Given what we all know as fact about JS and then what we know of his friendship with Charles and the rest, surely they do not have a leg to stand on.
The Royal family were people we looked to in times of war and trouble. These days all we see and hear is scandal after scandal after scandal.

This is only my theory but I feel Andrew was thrown under the bus by Charles who has influencial friends, not that I don't think Andrew is getting what he deserves, but Charles seems to get away with murder.
Quite honestly they all disgust me and I think Harry did the right thing in escaping from them.

Well, we do know that boys were raped at Kincora Boys' home. Three people were convicted of offenses. We do know that Arthur Smyth was a resident at the home during that time. What he is complaining about is that those in authority did nothing to prevent these rapes from happening. In the same way that many people in positions of authority knew exactly what kind of person Jimmy Saville was and did absolutely nothing to protect his victims.

I don't really know what Arthur Smyth would have to gain by throwing Mountbatten's name out there. 🤷🏼‍♀️

DuchessofAnkh99 · 22/10/2022 16:21

Publicity, and chance of a bigger settlement to compensate.

The problem you have is that it is nigh on impossible to defend or prove these allegations now.

Well, I guess that is for the court to decide. I will be watching with interest.

Novella4 · 22/10/2022 16:58

@Pugalicious
I've heard that theory too.
There is a logic to it .

You've taken all that at face value. Stinks to me. And stops people ever dare asking questions. I'd put good money on Beech being a stooge. Good result.
