The next series will be starting on the 9th of November. Imelda Staunton will be playing the Queen. Tobias Menzies is playing Philip.

Historical events we’re likely to see in season 5 of The Crown:
Prince Andrew’s divorce
Princess Anne’s divorce
Windsor Castle fire
The separation/divorce of Prince Charles and Lady Diana
The Queen sues The Sun newspaper
The death of Princess Diana
Tony Blair becomes Prime Minister

Interesting @DeadBod. Season 6 should cover the deaths of the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret so maybe there will be flashbacks to them during WWII.

I think you are probably right. After the last season, which was still good but not as good as the first three seasons, I think the crown may be better when it’s placed further in the past. Season 4 was not as interesting time for me because I remember those times and it’s harder to suspend disbelief. Hence, they may use going back in time more.

On these threads a whole lot of people try and blame Diana's family and not Charles. He was the one marrying her. He should have realised it was totally inappropriate.

Of course he should. But so should Diana's parents, grandmother and stepmother. Her father and stepmother seemed positively delighted about the whole thing.
It should have been nipped in the bud very quickly by her family.

I’ve enjoyed series 4 even though I also lived through it. I wasn’t that interested in the royal family at the time though of course knew about the big things like weddings and do remember the avalanche that killed Charles’s friend. I find it interesting to see those things again plus the fictional side of it adding flesh to the bones of a story. I started re watching the whole series from the start when the Queen died so I’m looking forward to series 5.

I think you have articulated why I struggle so much with the more recent series. It does annoy me though that so many people act like it’s a documentary not fiction based on history. I can’t believe how many people are unable to understand that events, conversations and even characters are invented for brevity, entertainment or to make a point.
