The next series will be starting on the 9th of November. Imelda Staunton will be playing the Queen. Tobias Menzies is playing Philip.

Historical events we’re likely to see in season 5 of The Crown:
Prince Andrew’s divorce
Princess Anne’s divorce
Windsor Castle fire
The separation/divorce of Prince Charles and Lady Diana
The Queen sues The Sun newspaper
The death of Princess Diana
Tony Blair becomes Prime Minister

Who will be watching it?

I enjoyed The Crown, it’s entertainment not a documentary. I guess that as it’s getting further into present day and dealing with people who are still alive it probably needs to have a disclaimer on at the start because some people are daft enough to think it’s real. Same idea when people abuse Eastenders actors etc in public and think they are their characters.

antelopevalley · 20/10/2022 14:52

Charles criticised publicly the Queen's parenting. If they have not included that, then yes they are being much kinder than they could have been.

Lots of excerpts and reports - no interview in full.
Just like the Queens State Funeral, an approved much reduced version put out rather than the real thing.

Was it not that they removed scenes where members of the RF ( eg Charlotte) were clearly distressed ? Just like the time Lady Louise’s dress blew up at Eugenie’s wedding ?
Nothing sinister about it .

antelopevalley · 20/10/2022 14:58

Scene of George picking his nose, Beatrice and Eugenie leaving early, Mike Tindall looking at his watch. They cleaned it up to make it look perfect and told BBC they had to select scenes they wanted to show in future, get palace approval and that would be it forever. They can never show the whole funeral again.

What value would those examples add to the programme ?

That's fairly silly logic to be fair.

Each series of 10 episodes covers about a decade in the often very eventful lives of several people. Obviously, they can only cover a fraction of that. Also, given that you seem to be the only person here who 'heard' Charles saying what you claimed above, maybe Morgan didn't hear it either? Not that he hesitates to make stuff up when it suits him.

Judi Dench is friends with Charles and Camilla. So friend denounces TV series. So what?

I have never ever heard that Judi Dench is friends with them.

Gilmorehill · 20/10/2022 16:18

I’m not going to be drawn into personal arguments but I feel some posters are making things up. It makes any form of discussion difficult and tedious.

antelopevalley · 20/10/2022 16:25

They have been friends with Judi Dench for a long time. The trashier sites had in the past alleged Charles and Judi's friendship caused issues with Camilla.

Am I the only one who follows Royal stories? Because I often get this on this board. Utter disbelief at pretty well-known facts.

And Judi Dench got a lot of criticism on Twitter given she has acted in films that hinted Queen Victoria had an affair, or certainly a very close relationship. Apparently, that is fine, but anything involving her friends is not.

@IcedPurple You think it is scandalous that apparently the series has the Queen musing on her mothering due to the amount of divorces. I say it is a kind portrayal when one of her sons publicly criticised her mothering pretty harshly.

Where did I say this was 'scandalous'? Where did I even mention this story line at all?

I know you 'look at the evidence' and hate it when people wrongly attribute ideas to you, so could you answer the above question please? And while you're at it, can you tell us when you 'heard' what you claimed Charles said? Instead of constantly shifting the goalposts when you can't back up your own claims.

New trailer.

At the end of the day, it’s just a soap opera with more expensive scripts and costumes.

Its beautifully made I'll give them that, all very Hollywood blockbuster with dramatic booming music . Diana isn't as good as the last one, they should've maybe used the previous one, her impersonation was much more convincing.

To use the Panorama interview when both her sons have condemned it would seem crass even by Morgan's tabloidesque standards.

Ohnonevermind · 20/10/2022 17:13

@LookingAtYou

radio silence from Harry. He must be tapping up a storm

Emma Corrin was very good but I don't think they could have aged her up convincingly. I think Elizabeth Debicky will be OK, and she's certainly tall enough!

Maybe it's because I'm aware of his real life smarmy personality, but I think Dominick West is a bit 'alpha male' to play Charles. And I guess that's the problem I mentioned earlier, about the problems of casting high profile factors in the role of very famous living people. Your perceptions 'clash' too much.

It does seem they'll be heavily playing up the 'Diana as victim' stance. Again.

Spotlite · 20/10/2022 17:18

Quire irrelevant I know, but I’ve never been able to stand Judi Dench since someone I was very close to was in a relationship with her daughter years ago. IMO JD has an over flared sense of self-importance and lives in a bubble quite unaffected by the realities of life.

She used her connections to try and get her daughter a much lenient sentence for a drunk driving offence years ago that involved children in both cars and the driver of the other car being hurt. Eg Sir Cameron Mackintosh gave evidence.

In short, I'm not surprised to hear that Judi Dench is friends with Charles and I’m even less surprised to hear that Judi Dench has been hypocritical by condemning the series.

From the same rag

I love the Tracy Ullman sketches about Judy Dench

LookingAtYou · 20/10/2022 17:23

Loved how they shoehorned in Diana whispering 'you mean silent'. Bet that'll get whoops of approval from Scobie and the Sussex camp.

antelopevalley · 20/10/2022 17:29

@derxa I know it is a rag that talks rubbish. But there are loads of articles that mention Judi Dench is a friend of the Royals.
This is fairly common knowledge if you read Royal sites. And honestly, I get tired of being asked to post links to fairly mundane common knowledge amongst those who read about the Royal Family. Read Levins's book about Camilla where it is clear she is a friend. She went to Charles's private 60th birthday party.
Of you want an article headlined Judi Dench is friends with Camilla and Charles you won't get it, as frankly it is fairly boring knowledge.

She's downright evil. I heard she drowns kittens for a hobby.
