Who will be watching it?

Netflix stood their ground. They are not rattled. They are not putting in any disclaimer

They have put a disclaimer on the trailer

Novella4 · 23/10/2022 13:13

Really?
I read it was in the description box of the trailer on YouTube

smilesy · 23/10/2022 13:14

Here is a link

Its on BBC news as well

Inspired by real events, this fictional dramatisation tells the story of Queen Elizabeth II and the political and personal events that shaped her reign."

Is it this?

That is no different than we've always known it to be . Political and personal events mean facts.
Dramatisation because apart from tampongate ( cringe) we don't have verbatim

So everyone's happy.
Can't wait

notanotheroneagain · 23/10/2022 14:25

Every drama based on what happened on Netflix says 'inspired by real events'. Nothing new there. They do it all the time.

As I said, they did it with Dahmer.

Duh, we can see it. It's actors, not the actual people on the screen. They are not going any further than that.

smilesy · 23/10/2022 14:43

Unfortunately, as has already been said, not everyone can actually see that the events are fictitious. Otherwise, no one would have a problem

Novella4 · 23/10/2022 17:31

The events aren't fictitious .
Netflix themselves make that clear .

Conversations ( mostly) have to be .

Some of the events are fictitious. And sadly, some people seem unable to differentiate between dramatic licence and fact.

smilesy · 23/10/2022 19:03

It’s problematic anyway even if the events are
not fictitious but the conversations are. If the dialogue is completely invented, we have the situation where Major and Charles actually talked about, say, the weather irl, but The Crown portrays this as a conversation about the Queen being a crap mother. It puts a rather different spin on things.

Novella4 · 23/10/2022 19:22

I'm sure the royals are too secure in their position to take a tv drama under their notice .
Aren't you ?

Novella4 · 23/10/2022 19:27

And the facts remain - esp the treatment of Diana .

Nothing to be done about that .

I guess the royals would like everyone to accept their version of events . Hmm - recollections may differ ...

I’m just pointing out the reason why fiction can still give a false sense of what happened to those who don’t necessarily see the distinction between a fictitious drama and a programme that is a true record of what was actually said at the time. No need for the slightly passive aggressive tone. You do seem rather fond of using that, Novella 🤷‍♀️

FayeGovan · 23/10/2022 21:03

The treatment of diana was really quite heartbreaking. I dont know how the boys can be nice to camilla but i guess everyone moves on.

Rhondaa · 23/10/2022 21:23

'The treatment of diana was really quite heartbreaking'

Her sisters should've looked out for her and stopped the whole circus before they'd even had a first date. Her family must've known she was so vulnerable, like a lamb to the slaughter media and scrutiny wise. Have any of her family spoken publicly with regret for not advising either parties that it would be a disaster?

derxa · 23/10/2022 21:44

A propos of nothing. No actress ever captures Diana's charisma and beauty. They all look ridiculous and wooden

Did Diana’s sister Sarah not try to warn her but Diana thought she was jealous ?

antelopevalley · 23/10/2022 22:57

On these threads a whole lot of people try and blame Diana's family and not Charles. He was the one marrying her. He should have realised it was totally inappropriate.

They do what they always did and claim she was mad and difficult. So it was all her fault.

We will after the series get the usual flurry of articles about what is true and what is not. Every other series the awful things are always true.

Like what?

DeadBod · 26/10/2022 12:12

They've been filming The Crown for the last 3 days near my home town. The scenery is set in the 1940's so I'm presuming that there may be some flash back scenes at some point, maybe series 6?

AnnunciataZ · 26/10/2022 12:20

Interesting @DeadBod. Season 6 should cover the deaths of the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret so maybe there will be flashbacks to them during WWII.

WhatICallMyUsername · 26/10/2022 17:38

@DeadBod I think I've seen your username before and wondered if you lived in or near Hull 🤣 (I am Cottingham)
