Who will be watching it?

According to Tracy Ullman’s show - Judy Dench flings her dog poop bags into park bushes and shoplifts bottles of gin - so it must be true 😉

@Spotlite It is irrelevant to this discussion, but I agree she does not seem a nice person.

Judi Dench seems to be very well liked and respected in the business. Where do you get the impression she's not a nice person?

Abra1t · 20/10/2022 20:49

Even Netflix agree it’s fictionalised;

The Netflix trailer, released on Thursday, is accompanied by a message describing how it is “inspired by real events” but a “fictional dramatisation".

Should say 'full of clunky impersonations and with unpleasant controversial crap thrown in cos we hate the rf'.

Dame Judi's husband died early of lung cancer.

She always strikes me as sharp and a bit sneery.
But you do know nobody is liked by everyone? That is normal.

Yes but if you're going to state, on a public forum, that someone strikes you as not a nice person, you should be able to back that up.
Which you haven't.

Can you remember anything specific which Judi Dench has said to make you think that she is 'a bit sneery'?

She said publicly something vaguely supportive about the Royal Family.

JanetSally · 21/10/2022 19:40

How is that sneery?

antelopevalley · 21/10/2022 19:50

I am not talking about her talking about the Royal Family or The Crown.

Why should I be able to back it up?
Plenty of people say things like - Camilla seems a lovely woman. No one asks them to back it up.

You're posting something negative and unpleasant about someone on a public forum. Do you not think doing so without providing any reason is a bit unfair on that individual?

Ohnonevermind · 22/10/2022 08:38

I do wonder about the viewing numbers for the new series as most people seem rather lukewarm by now about the show.

Readinginthesun · 22/10/2022 09:37

Philip was in Argentina at the time of the Windsor fire ! @antelopevalley thoughts ?

I don't think you can assume that. Netflix's audience is more than just a few disgruntled posters on Mumsnet and the series is one of the jewels in, pardon the pun, their crown! In fact the further the tabloids kick off about it, the more people are likely to want to see what all the fuss is about.

Its just utterly cringeworthy. Haven't these well known actors and actresses any standards at all. Even if he'd been here as if they've have 'held each other' in the ashes of Windsor.

Morestrangethings · 22/10/2022 11:09

Yes Annunciata.

I agree with you.

personally, I’m really looking forward to it. I loved all of the first 3 seasons, & parts of the 4th season.

I think the casts are really excellent actors and have really enjoyed watching all of them. Even, maybe especially, the actor playing Charles. That hunched over back he adopted (Charles stands very straight in reality) - it gave the character a touch of a Richard the 3rd persona, I thought.

Of course it’s not real. I think by far and away most people understand it’s drama - not real. I think tabloids banging on about how it’s made up but presented as real, are underestimating the intelligence of the viewing public. Yes, some events did happen - deaths, coronation, funerals, tours overseas etc. but dates and events were often conflated for dramatic purposes.

And the wardrobes, especially the Queens wardrobe, has been wonderful. Her hats - the one for Charles’ investiture as PoW in Wales in season 2, and that bright pink one with pink bobbles a bit like corks hanging off it, seen from the back as she proceeded Margaret into a reception room on season 3 - so wonderful to see the replicas of the hats being actually worn and in motion, not like the still images we’ve seen of them. And the character of Diana in her somewhat daggy clothes before she upped her dressing game - was also fun to watch.

Its just wonderful fun pretend with a little bit of history thrown in, imo. I’ve watched it all twice. Except for the episode of Aberfan - what happened in that town was so very tragic and heartbreaking. I could only watch that once.

Lukewarm interest ?

Tell that to Charles . He is very exercised by the fact that people are being reminded of events he'd much rather they forgot
