Anyone else think The Times should not be printing extracts from this new book about Royal Courtiers at this time? Incredibly stupid given that H&M are trying to mend fences? I feel really quite cross for everyone involved - William's efforts to build bridges etc, all going to be in vain now. Very naughty.

Are they trying to mend fences ? I haven’t seen any evidence .
I am very critical of H and M’s behaviour however the onslaught of negative articles is starting to make me a bit uncomfortable and I have surprised myself.
Publishing dates are decided months in advance so I doubt that VL had a choice .

I read that and assumed it was another PR piece from Kensington Palace's new PR team. There has been an extensive series of "fragrant, saintly Cambridges" and "evil foreign harpy" pieces pubished this year. I'd rather have actual news for my sub.

There is zero evidence that the billionaire Wales' have the slightest interest in building bridges with the Sussexes. The York girls might but not the Cambridges.

dogmandu · 24/09/2022 13:40

The truth needs out. For too long the goings on in the royal family have been kept under wraps.
Any healing can only be meaningfully done after all the facts are known.

StormzyinaTCup · 24/09/2022 13:40

The timing is off and it would have been nice if, since the Queen passed away, we could at least have a couple of weeks of nothing Royal being reported from any quarter. That being said I have no idea how publishing and book promotion work, would The Times have entered into an exclusivity/legally binding contract to publicise the book?

I thought William had invited them to that thing at Windsor where they looked at the flowers etc? And why mention the Waleses being billionaires? What has their financial status got to do with it? All the RF are stonkingly rich compared to us common people so it's irrelevant.

I’m not surprised it’s being released now to counter the Meghan has been badly wronged stories. She sounds like an awful person to work for despite her carefully cultivated public image. I wonder if deep down Harry regrets marrying her yet.

HouseProud22 · 24/09/2022 13:54

I think it’s a good thing that the emails and text messages from that time are now coming out. They can’t be denied or swept under the table.

friendlycat · 24/09/2022 14:08

I think the timing is very distasteful. The Telegraph are also going to be printing extracts from the book “Camilla”.

At the end of the day it could all be fanciful exaggeration loosely based on facts that are embellished. Or it could be factually correct. But how is anybody really to know as I thought those that actually work for the RF sign NDAs.

The Andrew Morton book at least was factual as Diana gave him all the inside information to enable him to write the ruddy thing.

Then of course we have Harry’s forthcoming book to be released at some point!

Of course the tabloids will pick up and run their own content based on the extracts published. Not exactly respectful when a state funeral has only just been held. But such is life.

BlueRidge · 24/09/2022 14:08

I have seen ZERO evidence of Harry & Meghan trying to mend bridges - the opposite, in fact.

"Any healing can only be meaningfully done after all the facts are known." How on earth would the general public reading all the supposed/alleged "facts" aid healing? This should all be being dealt with behind closed doors. I don't need (or want) to know.

MiceInTgeHouse · 24/09/2022 14:10

I'm so conflicted. I had begun to feel a bit sorry for H&M but now this. Timing is dreadful.

BlueRidge · 24/09/2022 14:10

"The Andrew Morton book at least was factual as Diana gave him all the inside information to enable him to write the ruddy thing."

We didn't know that at the time. It was widely derided then as being lies and made-up nonsense, rather as a lot of the tales about Megzit are now. I suppose that only time will tell how much of what we read today turns out to be true.

This. It is absurd that people think that they have a right to know what is going on behind closed doors, with this family. I honestly could not give a fig. Maybe some people should spend less time concerning themselves with the shenanigans of the Royal family.

waffless · 24/09/2022 14:21

Just stop Clicking on articles about M&H and they will disappear.

I think the general public need to know the kind of people we're paying for and what kind of shenanigans they're up to if any.

These are important criteria in deciding whether want to continue with this system or go for a republic.
I also think the entitled attitude of some of them is completely alien to our values these days. We need to know which of them thinks they are better than everybody else and can just treat ordinary people like utter shitty.

cabansunset · 24/09/2022 14:32

I don't think they're trying to mend fences, things seem to be worse than ever. Now that the Queen is dead, as soon as the official predetermined mourning period is over I think it'll be 'gloves off' for the Harkles, first with the release of Harry's first book and then more podcasts and interviews and their Netflix documentary.

Unless of course Charles can buy their silence with titles for their children...but then how will they make their millions?

"I think the general public need to know the kind of people we're paying for and what kind of shenanigans they're up to if any."

Unless it's Harry & Meghan, of course, in which case it's all lies and made up to make them look bad.

HannaHanna · 24/09/2022 14:43

“Any healing can only be meaningfully done after all the facts are known."

Who said this and when?

LondonWolf · 24/09/2022 14:46

I think H&M were relatively safe while QE was alive, I think she wouldn't allow them to be briefed against because she loved Harry and probably at her age may not have understood quite how the nonsense they spout could be intensely damaging in this current age of SM mobs. I think William in particular well understands what's at stake and the gloves are coming off. Interesting times.

DewinDwl · 24/09/2022 14:47

Was it stupid of TheTimes? It worked... I bought the paper version just to read the goss. OP you seem invested and as if you have access to PW and H&M's plans and motivations. Do tell.

I think he's completely obsessed with her and terrified she will leave him.

garlicears · 24/09/2022 14:52

I agree. I've read the Times for many years and am disgusted it is sinking into tabloid gutter press territory.

It’s linked with a share token on the thread about why H&M are less important now. Also in this section

Surely the whole point of a hereditary system is we don’t need to know because we are stuck with them whether they’re good or bad people? And we don’t need to know anything about Meghan and Harry because they’re safely far back in the succession now K & W have a nice big family.

cyclamenqueen · 24/09/2022 15:07

Valentine Low writes for at he Times so I’m not surprised it’s being serialised there and actually I think now is the time. It reads pretty well , not especially gossipy , definitely not like the vile opinion articles about them in the tabloids. As a previous poster says, it has a lot of ‘on the record’ quotes with named sources who are not the usual type of people who would be prepared to go on the record, they must feel very confident.
