It feels like we're being slowly prepared for her passing away. I feel unexpectedly tearful.

Someone on here who is reliable said she had bone cancer.

What sticks in my craw is the BBC coverage cancelling bargain hunt. When they've kneed them in the groin for many years media wise

ArtyChoc · 08/09/2022 13:34

Without sounding too glib, I’d like her to hang on so the children can at least get a full week in at school.

antelopevalley · 08/09/2022 13:34

I do think her age makes it less sad. It is always tough if children lose their mother at an early age. She is a great-grandmother and has been around for her own children to grow up and become old themselves. Of course, it is always difficult when your mother dies. But it is different.

Carrotzen · 08/09/2022 13:34

She's 96, she's lived a long, very full life. I think we should leave her in peace now. I'm no royalist but it feels very goulish to be sitting here waiting for for woman we don't know to die, turning on sky news to wait for the announcement.

I think 96 is a good age, I can't be sad about someone dying at 96 in their home, with their children.

emmathedilemma · 08/09/2022 13:35

I'm thinking more like end of the week @Brendabigbaps ! i've just put ITV lunchtime news on and whoever the correspondent is said "this is clearly a very serious situation" if William has gone up.

Cancelling Bargain Hunt - not that particular programme, but just normal programming - will be in the written plan about what the BBC does. There will be a lot more cancellations of planned programmes.

bellinisurge · 08/09/2022 13:36

Not a monarchist. Glad she's comfortable.

antelopevalley · 08/09/2022 13:36

I think it will be today or in the next few days.

Nekomata · 08/09/2022 13:36

About a year ago, a MNer claimed that she was a journalist and they'd been given the nod that her death was imminent. Yet, she's still here. I don't really get the death watch obsession with the Queen. Her time will come when it comes, it may be today, it may be 10 years from now. None of us know.

AthenaPopodopolous · 08/09/2022 13:37

Oh my thoughts go out to Queen Elizabeth her family. I hope she is able to rest and be comfortable at Balmoral. She is an amazing Queen and I hope Charles does a good job as King in the future. William will be excellent though as King one day.

I totally agree.

When it's time, an announcement will be made. There will be breaking news/alerts everywhere and normal tv/radio programs will be interrupted to deliver the breaking news. We won't need to search it out or have the news on so we don't miss it.

You sound delightful

Nothing new there - plans around announcing her death have been in place for 50+ years.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_London_Bridge

Every member of the royal family has that and it gets updated regularly.

Poor old Queenie, what an amazing woman.

antelopevalley · 08/09/2022 13:39

This also talks about what happens when she dies and how her death will be announced.

I'm shocked at how upset this has made me feel. She's been incredible.

vera99 · 08/09/2022 13:41

I do hope Harry gets to see her before she goes if that indeed is what is happening as he was said to be her favourite and he is in the country.

workiskillingme · 08/09/2022 13:42

Thunder storms now as well it feels very imminent

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 08/09/2022 13:42

I don't think she has long, as in hours/days.
I'm not a monarchist in any way, but I am very sad, as she seems like a nice person and has worked hard up to her mid-90s in a job that even with the vast weatlh that comes with it, I wouldn't want to do. The end of an era.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 08/09/2022 13:42

My late mother was born in the reign of King George V and remembered Edward VIII and George VI very well as monarchs. She was taken to see George V lying in State and I remember her telling me that when he died 'they played this awful, mournful music on the wireless'. It was the same for George VI I believe.

Bbq1 · 08/09/2022 13:42

It's sad. I'm not an ardent Royalist but I do like them. It's important whatever age she is because she's quite simply the Queen. Besides that, she's someones mother, grandmother etc.

I'm tearful too, I've never known her not be there and whilst I know she's had a good long life it's still very sad. All the family are converging on Balmoral so think the end is near.

gogohmm · 08/09/2022 13:44

Hardly unexpected. Hope she can hang on until after my holiday as I have the Queen passing away protocols for work!

gogohmm · 08/09/2022 13:44

Obviously sad for her family but at 96 we need to pray for a peaceful end

CookieCoo · 08/09/2022 13:45

I’m surprised I’ve had tears in my eyes reading this. I’m not a royalist, but admire her greatly. It’s sad that her passing will be at a time when it’s such a low point for the UK.

What a ghastly idea of King Charles!!

kirkandpetal · 08/09/2022 13:45

Anne, Andrew, Edward all en route now.
