It feels like we're being slowly prepared for her passing away. I feel unexpectedly tearful.

This probably sounds really stupid, but I am not emotionally ready for this. The Queen and her family are in my thoughts.

garlicandsapphires · 08/09/2022 12:55

But she looked okay only yesterday? surely she wouldn't be up and working is she was at death's door?

At her age, yes. It often happens this way.

She looked very thin.

I think you're underestimating time lady - she's a stoic by anyone's standards.

SpringCalling · 08/09/2022 12:57

Now the next in line are travelling up, it feels bad ....

I hope she remains comfortable and has her family around her in the next few days. She's the only monarch I've ever known in my lifetime.

That probably took it out of her.

It doesn't sound stupid at all. I'm no royalist but it will be very weird and upsetting when she dies.

MarshaBradyo · 08/09/2022 13:00

Ah I feel moved by this

I know she’s 96 but it’s going to be very sad

haveyouopenedyourbowelstoday · 08/09/2022 13:00

I'm so not ready.

happyinherts · 08/09/2022 13:01

@ChicCroissant I think she's the only monarch everyone's ever known! 70 years in office. She's the only stability this country has right now, and while no one is immortal - I sincerely hope this isn't the end.

RunnerDown · 08/09/2022 13:02

I think the monarchy should be abolished . But I am still surprisingly upset at the news . I hope she has some comfort and privacy. Hopefully easier to achieve that at Balmoral.
I thought the photos yesterday looked a bit odd tbh ,and wondered if they’d been doctored a bit

TeeBee · 08/09/2022 13:03

HebeSunshine · 08/09/2022 12:58

That probably took it out of her.

Having to shake hands with all those Tories would take it out of anyone. She's had enough.

kirkandpetal · 08/09/2022 13:03

I'm surprised at how sad i feel about this news and the potential that may come in the next few days/weeks. I don't consider myself a 'through and through' royalist, but the sudden realisation has suddenly made me feel really very sad.

wherearethehumans · 08/09/2022 13:03

@TeeBee your ex should be under a non disclosure agreement. So shouldn't really be talking about the work or the website.

I think she is in her last few hours.

London Bridge is falling down and I'm surprised tofind myself quite tearful at the prospect

SurpriseSurprise · 08/09/2022 13:05

I don’t think we should all panic yet, nothing has been announced to say she’s not going to get through this

Yup I’m burying my head in the sand and pretending it’s not happening! It will be a sad day

MissyB1 · 08/09/2022 13:05

Well I think we all knew she had gone to Balmoral to die, it was obviously where she had decided she would rather be.

I agree with this.

I feel quite tearful. I am not particularly 'into' the Royals, but she has been a constant presence.

germsandcoffee · 08/09/2022 13:05

I agree and I'm also unexpectedly upset.
The pictures of her with Liz Truss makes her look so frail and reminded me of my own dearly missed grandma x

My dad is in his late eighties, and has been in hospital for a while - I can see how frail he is and he's much younger than the Queen! At her age, I don't know how she does it. Even he would have been a teenager when the Queen took the throne. A lifetime of duty.

GingerScallop · 08/09/2022 13:07

Mannymoomin · 08/09/2022 12:45

I agree.
the Queen is very private when it comes to her health, the fact the Buckingham palaces have made an announcement doesn’t look good.
I hope not, she is a remarkable human being, but I think they know 😔

She is remarkable mostly because the bulk of her reign was when reverence for royalty was high and there was less scrutiny, no social media and a silent contract by media to always to always report her in a positive light. If through her reign there was the level of critical analysis of the monarchy and her actions she would be as mistake ridden as Charles. More secrets would be out and we would see her (if we used critical thinking) in a different light. She's no more and no less remarkable than most women on this platform 😂😂😂
I think Harry will now feel free to release his memoir after she dies as he wouldn't want to upset her And good they are here. Hopefully they too can be by her side. I hope the family treats them decently

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/09/2022 13:07

I'm older than most Mumsnetters. There's a photo of me as a tiny toddler at a street party for her coronation.

Yes, they reminded me of mine too. Always tiny, but rounded And then suddenly not any more. Just tiny and frail.
