As the last thread filled up & there's plenty of discussion of Meghan's interview in The Cut, seems worthwhile starting a new thread!

A read yesterday that a series of media interviews are planned to promote the podcasts. Should be very interesting if The Cut interview is anything to go by!

What we really need are some South African people to tell us whether they were or were not dancing in the streets 😁

Nelson Mandelas grandson could have helped her save face by saying well there wasn’t exactly dancing in the streets but people were very happy and celebrated her marriage into the Royal Family. He didn’t though. In fact he was quite derisory and referred to Harry as a ‘white Prince’.

MarshaMelrose · 31/08/2022 20:16

I don't believe she lied. It's possible she might have put a gloss on it, but she wouldn't have lied about likening herself to Mandela. No one would be stupid enough to do that.
It wouldn't surprise me if the DM ended up with egg on its face over this. But that's tough on the person who said it. He's going to have to come our and say in front of all his countryman that he said the SAs celebrated her marriage on the sane level as they did the of freeing Mandela. Imagine the stick he's going to take over that.

Readinginthesun · 31/08/2022 20:16

Just checked . As yet Scobie hasn’t “ clarified” the situation.

Lolliesareonme · 31/08/2022 20:17

I found a pic of her meeting Lebo M

I'm sure Omid will clarify soon enough

Grin Grin (and thanks for the Spotify link, by the way)

On the Mandela story thing I'd prefer not to be too hasty since it's the Mail, though them having named the source does make it more credible - unlike the "a source close to" rubbish that gets posted so often

I'm still more interested in when and where a Royal Rota member called Archie the N word though, and it does seem a little odd that Meghan's supporters have nothing to say about this

There may be some 'kernel of truth' to the story, but likely distorted and exaggerated, like the 'we got married 3 days earlier' story.

But I doubt the person concerned would go on the record to say it was them, for the reasons you suggest. Why would they?

SirChenjins · 31/08/2022 20:23

You’d have thought that if it was true she’d be sensible enough to join up her —fantasy— story and at least attribute it to an event where Dr Kani was actually present as she claimed he was.

SueSaid · 31/08/2022 20:26

Surely even if not a cast member she meant someone on the production be it costume designer, make up artist whatever. I doubt she'd make something up like this that cannot be verified.

Agree with pp think the DM will end up with egg on their face about this. The person who said it will come forward and it will be all be 'see, MM is bullied by the British media'.

as this journalist observes, it’s the fact that she ever felt it appropriate to share the anecdote that’s the truly extraordinary thing

Is it not the case that only certain people are included in the line ups to meet the Royals ? I can’t imagine that there would be dozens of people introduced and I certainly can’t see someone pulling a member of the Royal family aside to whisper something!

MissMarpleRocks · 31/08/2022 20:29

I also think there is a kernel of truth to the anecdote but I don’t think it was appropriate to share it.

Would costume designers and make up artists be invited to premieres and in a position to approach royal guests?

But I agree that whatever the truth or lack thereof regarding the anecdote, the fact that she thought it appropriate to share does not reflect well on her character.

No, she was quite clear - the SA cast member at the premiere. Unless you’re saying she can’t always be relied on to give a wholly accurate account of events because reasons, and therefore her words are open to interpretation at all times?

latesummervibes · 31/08/2022 20:32

I agree completely. Whether it's true or a lie, the fact she's retelling it says a lot about her need to garner attention (and says a lot about her awful lack of self awareness)

Grandiose pomposity, really. But if she believes someone said it, you can imagine how flattering that would be. And you'd want to share it. At least, I would! 🤭

Anyway Lebo M is a great performer. I'm glad I've found out about him

Gilmorehill · 31/08/2022 20:38

I had my first two dcs in my dh’s home country. I can connect somewhat with this. I felt very lonely and isolated and yearned for ‘British’ things like Mothercare and health visitors. I’d imagine M may have missed similar home comforts. She did have the financial means to go home whenever she wanted and the space for her mother to stay for an extended period. I felt very isolated because I lived somewhere where you needed a car to go anywhere and we couldn’t afford a second car. M certainly didn’t have that problem. In fact, she was surrounded by beautiful places to take a baby for a walk. So I have some sympathy with feeling homesick but she did have ways to alleviate it.

I am less than impressed that they were actually at the Lion King premier, given that Harry was supposed to be at the Marine’s memorial event. Especially as he has subsequently said how upset he was at loosing his post as Captain General of the Marines.

Quite.

MarshaMelrose · 31/08/2022 20:41

@Gilmorehill She did take Archie back to the USA for the day to watch the US tennis open. So it wasn't like she couldn't have visited there for longer.

derxa · 31/08/2022 20:44

One of the perks of being royal is that you meet wonderful talented people like Lebo M, Beyonce, Serena and Mariah Carey. Yet Meghan never seems to see it that way. I've never heard or seen her praise anyone else but herself. Now that is bizarre.

Earlier in the thread I said, MM doe not have to give us written proof about racism.

My thought was that someone she trusts - possibly one of RS told her of something they heard.

With all the comparisons to animals and other racists tropes, I can see how she would easily believe this happened. Considering she could not walk around with a camera - like most poc, I'm not sure she can prove it. The same as victims of abuse cannot prove anything without a camera on the scene.

Meanwhile I posted several reporters doing their dogwhistle, then an editor witnessing what was being said about MM, but never made it to print. Her staff would have been there to witness and probably told her.

You should have seen this a lot, not sure what your agenda is.

How very true. She never gives credit to anyone unless it’s in relation to herself.
