As the last thread filled up & there's plenty of discussion of Meghan's interview in The Cut, seems worthwhile starting a new thread!

A read yesterday that a series of media interviews are planned to promote the podcasts. Should be very interesting if The Cut interview is anything to go by!

Sorry, but at what point did MM name John Kani as the cast member?

Can you link that? I listened to the podcast and saw no such.

Lion King is written by an SA writer, and has several SA actors. Is this John Kani saying he was one of the ones who spoke to MM? She did not speak to anyone else except him? He knows this for sure?

Confused.

The original writers are Irene Mecchi, Jonathan Roberts, and Linda Woolverton. All american
The screen play was Jeffrey D. Nathanson (American)
I can't find anyone other than Dr John Kani that is credited who is credited in the cast list as SA.

Could you enlighten me?

Arnaquer · 31/08/2022 19:01

Oh dear @notanotheroneagain you and Meghan seem to have the same problem with ' the truth'

notanotheroneagain · 31/08/2022 19:05

The Lion King was created by Lebo M.

The cast list only refers to the main characters, nothing about extras or uncredited actors.

If you are going to be so 'forensic', don't just apply to MM, btw.

So who are the 'South African cast members' who were present at the London premiere?

Can you be specific?

How the hell will I know their names.

Not sure MM remembers their name either. She was just touched by what the person said. They may have been low down the totem pole, but she still acknowledges that they are part of the team - rather than dismissing them as others seem to do in the press.

IcedPurple · 31/08/2022 19:11

Did you bother to read your own link?

That man is a musician, not an actor. So not a 'cast member'.

So in fact, you have no idea if there were any other South African cast members or if they were present at the London premiere.

The only known South African cast member was not there and did not meet Meghan.

Did you?

"It was the latest in a stunning string of successes for Lebo M, a producer and composer who won a Grammy Award for the song “Circle of Life” from “The Lion King,” and a singer whose memorable voice begins the opening scene in the film."

His voice is literally in the film. Maybe not technically a cast member, but he is known as "The voice and spirit of the Lion King" according to the Lion King site: lionking.com/creative-team/lebo-m/.

God forbid Meghan might have mistakenly thought he was part of the cast, but no, let's take the most uncharitable position possible and declare that she's a big fat liar!

susan12345678 · 31/08/2022 19:14

Surely if the anecdote were true, the cast member concerned would have come forward by now to defend Meghan's honour?

Lebo M is on Twitter, should be easy enough to clear this up

Do you honestly think that security would have allowed anyone to “ pull aside” a member of the RF ??
I know it’s hard for you ( and others) to accept but your heroine has been caught out lying. Again.
I used to wonder why the RF weren’t retaliating to some of the crap being spouting but more and more I believe they are simply giving her enough rope …

smilesy · 31/08/2022 19:19

I am less than impressed that they were actually at the Lion King premier, given that Harry was supposed to be at the Marine’s memorial event. Especially as he has subsequently said how upset he was at loosing his post as Captain General of the Marines.

MarshaMelrose · 31/08/2022 19:19

The cast list only refers to the main characters, nothing about extras or uncredited actors.

Do extras and uncredited actors even get invited to premiers, never mind stand on the red carpet, be introduced to royalty and drag them to one side for a private chat?

Ohnonevermind · 31/08/2022 19:19

Perhaps the cast member who said allegedly made the comments will be prompted to come forward following the DM interview.

i’m guessing Omid Scobie will be tweeting that the cast member contacted him 😉 but wants to remain anonymous

BasiliskStare · 31/08/2022 19:20

@Legrandsophie - I suspect she knows the RF will ignore ignore ignore & therefore she can pretty much say what she likes with no comeback.

The Mandela thing stuck in my craw. I am old enough that when I was at university Free Nelson Mandela was played everywhere & I remember him being released. To compare herself to that I thought was just beyond the pale.

But actually I think , nothing she says really matters a hoot. She has what she wants , rich & famous. I just wish she had not spoken about Mandela & it would appear many others do as well.

So he can paint a target on his back with all the anti-Meghan nutters (lets face it, the anti MM thing sounds unhinged) and British press who have been known to target people, go through everything from bins to financial accounts?

You look at the credits in the end, there are several South Africans, some cast, some crew. MM was approached by someone from SA from the film, doesn't look like she interrogated him, and just accepted his words. She just saw him as important as everyone else (either cast or crew, whatever), as part of the team.

IcedPurple · 31/08/2022 19:22

His voice is literally in the film. Maybe not technically a cast member, but he is known as "The voice and spirit of the Lion King" according to the Lion King site: lionking.com/creative-team/lebo-m/.

When you say 'not technically a cast member' surely you mean, not a cast member at all? Or is this another case where Meghan gets to redefine words after being caught out? Like 'we were married'?

God forbid Meghan might have mistakenly thought he was part of the cast, but no, let's take the most uncharitable position possible and declare that she's a big fat liar!

Hang on. Has Lebo said he made this comment? Or are you just making a massive assumption?

So as an actress she doesn't fully understand what the term cast member means?

And I am sure that if she meant Lebo M she would have said his name and his profession.

Ohnonevermind · 31/08/2022 19:23

The RF probably have a Psychologist on hand to tell them exactly how to manage their dealings with Meghan and Harry

florentina1 · 31/08/2022 19:24

The only South African in the cast has said it was not him. Some recollections may vary

IcedPurple · 31/08/2022 19:24

You look at the credits in the end, there are several South Africans, some cast, some crew.

I've never heard of anyone sitting through the entire credits at the end of a film, right down to extras and crew members. But even supposing you did, how could you know their nationality from a name on a screen?

Ohnonevermind · 31/08/2022 19:25

I love the idea of random people not being introduced and dragging her aside for comments about how marvellous she is, and these are the security that Harry is in court fighting to keep

Hopefully the cast member asked if she was okay
