As the last thread filled up & there's plenty of discussion of Meghan's interview in The Cut, seems worthwhile starting a new thread!

A read yesterday that a series of media interviews are planned to promote the podcasts. Should be very interesting if The Cut interview is anything to go by!

His voice is literally in the film. Maybe not technically a cast member, but he is known as "The voice and spirit of the Lion King" according to the Lion King site: lionking.com/creative-team/lebo-m/.

When you say 'not technically a cast member' surely you mean, not a cast member at all? Or is this another case where Meghan gets to redefine words after being caught out? Like 'we were married'?

God forbid Meghan might have mistakenly thought he was part of the cast, but no, let's take the most uncharitable position possible and declare that she's a big fat liar!

Hang on. Has Lebo said he made this comment? Or are you just making a massive assumption?

Once again, his voice is in the film. He is a huge part of the voicework in the movie, albiet through song rather than spoken word. So yes, I'll stand by my words: I think it's understandable that someone who wasn't involved in the production might make the assumption that he is part of the cast.

And I'm not making an assumption that it was Lebo M. I have no idea. Maybe Meghan is lying. But to ignore the fact that a prominent South African muscian whose voice is heard in the movie was at the premiere means the article around this is incomplete and needs some balance added.

IcedPurple · 31/08/2022 19:27

And I'm not making an assumption that it was Lebo M

It seems to me that that is precisely what you are doing.

I love the idea of random people not being introduced and dragging her aside for comments about how marvellous she is, and these are the security that Harry is in court fighting to keep

Hopefully the cast member asked if she was okay

But this could be why he is demanding his own security detail.

LOL

The Lion King was created by Lebo M.

The cast list only refers to the main characters, nothing about extras or uncredited actors.

If you are going to be so 'forensic', don't just apply to MM, btw.

He’s listed as a composer and lyricist for the Broadway version of the Lion King as well as the Film. The writers are different people altogether. He was also mentioned by the Dr in the article as a composer. Not a cast member.

It seems to me that that is precisely what you are doing.

I'll explain again: I am putting the easily verifiable fact out there that a major contributor to the voicework of the film was at the premiere, that he is South African, and therefore the willingness to call Meghan a liar is premature and needs more clarification.

NanaNelly · 31/08/2022 19:30

susan12345678 · 31/08/2022 19:14

Surely if the anecdote were true, the cast member concerned would have come forward by now to defend Meghan's honour?

Or they certainly will now all things considered.

notanotheroneagain · 31/08/2022 19:31

No one is saying it was Lebo M. But we are posting out that outside the top 20 cast members listed, there were several other South Africans around. So to say there were no other South Africans is nonsense.

AlexandriasWindmill · 31/08/2022 19:34

All of this just shows that they should sack Sunshine Sachs and get some decent pr training.

If you're just chatting to a friend it's fine to mix up the location, the event, the person who spoke, their role and their nationality. But it's different when you broadcast it.

They've made a deal with the devil. Netflix and Spotify probably specify how many times they have to mention the RF - and that means always harking back to royal adjacent events.

It would be canny of them to exclusively announce some positive RF stories and a forgiveness/redemption arc with both their families. It's the logical next step from a content creation pov.

Ohnonevermind · 31/08/2022 19:34

Perhaps it was at the real premiere 3 days beforehand ? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

NanaNelly · 31/08/2022 19:34

And Lebo is said to be the spirit of the Lion King because it’s his words and voice when we hear “Nants ingonyama, bagithi Baba!”

John Kani said there were no ther SA cast members.

I'm sure Omid will clarify soon enough.

I’m interested. Where is it written regarding the other South African cast members.

But when I asked, you said yourself that you couldn't name a single South African cast member other than John Kani.

So how could you possibly know that "there were several other South Africans around"?

Legrandsophie · 31/08/2022 19:37

Those arguing whether it was supposedly this guy or not are missing the point.

Even if it was said it is the most self serving, cringeworthy story. Why would anyone with a smallest modicum of self awareness repeat it?

It strike me as a fairly grandiose Trumpian thing to say.

So name them, If they are in the full cast list they won't be hard to find.

So as I said... his voice work is in the film. Meghan could simply have misremembered him as a cast member rather than a crew member due to this.

Lineala · 31/08/2022 19:35

I’d find it very difficult to believe that one South African wouldn’t know if there was more than one other South African or not in the cast.

CauliflowerCheese30 · 31/08/2022 19:38

I mean Leno was there and spoke with them, but he's not down as a cast member

I don’t believe someone who worked in the entertainment industry would.

Poor Meghan , misremembering things is a bad habit of hers

This is the point. Leno M might have said something like this. I have looked him up on Twitter and he seems a very exuberant fellow. However if you had any dignity you wouldn't repeat the anecdote.
