As the last thread filled up & there's plenty of discussion of Meghan's interview in The Cut, seems worthwhile starting a new thread!

A read yesterday that a series of media interviews are planned to promote the podcasts. Should be very interesting if The Cut interview is anything to go by!

The point being that Andrew York would have threatened to take out injunctive or interdictory measures in multiple jurisdictions (and may well have done so) and for some reason this usual action either wasn't resorted to or wasn't effective.

(a) it would cost millions.
(b) the allegations were already out there - they had started in the News of the World in 2010 and continued to gather pace worldwide since then. So that horse had already bolted.
(c) Prince Andrew is a newsworthy figure worldwide. Unless he co-ordinated all his court cases precisely (impossible) then papers all over the world would have reported on this tactic as soon as he started, thus kicking off the Streisand effect and drawing even more attention to the allegations against him.
(D) for the reasons given above, it would have achieved precisely nothing, given the allegations were already out there, and been a colossal waste of money.

So it would have been an utterly stupid strategy to adopt. This is not “usual action”. There is not a single example I am aware of of an individual seeking multiple injunctions around the world to stop a story. (The British government spectacularly failed in the Spycatcher cases in the 1980s)

The clear implication from all of that is that there was more than a grain of truth in the allegations.

Well, given there was a photo of Prince Andrew and 17 year old Virginia Giuffre together, that hurdle was crossed long again. What is doesn’t mean is that he had sex with her.

(e) The allegations were true and he could not prove they were false on the balance of probabilities and Giuffre's lawyers advised her not to heed them.

You seem to be conflating legal warning letters with court action but it would be very unusual for a senior member of the RF in a pickle such as this not to have issued warning letters based on the threat of defamation on the basis that it "would cost too much" way back in 2010.

Thats just not a plausible explanation at all.

As for Giuffre being sued in the US, as I am sure you are aware, legal action in the States is far more common here and far less can be read into it than I think you would like it to be.

I think its often best to say nothing as attempts to close down this nature of discussion generally leads to more...of this nature of discussion.

Could the Andrew derailers get a room? Or just their own thread?

Serenster, you are my hero on these threads. Always calm, always concise, always clear in your expression, factual, well-informed and gracious. You inform while raising the tone of the discussion - well done :)

Absolutely agree !!

I realise that its the mail but MM seems to have been caught out again.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11164935/Mystery-Meghan-Markles-Nelson-Mandela-claims-actor-insists-NEVER-met-Duchess.html

The only SA in the live action lion king says that it never happened.

Ohnonevermind · 31/08/2022 17:28

I see an interesting article about the South African cast member who claims he never met her much less told her that people were dancing on the street. He didn’t attend the U.K. premier so couldn’t have met her.

Its in the daily Mail - so I won’t link

Legrandsophie · 31/08/2022 17:39

So yet another lie uncovered.

My theory is that she takes things said by people close to her and spins them as things she’s been told by her adoring public.

Wartywart · 31/08/2022 17:48

Maybe she didn't mean a member of the cast of the film - maybe it's a member of the cast of the stage show?

She claimed it was at the film premier .

Ohnonevermind · 31/08/2022 17:50

She recalls a moment from the 2019 London premiere of the live-action version of The Lion King. 'I just had Archie. It was such a cruel chapter. I was scared to go out.' A cast member from South Africa pulled her aside. 'He looked at me, and he's just like light. He said, 'I just need you to know: When you married into this family, we rejoiced in the streets the same we did when Mandela was freed from prison.' ' Of course, she knows she's no Mandela, but perhaps even telling me this story is a mode of defense, because if you are a symbol for all that is good and charitable, how can anybody find you objectionable, how can anybody hate you?

a cast member - Meghan is an actress - she knows ‘a cast member’

SpinCityBlues · 31/08/2022 17:51

She said it was at the film premiere, did she not? The DM seem very sure of their ground here.

I mean, it was bullshit anyway.

SpinCityBlues · 31/08/2022 17:52

I knew the DM would go after that one, hard.

themessygarden · 31/08/2022 17:53

😂omg, so the only South African on the movie is totally bemused by it all, said he never met her and wasn't even at the premiere.

There are lots of reports after the premiere where the actors said there was so much protocol around the event, they were getting emails for days in advance on what they could and couldn't do and how or when to talk to them.

As IF, some random could pull her aside to tell her something, he would have been wrestled to the ground by security and still recovering from his injuries.

On a serious note though, it is worrying that she can either outright lie or embellish to the extreme that is being exposed currently.

Readinginthesun · 31/08/2022 17:55

From the interview ;

She [Meghan] recalls a moment from the 2019 London premiere of the live-action version of The Lion King. 'I just had Archie. It was such a cruel chapter. I was scared to go out.' A cast member from South Africa pulled her aside. 'He looked at me, and he's just like light. He said, "I just need you to know: When you married into this family, we rejoiced in the streets the same we did when Mandela was freed from prison." '

Was that not the occasion when Harry tried to get voice over work for Meghan ?

Readinginthesun · 31/08/2022 17:55

X post with @Ohnonevermind

Wartywart · 31/08/2022 17:55

I suppose her bodyguards etc might have, at the very least, bristled a bit if someone 'pulled her aside'. Hard to know what to believe. I do think she tried very hard in some situations and was mocked unecessarily - the writing on bananas for example: she was just trying to be kind there, no need for all that scoffing from people.

Readinginthesun · 31/08/2022 17:57

I am wondering how the Meghan worshippers are going to explain this one !

SpinCityBlues · 31/08/2022 17:58

Who wants to eat a banana with words dug into it with a sharpie ink pen? I wouldn't want to be served that in a café or shop in case the ink had got through. You get the slighest cut in a banana and it starts to go brown anyway.

Start an Andrew derail?

Oh wait. That's been done.

She didn't mean that film; she didn't mean that film showing; she didn't mean 'from' South Africa; she didn't mean 'cast member'; she didn't say it and Allison P Davis wrote it down wrong; she misspoke because stress.

the cast of taskmaster! :)

Yes exactly. Greg Davies is very funny but a banana wrong 'un.

CPL593H · 31/08/2022 18:07

Further quotes from Zwelivelile 'Mandla' Mandela,
Nelson Mandela's grandson, tribal chief and ANC MP;

Today he told The Times that his advice to the former actress was: 'Get out there, pull up your sleeves and better the lives of ordinary people in England and in the United Kingdom', adding: 'For the personality she is, she can do a lot of good in the global community by adopting the causes that Madiba championed'.

Personally I think she should get rid of Sunshine Sachs and ask if he's got any free time to give PR advice.

We know the Mail for a start has an agenda, but I don't think they are actually making things up and attributing them to people like him and Dr John Kani. She is giving organisations who will look for anything to have a go about ammunition.

CPL593H · 31/08/2022 18:08

*about her

CauliflowerCheese30 · 31/08/2022 18:09

She says these things and thinks no one will correct her, well Dr Kani has.

CauliflowerCheese30 · 31/08/2022 18:10

They bang on about misinformation and yet they are the worst ones for it!!
