First visit of royal tour cancelled because of local protest

Just seen on sky news William and Kates visit to a farm in the Caribbean was cancelled becsuse of a local protest. I am with these locals. From their point of view why should those two very entitled unelected multi millionaires who have virtually nothing to do with their country be visiting and expecting to be honoured and bowed and scraped to. They are no better or important than anybody else.

not being celebs

In what sense are they not famous?

being representatives of H.M

So?

You disagreed with my post saying they are no more important than other people famous for nothing. You still haven't explained why you disagree. Why are they important? What more do they contribute than the Katie Prices of this world?

HeadNorth · 21/03/2022 19:18

At last Katie Price and other celebs made their own way to fame/notoriety. We’d never have heard of this pair of nonentities if it wasn’t for an accident of birth, so I would say they were less worthy of our attention than your average sleb.

Roussette · 21/03/2022 20:04

Yeah

Katie Price for pimping out her children for money from a very very young age, rightio

HeadNorth · 21/03/2022 20:07

Well Kate & Will seem happy enough to pimp their brood whenever needed to shore up the RF waning popularity, so what’s the difference?

Roussette · 21/03/2022 20:09

Yep! I agree

notanotheroneagain · 21/03/2022 21:01

Looks like Jamaicans are planning a protest tomorrow around 10 am near the British High Commission .

This trip is getting more embarrassing by the day. Front page news on what Kate is wearing when we could be on the brink of world war 3.

Yes I agree. All those big happy smiles etc. It’s very jarring.

You didn't ask what they contributed to the world. You asked for reasons why they were different. I gave two.

Contributions? Hard to say. They appeal to very different types of people

BadgerB · 22/03/2022 07:43

Perhaps we could arrange for Katie Price to do a Caribbean tour later this year. She could open things - shops, clubs, charity wotsits.

Then we could judge who got the most applause/protests, W&K or KP.

(Here I think I must add, "this is not a serious suggestion". Otherwise someone is likely to think it is.... )

WinnieTheW0rm · 22/03/2022 07:49

I can just imagine KP being appointed to represent HMQ on a formal diplomatic tour!

She'd jump at it, surely after all isn't one of her DC Princess? Made for the part !!

donquixotedelamancha · 22/03/2022 08:15

You didn't ask what they contributed to the world.

The post you first replied to was about them being more important than other people. If that isn't your argument, I'm not sure what your point is.

You asked for reasons why they were different. I gave two.

You didn't give any. My point was that they are merely famous for who their parents are, not for any valid reason.

You say they are not celebrities but don't explain why. You say the fact that their gran sent them to perform some ceremonies is different from other celebs; I don't see how that's materially different from someone switching on Blackpool lights.

They appeal to very different types of people

Do they? They both appear in similar publications, interested in what they wear and their life dramas. The type of people I know who follow one usually follow the other.

wearingtheT · 22/03/2022 08:21

Millions queuing at food banks/living without heating and we give this one family millions.....CRAZY!

CockingASnook · 22/03/2022 08:26

How long is this sham going to continue? Not just the cringeworthy tours of the colonies but the whole royal family. Each year more people start wondering ‘wtf has this random family got to do with anything and why should I care what they are wearing?’. It’s utterly absurd.

meditrina · 22/03/2022 09:06

Well the tours will be for as long as the countries want to retain their monarchy (their monarch also being ours), and for as long as they want to agree invitations. No-ones forcing them to be hosts. I dint think it is up to us to tell another country how it should be arranging its constitutional affairs. If and when the country decides on change, the transition planning will begin immediately. Until that point, it's really not up to us.

And visits by heads of state (or their representatives) will continue unless there's a huge change to the practices of international diplomacy.

About a third of countries are monarchies - it's not an unusual choice by any stretch. And includes countries such as Scandinavia and the Netherlands who score very highly on measures of social equality.

And essential for the royal family's continuation, hence their comms teams within each household endlessly pushing for publicity. Sometimes even briefing against each other to gain popularity and fame.

As the Queen becomes more frail, as the world changes, as inbuilt deference to the wealthy classes crumbles, as the past is revisited with fresh eyes, the survival of the RF as an institution is looking a bit wobbly. And more irrelevant.

Samcro · 22/03/2022 09:27

i saw a brief thing on the news. Kate wearing an evening dress and them quaffing what looked like champaign. looked like something from the 50's

notanotheroneagain · 22/03/2022 10:08

No-ones forcing them to be hosts.

This may not strictly apply to the citizens. In Belize they were told that they would be arrested if they protest.

In all likelihood, a politician has hopes of a title and would like to keep the rf for their own gain. I am still not sure what cw countries gain from having the queen.

Yes I saw that. And the interior of the private jet, 'twas a bit much....
Some of the headlines are absolutely cringey...
Kate & William learn survival techniques!
Kate wows in hot pink!
Royal fans go wild, Kate dances flirtily!

Someone save us from this nonsense

(I think Kate can look fabulous, however, that pink dress was an absolute monstrosity)

Samcro · 22/03/2022 11:24

i think Kate looks lovely when she is dressed "down"
just not keen on the sparkly dresses. (personal taste)

Roussette · 22/03/2022 11:26

Totally agree. There's other pics of her out there, she is in khaki trousers and a plain white T shirt and she looks fab... it's the athletic figure that does it

Chilledchablis1 · 22/03/2022 11:43

Suggestion - stop reading headlines.

Roussette · 22/03/2022 11:53

Suggestion - stop telling me what to do lol

I can't help but see it if it pops up on Twitter

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/03/2022 12:07

I am still not sure what (Commonwealth) countries gain from having the queen

A heck of a lot of money for a start, both in actual grants from the Commonwealth Foundation and through being shoved up queues through the Queen's influence

It's notable that even those who've gone for independence are usually keen to retain their Commonwealth status, and I've often wondered if this plays a part
