First visit of royal tour cancelled because of local protest

Just seen on sky news William and Kates visit to a farm in the Caribbean was cancelled becsuse of a local protest. I am with these locals. From their point of view why should those two very entitled unelected multi millionaires who have virtually nothing to do with their country be visiting and expecting to be honoured and bowed and scraped to. They are no better or important than anybody else.

Sorry if I confused anyone . ( second G and T ). Someone was saying that £30+ k was obscene for Catherine’s clothes for her week’s tour . I asked if it was more obscene than £56,000 for an engagement dress ? It’s well documented that was how much Meghan’s engagement dress cost . Personally I think THAT is obscene .
I will put away the gin bottle.

And in this case there is reason to say so, given the extortionate cost of Meghan's engagement dress, more than the whole cost of Kate's wardrobe for a whole week

ahh. thought this was a thread about W&K not a Meghan bash.. To be fair, I think it was just highlighted as a cost when pp, who often supports Meghan, said that Kate’s wardrobe for an entire week was obscenely expensive at £34k

I think Kate's engagement dress aged quite badly. Meghan’s dress was and still is beautiful, though I’m not a huge fan of the designers , 🙊.

I don’t think anyone is saying Meghan’s dress wasn’t beautiful but the cost is eye watering !

, but seeing that it was Megan who was probably the hottest story at that time , she probably paid a fraction of that price in exchange for publicity.
Same goes to DoC , she is like a walking ad for British designers maybe she gets a special discount or something.
Ive never heard of the designer of the ice blue gown, I’m sure she’s getting lots of interest now!

Members of the RF aren’t allowed to accept free clothes . I don’t know about discounts but even a 50% discount on M’s engagement dress means it was still hugely expensive.

I imagine they don’t pay full price (they can’t accept them for free though), especially on anything bespoke where there isn’t a set price to start with. So even if they can’t technically accept discounts (I’m not sure on that), bespoke dresses will have individual prices so it could be less than joe bloggs would pay, without being technically discounted because there’s no “full price” version of that specific dress to compare to iyswim.

Yes exactly . Even the Emanuels who designed Diana’s dress said that the cost of her dress in reality is much higher than what The Spencer’s paid for, but it’s Diana, naturally they’d keep it down.

Meghan’s engagement dress was £56,000?!

I’ve just had another look at it. I didn’t realise it was that posh. I think I only ever saw her in the seated position and assumed she was wearing an olive coloured top or dress! I’m not loving it although to be fair it’s not really my style so I don’t think I could say anything nice about it anyway. I’m not overly fond of Kate’s engagement dress either but I love the colour and how it complimented the colour of her ring.

Anyhoo, back of to the royal fashion thread I go…

Don't you think it was more than likely the dress was loaned to Meghan for the engagement photos rather, than buying it ?

Personally, I suspect it was a loan for a few hours.

I doubt if it was a loan or the cost wouldn’t have been talked about so much plus ( I think) it’s been on display some place .
Apologies if I derailed a thread about W and C , I only raised the issue of M’s dress because someone was “ shocked” at the cost of C’s tour wardrobe.

I'm not sure why Meghan's engagement dress is discussed so much on here. As I said, KM's wedding dress cost over 300K and I don't begrudge that price as I understand it that the wedding/engagement dresses and such occasions will end up in a museum. They represent a certain historical occasion.

I said KM's wardrobe amount was inappropriate for the tour and countries she was visiting, for the reasons I had already stated.

Other posters brought up MM, I responded to them.

it could be argued that the cost of Meghan's engagement was inappropriate too. The kind of dress Hollywood A list celebrities would wear - absolutely fine if you pay for it yourself but not when somebody else (Charles) is paying.
