Maybe he’ll stop hiding behind his mummy now…

I'm not sure the guilty verdict makes much difference to PA. I mean, he's still behaved dreadfully and his judgement is appalling, but there's nothing to show he knew about her offences. Or that he would have any reason to suspect that women at parties were there anything other than willingly (orbwere not of age). He maybe selfish, lazy and loathsome, but that's not the same as criminal

OverByYer · 29/12/2021 22:34

It doesn't bode well for the civil case against him though. Shows that Epstein and is crowd aren't untouchable as they thought they were.

Roussette · 30/12/2021 08:10

Yes agreed. This will impact on his civil case (that millions are being spent on, in legal fees in UK and US)

His legal team are aggressively trying to get the VG case against him dropped, so far with no success. They have tried to block the release of court docs relating to Epstein's 2009 settlement with VG, which bears directly on the case - to no avail. These docs will be released on 3 Jan.

Basically Maxwell is mentioned 23 times in these docs, if she'd been acquitted it would've made it easier for PA as she could've denied everything, and PA would not be implicated in the civil case. As it is, that can't now happen. She's guilty and VG was introduced to PA through Maxwell.

OverByYer · 30/12/2021 08:37

I look forward to seeing what happens next

Roussette · 30/12/2021 09:08

STATEMENT FROM THE MAXWELL FAMILY "We believe firmly in our sister's innocence - we are very disappointed with the verdict. We have already started the appeal tonight and we believe that she will ultimately be vindicated."

DifferentHair · 30/12/2021 09:20

🤮

Disgusting human being.

Only plus is that he has done more for the republican cause than the invention of the guillotine.

BadgerB · 30/12/2021 13:06

There is a persistent rumour that several high-profile U.S. "important men" have paid heavily in return for a NDA.

If this is so, all credit to the Queen for NOT doing this.

diddl · 30/12/2021 15:35

"if she'd been acquitted it would've made it easier for PA as she could've denied everything, and PA would not be implicated in the civil case. As it is, that can't now happen. She's guilty and VG was introduced to PA through Maxwell."

I wonder if he could still plausibly deny that he knew that she was trafficked?

BonnesVacances · 30/12/2021 16:46

Something I saw on Twitter was other pictures of Virginia Guiffre around the same time and just how young she looked. She really did look like a young child and PA can't possibly say she looked older and nearer his age.

rubicscubicle · 30/12/2021 18:18

You beat me to it @BonnesVacances

It seems to me that it's the same day and both VG and Maxwell are wearing the same clothes as the day of Andrew's picture.

Somehow she looks older in the Andrew picture, which may have confused people into believing she was older. There is no mistaking that she is oddly a child among everyone else.

And I see the BBC is regretting interviewing the accused Alan Dershowitz after the verdict .
How did they not know who he was considering he was in the Jeffrey Epstein documentary as one of the accused.

Roussette · 30/12/2021 18:37

Exactly rubics.

He was ranting about VG and working at protecting himself and PA. What does that say I wonder...

Surely BBC researchers can't be that dim and uninformed.

diddl · 30/12/2021 19:07

I wouldn't even be able to tell that it's the same girl in the other pics!

Regardless of that I think the whole pic is strange-Ghislaine looking on like some proud mum!

And she looks old enough to be Virginia's mum & she & Andrew are the same age so it doesn't take a genius to work out that she's a similar age to his daughters.

Also if she was a star struck employee who wanted a pic-wouldn't PA just have stood stiffly & not put his arm around her in such a familiar way & Ghislaine wouldn't have been grinning in like that?

Even if PA genuinely thought she fancied him & had even initiated things, well there comes a line that as a 40+yr old man you take some responsibility & don't cross.

mrdarcyfan · 31/12/2021 00:15

If a forty year old woman was hanging around with a 17 year old boy we'd think it was gross.

Roussette · 31/12/2021 07:50

Apparently... VG says that PA played a guessing game about how old she was when they first met and compared her to his daughters. Shock Shock

Maybe he needs to do another Newsnight interview and clear the whole thing up Grin
But given he continually called Maxwell 'my friend' in the last one (whilst trying unsuccessfully to distance himself from Epstein but not regretting his relationship with him)... maybe not a good idea.

Friends with two convicted sex traffickers... actually maybe 3 as Harvey Weinstein was also at Beatrice's birthday party.
He's really not worried about the company he keeps and never has been.

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 31/12/2021 09:48

I think PA is a stupid man but not necessarily a paedophile

Its a civil case not a court case or something, isn't it? So if he just ignores it and refuses to co-operate, what's the worse that can happen? They rule against him anyway? Could he not just say 'not a proper court' or something?

Mamamia7962 · 31/12/2021 09:57

Rousette - That isn't actually true, in her memoirs she says that Prince Andrew guessed her age correctly as 17 which at the time was 5 years older than his eldest daughter.

Roussette · 31/12/2021 11:04

Manamia. That's not to say he didn't mention his daughters?
I'm just repeating what I read this morning in a news report

Mamamia7962 · 31/12/2021 11:30

Rousette - No he didn't, VG said that at the time she was unaware of how old his daughters were and it doesn't say anything about him talking about them.

The photograph of her and PA was taken by Epstein at her request on her camera. She said it was Epstein who made her sleep with PA and set up the events for that evening. Ghislaine Maxwell was there that evening so it will depend on whether or not she talks.

I would imagine PA is very worried.

diddl · 31/12/2021 11:38

"I think PA is a stupid man but not necessarily a paedophile"

It think it's possible that it didn't occur to him that Virginia was being forced to pretend to like him/find him attractive.

Is that a good enough "excuse" though?

Roussette · 31/12/2021 12:22

As I say Mamma I am only repeating what was mentioned in a news report I read today, obviously incorrect then. Not that it matters... it's still abhorrent a man of his age and position... and her.

upinaballoon · 31/12/2021 13:54

My thoughts are that JE was very definitely interested in girls who were under the age of consent but that doesn't mean that any other alleged recipients of their skills were. Yes, I said skills. JE trained them up, apparently with GM's help. If JE recommended them and passed them on I suppose they (the men and woman(?)) thought that they were on to a very good thing. Unless they were a bit surprised by it all and didn't realise they were being set up for future blackmail.

I don't know in what ways JE and/or GM might have threatened the girls behind the scenes, except for Maria Farmer saying that on the phone GM suggested that she should be careful when she was out jogging as accidents could easily happen, but I wouldn't have thought it was in the interests of the girls to make it obvious to the men they were passed on to that they were not liking what they were doing or that they felt threatened by JE/GM and wanted out.

A load of old sleazebuckets? Yes. All paedophiles? I don't think so.
Andrew a paedophile? I don't think so. A total prat? Er, ........................

Roussette · 31/12/2021 14:03

JE was well known for being interested in young girls....

To quote Trump (never thought I'd say that!)
"I've known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy. He's a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side."

Andrew can deny all he likes, it doesn't mean to say he's telling the truth does it?
After all, there's footage out there of him in the doorway of Epstein's NY mansion. JE comes out, followed by a young girl who to me looks about 14, she runs up the road after Epstein then comes back into the mansion. Andrew is peering out afterwards.

diddl · 31/12/2021 14:14

"that doesn't mean that any other alleged recipients of their skills were."

But then why did they "receive the skills"?
