There is talk of a 'fix' and I don't really understand it.

The judge in the trial due to start Monday, Judge Alison Nathan, has been recommended for appointment to US Court of Appeals by Chuck Schumer. Reportedly this judge will oversee the case to its conclusion despite the appointment and it's being called a fix...

I can’t see if it’s been mentioned on this thread
But I read recently that GM was at the same school as Cressida Dick who was overall in charge of the mets investigation of Andrew recently

Roussette · 28/11/2021 15:23

Yes, I saw that Hippy. I'm not sure they were friendly but who knows, I have a suspicious mind!

Hippychicken1 · 28/11/2021 15:38

@Roussette lol not as suspicious as mine
They all seem to be so very interlinked
I mean what the chances “ in the real world “ that a someone who’s been accused of what GM been accused of went to school with someone in charge of the investigation of another person accused of the same or similar crime who is also a good friend of GM and also GM ex boyfriend / friend who died in mysterious circumstances when in jail accused of the same - similar crimes 😂😂
My head hurt just writing that …
I think if I’m correct Cressida Dick ultimately decided that Andrew had no charges to answer to - I wonder why and why is she CD so bloody Teflon

Roussette · 28/11/2021 16:31

Exactly! It's all so convoluted isn't it...

It will be interesting to see what comes out at the trial, starting tomorrow....

No way! Although not surprising, I’m not one for conspiracy theories but money talks and all these people do tend to move or have moved in the same circles. Concerning but interesting to watch also

I would like to ask a question about procedure, which is a bit of a tangent.
Correct me if I get anything wrong, and please answer if you can. In GB the police charged 3 people with a crime. The case would have been referred to the CPS, Crown Prosecution Service. They would have looked at it and if it seemed there was enough evidence to make it worthwhile spending the money on a trial they went ahead. Counsels for the prosecution and defence were chosen/appointed. How, please? If one of the three had been defended in the past by a particular barrister could that person ask for that same barrister this new time? I don't think the defending barrister needed to believe that any of the three accuseds was innocent, could believe in his inmost being that they were all guilty as hell, but it was his job to defend them as best he knew how.
Now to the USA today. Will GM have one counsel prosecuting and one counsel defending and how will those people have been chosen/appointed, in their system?

Roussette · 29/11/2021 08:49

I think it's different because it's a federal case and not being tried in a state court.

I presume GM has chosen her own defence counsel.

This is worth a read... it sets out the names and faces of the defence and prosecution... big names indeed who have been involved, in the past, in very high profile cases.

www.miamiherald.com/news/local/crime/article256051297.html

Cameras are prohibited in a federal court, but there is a live feed apparently. It is expected to last 6 weeks, but doesn't cover the perjury charges.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/11/2021 15:34

It is expected to last 6 weeks

Makes you wonder what'll happen if the appeal court discover an "urgent need" for her to take up her proposed new appointment doesn't it? Wink

I'm just amazed this is going ahead at all, but time will tell ... time will tell ...

Roussette · 29/11/2021 16:31

She has promised to stay for the duration of the case, let's hope.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/11/2021 16:33

Hmmmmm - I suspect "hope" is the operative word, Roussette ...

Roussette · 29/11/2021 16:35

Questioning of the jurors is ongoing, some are being excused. Ghislaine has arrived in court, along with another victim, who will not be testifying.

The Independent is doing a live feed on the trial.

Roussette · 29/11/2021 16:35

She has vowed to Puzzled so imagine she would?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/11/2021 16:43

Who knows, Roussette; as said, time will tell Smile

This just keeps getting worse ConfusedConfused
islandbeach · 29/11/2021 18:24

Is there a separate thread for this trial? I’ve not been able to find one. I’m really keen to follow it although the time difference will make it hard to keep up with live coverage.

Roussette · 29/11/2021 18:29

I think this is it!

There are live updates on The Independent and elsewhere.

DuncinToffee · 29/11/2021 19:01

We might as well keep up with the trial on this thread, keep it in one place.

islandbeach · 29/11/2021 19:32

I can’t tolerate the independent website! So many ads popping up and interferes with scrolling and refreshing.

I found Bloomberg has much more detail but it might want me to subscribe eventually. Has anyone found any other live feeds?

Thanks for the Twitter link @DuncinToffee been looking forward to this with interest

islandbeach · 29/11/2021 20:20

Looks like the defence is going to purely rest on discrediting the witnesses and their ‘memory’.

Roussette · 29/11/2021 20:45

Yes, and besmirching them no doubt. Because that's what happens

Roussette · 30/11/2021 14:54

So... a sum up of so far..

Prosecutors charged that Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein were “partners in crime” and she was an “essential” part of his scheme to prey on underage girls.
Defense attorneys revealed their strategy, painting Maxwell as a “scapegoat” being persecuted because of the government’s failure to bring Epstein to trial.

One juror has been excused because of a holiday they can't move.

Epstein's pilot who worked for him for 25 years, is due to give testimony today
