The royal family

To think Prince Harry should give up his titles?

Let’s face it, he has suffered immensely being born into the most famous and privileged family in the world. His titles were bestowed solely due to the family he was born into with the expectation that he would be a ‘working’ member of that family in return for the privilege and unfathomably (to us plebs) luxurious lifestyle he enjoyed (or not as he says now).

He has thankfully escaped his gilded cage and is no longer a working member of the family, in fact he has completely trashed that institution and in doing so also the Head of it, his Grandmother, the Queen while her husband of 73 years was ill in hospital and dying.

As he has suffered so much due to the public interest of his life (interest purely due to his title) by the public and the media so much, shouldn’t he just jack it all in and decree that he is no longer ‘Royal’ by giving up his titles and living quietly in the US with his family?

No.

Next.

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/06/2021 21:15

Yes. Pain in the arse, the pair of them.

mog27 · 22/06/2021 21:15

There'll be no interest in him if he's not royalty and he needs to make money so it's never going to happen.

DroopyClematis · 22/06/2021 21:16

Yes he should.

starfro · 22/06/2021 21:16

Yes. Leave him and his wife to play professional victims out in America where they love that sort of thing.

ChiefAdjusterOfRubensShorts · 22/06/2021 21:17

Yes he should.

Travis1 · 22/06/2021 21:17

Oh goody we’ve not had one of these in a while have we? 🙄

PotassiumChloride · 22/06/2021 21:18

Yes, he definitely should. He should also give up his first name and move to something more American and less royal - maybe Hank.

londonrach · 22/06/2021 21:19

Of course he should.

gamerchick · 22/06/2021 21:20

There is a dedicated topic for this stuff

BastardMonkfish · 22/06/2021 21:21

Only if Meghan can still keep her title. She'll always be Duchess of our hearts Grin

PinkArt · 22/06/2021 21:22

Presumably you've started similar threads re other non working royals? Prince Michael perhaps? Or Princess Eugenie

PotassiumChloride · 22/06/2021 21:23

@BastardMonkfish

Only if Meghan can still keep her title. She'll always be Duchess of our hearts Grin
Meghan is the Duchess of my left ventricle. The other three chambers of my heart are dedicated to Diana, the People’s Princess.
Genderwitched · 22/06/2021 21:23

Yes I do actually. He wants to be free, he dislikes the institution, I am at a loss as to why he doesn't just go and live his life as he claims to want. I have never seen such self destructive behavior before in my life.

NurseButtercup · 22/06/2021 21:23

No, I don't think he should give up his title because he's chosen to take a different path. He's still representing this country.

I also don't understand why people are so invested in this? He isn't being supported by taxpayers £££ so what's the issue? Nothing that he does has a direct impact upon our day to day lives.

CoolCatTaco · 22/06/2021 21:24

They all should and consign the nonsense of monarchy to history where it belongs.
But if they're staying then no, leave him alone. I think Andrew's friendship with Jeffrey Epstein & Charles' friendship with Jimmy Saville are much more troubling than a turn on Oprah.

elQuintoConyo · 22/06/2021 21:24

I read your title as 'testicles'.

And I vote: no.

TheKeatingFive · 22/06/2021 21:25

I’d be more interested in Andrew giving up his.

Genderwitched · 22/06/2021 21:26

They both had so much potential in America, young, attractive with great connections and earning power, and they've just ruined it all. I just don't get it!!

Roussette · 22/06/2021 21:26

They still have enormous potential in America.

LeJessi · 22/06/2021 21:26

They have lost the HRH already - she won't give up the title without a fight - loves to use it attract attention to herself and bring in the bucks.

What I don't get is why they have bleated on so much about wanting privacy and they set about putting themselves in the spotlight to slag everyone else off - exactly what they apparently hated the British media for - they want their cake and to eat it

MrsMattMurdock · 22/06/2021 21:27

Where do people find the energy to (a) care about, and (b) post about this stuff. I am now exhausted from the effort of typing two sentences about someone I will never meet and who has no impact on my life whatsoever.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 22/06/2021 21:29

Dunno, Op- why don't you activate the Mumsnet Search tool and read through the 19383746367920 other threads that have already been filled with exactly this discussion. There is enough outrage there to keep you going for a good while.

HRHTheQueensSlippers · 22/06/2021 21:29

No I haven’t but I don’t remember them giving very public interviews about how they were trapped, needed to escape and live in another country and how terrible it all was Pink?
