The royal family

To think Prince Harry should give up his titles?

Let’s face it, he has suffered immensely being born into the most famous and privileged family in the world. His titles were bestowed solely due to the family he was born into with the expectation that he would be a ‘working’ member of that family in return for the privilege and unfathomably (to us plebs) luxurious lifestyle he enjoyed (or not as he says now).

He has thankfully escaped his gilded cage and is no longer a working member of the family, in fact he has completely trashed that institution and in doing so also the Head of it, his Grandmother, the Queen while her husband of 73 years was ill in hospital and dying.

As he has suffered so much due to the public interest of his life (interest purely due to his title) by the public and the media so much, shouldn’t he just jack it all in and decree that he is no longer ‘Royal’ by giving up his titles and living quietly in the US with his family?

No, I couldn't care less what he's called, but I do wish he'd live the quiet life he said he wanted. He surely has enough money to do so - didn't his mother leave him more than William because of him not being the future king?

ghostyslovesheets · 22/06/2021 21:32

oh goody - another lets all hate Meghan debate Prince Harry thread

Penistoe · 22/06/2021 21:33

I’d be more interested in Andrew giving up his

This. I’m no fan of Harry and Meghan but I do believe the royal family have been exploiting public opinion on them to take the heat off the elephant in the room.

BastardMonkfish · 22/06/2021 21:34

'Meghan is the Duchess of my left ventricle. The other three chambers of my heart are dedicated to Diana, the People’s Princess.'

That makes sense. Can't forget about the People's Princess. What about Anne, Princess Royal though? Princess of offaly bits - kidneys maybe?

CiaoForNiao · 22/06/2021 21:34

I don't think it would actually make any difference if he did. He'll always be the Queens grandson, and therefore of interest to the media.
And people will always call him Prince Harry, even if its not his title.

georgarina · 22/06/2021 21:34

Yes. You'd think he'd want to after decrying such a toxic institution

persnickle · 22/06/2021 21:34

I'm happy for him to keep them.

romdowa · 22/06/2021 21:36

When Andrew gives up his , then maybe Harry should. Until then, let Harry keep all the titles he wants. He might be a lot of things but he will never compare to Andrew.

persnickle · 22/06/2021 21:36

They have lost the HRH already - she won't give up the title without a fight - loves to use it attract attention to herself and bring in the bucks.

She, of course! Even if she does love the attention & money who gives a fuck?

Iggly · 22/06/2021 21:38

YABU

The entire royal family needs to give up their titles.

Anyone who thinks that they have any thing other than a historical reference should have a word with themselves.

No more royal family. Let them keep the land and wealth they looted over the centuries, but let them disappear and live as a filthy rich, over entitled family out of the public eye.

persnickle · 22/06/2021 21:39

He isn't being supported by taxpayers £££ so what's the issue?

I think it's the cage he was talking about. People generally feel like they "owned" some part of him. They can't handle that he walked away. It's really weird.

Tistheseason17 · 22/06/2021 21:40

Wish people considered Andrew even a smidgeon as much as they persecute H&M 🙄

ilovesooty · 22/06/2021 21:42

I'll give this thread until 9.43am tomorrow.

Anyone else fancy entering a sweep?

StayCalmX · 22/06/2021 21:43

I think he should yes. Forfeited the right to keep them when he went on Oprah

Freddiefox · 22/06/2021 21:43

Of course they shouldn’t, he’s born a prince, whether he’s a good prince or a crap prince. That’s the whole point, they are born into it, gifted by god….
unless it’s all a load of elitist rubbish and we should get rid of them all. .. now that’s a though.

TheKeatingFive · 22/06/2021 21:43

Yes. It is so fucking weird. I had absolutely no idea people felt this kind of ownership until it played out before my very eyes.

Does anyone remember the ‘she stole our prince’ thread? Mindblowing.

Lilibet2022 · 22/06/2021 21:43

I think it's strange how Harry and Meghan get all the hate. There's literally a Prince who the FBI would like to talk to over the Epstein stuff who is yet to lose his title...

StillWaters77 · 22/06/2021 21:44

I feel about my profession as Harry feels about the institution. Some things aren't that easy to walk away from even when you know they are no good for you what so ever....like a lot of bad relationships I guess.

Haudyourwheesht · 22/06/2021 21:44

They should all give up their titles. Pile of shite, all of it. When the queen dies, the whole nonsense should die with her.

StayCalmX · 22/06/2021 21:45

Ps, Andrew is a different story. He should be interrogated by the FBI but he is clearly going to keep his head down so no headlines are generated

CatherineMorland · 22/06/2021 21:45

I don’t understand why he doesn’t want to give them up, if being royal is as bad as they now make out.

Lilibet2022 · 22/06/2021 21:46

@thekeatingfive yes I remember but I also remember the press interview of Harry in the army where he let his true feelings out. Years before he met Meghan. He's always felt like this.

ThePhantom · 22/06/2021 21:46

Yes ..but he won't. Its their meal ticket

MythsandSparkles · 22/06/2021 21:46

He needs to give up his titles, I don’t want him supposedly representing our country/queen with the level of self destructive, narcissistic wallowing in self pity that’s been going on the last 18 months from him.

To be honest, down with the lot of them, let’s make Princess Ann the next Queen - we can pretend Charles lot never existed.

Although, the track record we have with referendums if we made Head of State a popularity contest we’d end up with the latest love island winner…I reckon the windsors might be just about preferable to that Grin
