The royal family

To think Prince Harry should give up his titles?

Let’s face it, he has suffered immensely being born into the most famous and privileged family in the world. His titles were bestowed solely due to the family he was born into with the expectation that he would be a ‘working’ member of that family in return for the privilege and unfathomably (to us plebs) luxurious lifestyle he enjoyed (or not as he says now).

He has thankfully escaped his gilded cage and is no longer a working member of the family, in fact he has completely trashed that institution and in doing so also the Head of it, his Grandmother, the Queen while her husband of 73 years was ill in hospital and dying.

As he has suffered so much due to the public interest of his life (interest purely due to his title) by the public and the media so much, shouldn’t he just jack it all in and decree that he is no longer ‘Royal’ by giving up his titles and living quietly in the US with his family?

@persnickle no I didn't get permission I'm being dragged off to the towers tomorrow. GrinI don't think it's that they can't see through it they chose not to see it. We like the Downton Abbey esque of knowing our place in society and we shouldn't have the nerve to try and level up. You know that bit in titanic where Rose's mum looks at Mrs brown and mumbles 'new money' disdainfully? That's the anti megs press.

I of all people am disappointed Harry didn't chose me for his wife but I'll get over it. About time the rest of the world did too and leave him and his wife & kids in peace. Title or no title. He'll still be Prince Harry.

persnickle · 22/06/2021 22:25

Everyone hates him too. Literally no one will defend him so it doesn't make for very interesting discussion. You're not going to get an 'AIBU to think we should see more of Prince Andrew' thread.

There defo seem to be less threads about PA facing the consequences of his actions or embarrassing the RF though.

AL257 · 22/06/2021 22:25

No, just let them be

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 22/06/2021 22:25

I am 100% behind a totally scaled down monarchy, I'm all for totally reducing everything about them except for the immediate line and I think at this moment for Charles to ban Harry's son from a title is incredibly insensitive and inappropriate with the history in that family group, ie vanilla, Diana, Charles and the sons.

I might be sorry I asked, but who is vanilla?

I don't even really get the whole class obsession either!

That’s because it’s been stalemate for months on end. Wait until Ghislaine Maxwell’s trial starts. I bet she sings like the proverbial canary if there’s a plea bargain on offer.

Yeah Im not buying that but you're entitled to your opinion.

Yep.

There's a current thread I posted on today. There's been a Channel4 piece about Epstein, the Met, and Prince Andrew. Incriminating.

No one has posted on it, apart from me and one other.

But hey... let's lay into H&M ..

PicsInRed · 22/06/2021 22:32

@Tistheseason17

Wish people considered Andrew even a smidgeon as much as they persecute H&M 🙄
Andrew allegedly participated in the alleged trafficking and alleged rape of women and allegedly girls.

Prince Harry married a black woman. That's where the rage went. Towards that marriage.

Not the alleged trafficking and rape.

Far too many British people have exposed their most firmly held priorities.

@Iggly

YABU

The entire royal family needs to give up their titles.

Anyone who thinks that they have any thing other than a historical reference should have a word with themselves.

No more royal family. Let them keep the land and wealth they looted over the centuries, but let them disappear and live as a filthy rich, over entitled family out of the public eye.

Agree

Except for the art. The Royal "collection" should be shared with the world. The Da Vinci illustrations recently "discovered" could have actually augmented 19th century medical knowledge apparently.

ICanSmellSummerComing · 22/06/2021 22:34

OK, I’ll bite - what developments have occurred since November 2019? Because I seem to have missed them.
Elys3 · 22/06/2021 22:35

They should all give up their titles, roles and live quietly. I can’t stand any of them.

SunscreenCentral · 22/06/2021 22:36

That said, the Royal Family are going to become more important as Brexit rolls in.

Doesn't matter what Harry does. He will always be Diana's youngest. He'll never truly escape.

That's the link to the thread I'm on. The footage is on it, 19 minutes of an investigative piece by Channel 4.

@ICanSmellSummerComing

Gedid.. Very interesting comment maybe it's wills who needs to be nurtured though?
I don't think anyone should be neutered! Earlier in the thread somebody misread "give up title" for "give up testicles". I probably should have replied directly to them tbf.

I wasn't intentionally being a prick towards PH, who I have a lot of respect for.

Roussette · 22/06/2021 22:39

BlossomToes

Go on the thread and you can watch the C4 piece. If you're interested that is

TheKeatingFive · 22/06/2021 22:40

what developments have occurred since November 2019?

Well it’s not like we need ‘developments’ for a H&M thread. Meghan touched her bump. Meghan wore a coat. Meghan held her baby wrong. Posters have started threads on here on all of those topics.

persnickle · 22/06/2021 22:40

Huh? Where did I claim there were new developments? I just don't agree the lack of new developments is the reason for the lack of attention. Even in the height of PA's press storm I don't recall the same number of threads & vitriol. I genuinely believe some people think H has behaved far worse than PA.

TheKeatingFive · 22/06/2021 22:42

I’ve seen people on here claim they’ve become anti monarchy because of H&Ms actions.

No mention of Andrew.

Thanks @Rousette. I’ll check it out.
