I remember the Andrew Morton book coming out and how it was denied that Diana had owt to with it at the time...

Meghan has that great American ability of showing an organisation how to make some money so that they can support themselves. So much more important than a photo opportunity. She will be a big loss.

Will she really be?

Smartworks, the charity with whom she did the excellent capsule collection with M&S, John Lewis, and her friend Misha Noon, recently had a fundraising auction of items donated by celebrities including Victoria Beckham, Geema Carterton, Michelle Dockery etc. Nothing was donated by their patron Meghan (despite the fact that she must have some dressy hats and clothes that won't be needed again in her new life). They raised £77,000 through that. They have also raised £500,000 through their corporate partnership with Bobbi Brown.

The National Theatre, obviously really struggling int he post-Covid world, hads been running all sorts of fundraisers. Their royal patron, Meghan, is nowhere to be seen in them, however.

@creamorwhite

It's very hypocritical of them to say they want privacy and then to sign up for a Netflix reality show. Also they want to showcase their charity work - I thought the point of charity work was not to get praise and recognition but to do it as a selfless act? They could have stayed in the RF and showcased charity work for the queen there! All seems tacky.
Well you would think that the point of charity is as you say not to get praise etc. But having worked for a charity just before the pandemic hit most people clearly didnt agree - it was a rare day when a donation came with the phrase "no need for a thank you" so many were only concerned with when and how we would publish their donation. Yes it worked both ways as we needed the publicity that came with a thank you but even so! Philanthropy is without knowledge.
Maireas · 28/09/2020 12:30

Well I hope if there's no prominent picture of HM on display in the house, I hope she gets arsey and complains to the media 😂 😂

slithytoveisascientist · 28/09/2020 12:40

^^ 🤣😂

OVienna · 28/09/2020 13:05

@Royalinsider

I was born in the 90s but have heard seen some of the Fergie headlines. Charles paid for some fantastic PR to make many change their minds about Camilla and she has had pretty good press since she married in.

@GetOffYourHighHorse you haven't seen the show (and you wouldn't like it anyway), you probably haven't read the book and they didn't write it and were not interviewed.

Yeah. Some of us here saw the press of the 80s unfold - live - here and in the US. You don't have to believe us that the press was as bad for other royal brides - I am saying that had you seen and read what we have at the time it was happening you may well take a different view.
OVienna · 28/09/2020 13:06

And also: if it has been reported in the media Doria was appointed CEO of a company - she is now a public figure. We can talk about it this story.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 28/09/2020 13:20

Placemarking

Royalinsider · 28/09/2020 13:22

A Sussex rep says the couple "are not taking part in any reality shows." Source adds that the only shows in development now "are the ones we have previously confirmed" — a nature docu-series and an animated series celebrating inspiring women.

Royalinsider · 28/09/2020 13:24

Both the Queen and Charles have been followed and filmed at length for various documentaries.

Charles was followed for months for his 'Charles at 70' and the Queen was followed for one that included Angelina Jolie.

Royalinsider · 28/09/2020 13:26

Meghan has donated some of her items to Smartworks and has done some mentoring from California

GetOffYourHighHorse · 28/09/2020 13:31

'Charles was followed for months for his 'Charles at 70' and the Queen was followed for one that included Angelina Jolie.'

Yes as part of their Royal role and not after chuckimg their toys out of their pram whining about privacy issues.

You're also missing the point. They have ditched Royal duties yet they are using their Royal fame to line their pockets and be celebs. All very grubby.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 28/09/2020 13:34

I’m a Brit in the US and I’ve not seen much coverage of their doings over here, it’s the British media that’s following them ( IMO, perhaps I don’t look at the right websites). I wish them well, but
unless they produce something amazing with their Netflix deal, I can’t see them making much of a splash here. Americans like a Royal wedding, but ultimately, they’re interested in athletes and a few major actors, perhaps, that’s it. They’ll be fine in their Santa Barbara/LA bubble, but I don’t think anyone else will take much notice of them. Perhaps if Meghan gets into Californian politics- but she’ll need some influential people behind her, Harry’s forrin Royal connections won’t be enough.

Maireas · 28/09/2020 13:35

The Charles at 70 documentary did not follow him stepping back and claiming to want privacy. That's the difference.

Zuluqueen · 28/09/2020 13:37

So they are not doing a reality show?🤣

Royalinsider · 28/09/2020 13:37

Their rep has said today that they are not a doing the reality show

Roussette · 28/09/2020 13:41

Is Doria fair game now too? Surely not. How unfair.

So....she's CEO of a care home, if my mother was in that particular home I would be paying attention but not otherwise. She sounds like a nice lady, she's been a social worker before.

TheNavigator · 28/09/2020 13:42

I never thought they would do a reality shown. It has been shown time and again that the Mail & the Scum tell lies. But posters on here lap it up. Which is why they do it, of course - to get the clicks from sad people who want to justify their definately not racist hate of MM.

Royalinsider · 28/09/2020 13:42

The multi-store collection that Meghan did for Smartworks sold over 10,000 items and lead to over 10,000 item donations (buy an item and we donate an item scheme) and lead to enough items received to keep their charity stocked for a whole year.

All useful items too, Smartworks had previously told Meghan that they were receiving some stock from retailers, but it wasn't always useful. They mentioned they received a large amount of purple blazers and that their clients weren't picking them.

Royalinsider · 28/09/2020 13:49

When a newspaper prints something like today's story, they are fishing/guessing for a storyline and want a reaction and a response from the Sussexes to admit or deny.

Until the news was announced by US outlets, the British press didn’t know that Harry and Meghan even had a Netflix* deal, but they now know what shows they’re going to produce?

*Remember the Spotify story?

GetOffYourHighHorse · 28/09/2020 13:51

'Their rep has said today that they are not a doing the reality show'

Well they won't call it that will they. I bet they still feature in whatever they are shining their lights on. So not a 'reality show' per se, more a cosy 'behind the scenes', bit like her 'garden chat' with Gloria.

OVienna · 28/09/2020 13:55

What do you mean by "fair game" ? It is unmentionable to discuss a new job she has?

OVienna · 28/09/2020 13:55

She's an adult, after all. Archie offlimits - yes.

OVienna · 28/09/2020 13:57

I don't particularly care one way or the other. I'm just fascinated by the idea that there has to be a news blackout on some people.

Would it be okay to discuss Thomas Markle and any work he does?
