I thought we could have a thread for latest news. MN did say they didn't mind one or two threads. And no rules except stick to MN guidelines. It's Meghans birthday today I just read. And the Queen has wished her a very happy birthday on the royal Instagram page according to that popular Oracle the DM.

Believe me they do. It is simply not feasible for lifestyle to add up otherwise.

The occasions you mention have been well-publicised - together with others - and those RF members in question, pulled apart over the issue. Rightly so.

Putting them to one side, I genuinely don't think the Royals accept free clothes etc. But I'll believe you when you show me where it's recorded. Smile

Roussette · 07/08/2020 15:26

Arrietty to be fair to the Spanish RF, it is only ex King Juan Carlos and wife who has fled to Dominican Republic (although still in Abu Dhabi at the moment). Agree, he brought stability back then, but seems to have made up for it with every crime going. And only fled to avoid prosecution.

There are plenty of spanish citizens who want to get rid of the lot of them, what with that and catalan independence, Spain has a lot going on. We have connections over there and were in the area when the catalan vote came through, it was some night! And there are always anti monarchy marches. The RF over there really could go, it's about 50/50 at the moment, and that was before JuanC put himself into exile.

Perhaps UK is going this way... fragmented RF, Scotland independence, etc. I think it's all going to change when the Queen isn't around.

I wasn’t suggesting that a whole RF would suddenly flee. I was just trying not to make any predictions about who in the BRF is most likely to get involved in a corruption situation and then run away into exile. Grin Don’t want to attract deletions. Smile

I didn’t actually realise Sofía had gone with KJC. I thought they were de facto separated?

Roussette · 07/08/2020 15:44

Ahhh got it!

Yes, you're right, she's biding her time undecided. Why on earth she would want to be with him god alone knows. There is a lot of discussion about it all on the spanish FB page I'm on, can't keep up.

ArriettyJones · 07/08/2020 15:50

My fault. I was being so careful think I missed a word out.

I hadn’t entirely realised who Sofia’s sisters were until last year. I know you can’t make simplistic comparisons, but it’s tempting to comment that she was particularly unlucky in some aspects of her life.

ArriettyJones · 07/08/2020 15:53

Oh no, not “sisters”. Sofía only has one. Maybe I was thinking of cousins and contemporaries in the 60s.

Roussette · 07/08/2020 16:18

Thinking of a sister... King Felipe had to strip his sister and her husband of titles Duke and Duchess of Palma and the husband was flung in prison on corruption charges.
Makes our RF look whiter than white!

Makes our RF look whiter than white!

So far.

It depends what’s established about The Duke of York. Potentially he could come out of the everything as the worst, most criminal, European royal in a very long while.

Roussette · 07/08/2020 16:25

True. Who knows what's going to come out with him.

WinnieTheW0rm · 07/08/2020 16:59

But if the boot were on the other foot and Archie is settled and growing up in the US, and they split up Archie stays in the US. He comes to the UK to see Dad and BRF

Yes that wouid be fair if any of that came to pass.

SunbathingDragon · 07/08/2020 17:31

I hope they stay together - but I can not see her for a minute allowing Archie back to the UK.

I thought it was very odd considering they had FMC et el for them not to bring Archie back in January - March -they didn't. Nanny could have come on the private jet and tucked Archie away -but I think on British soil in he chose to leave her -she knows the baby would have to stay in the UK.

Autumn and Peter split up recently. Apparently (and this is pure rumour) she wanted to return to Canada. She had given up her faith, her country etc to marry him and live on Princess Anne's estate. She has been very quiet -and despite rumours of her wanting to go back to Canada with the children -instead she is given another house and an allowance on Princess Anne's estate. Although I have to say she's not said anything. It would appear family are saying she wanted to stay here, but to "be close to the girls" I can't help wondering if the implication is that she was allowed to return to Canada without them.........

Legally the monarch is the guardian of his/her children and grandchildren. I’m not sure about great-grandchildren (it possibly includes all living descendants, although the law was written at a time when people weren’t expected to still be alive with great grandchildren) but no matter how healthy and well HMQ currently is, it is reasonable to expect that Charles will become king during Archie’s childhood and his therefore guardian. I’d be very surprised if it was enforced but can see it would be used to ensure a 50/50 custody agreement in the event of a split.

Sorry if this has been posted previously and I hope no one objects to links from the Independent 🙂

An interesting observation on Harry by a royal biographer.

@KayakingOnDown really?? Where did you read that??

KayakingOnDown · 07/08/2020 18:02

On the other thread. Apparently Omid Scobie said it.

If Omid Scobie did say that it adds to the impression that he is proving to be less of a friend to H&M than he seems to think he is.

SunbathingDragon · 07/08/2020 19:36

Is OS a royal editor or just someone who reports on H&M?

ArriettyJones · 07/08/2020 19:39

He is some kind of royal correspondent for Harper’s Bazaar, I think.

He is also a couple of degrees of separation, socially, from MM’s gay best friend.

Viviennemary · 07/08/2020 20:14

I agree with that article in the Independent. Harry is interested in the military and he could have carved out a useful role for himself in the UK working with new recruits say. And still keep up with his interests in Africa. Instead he is in L.A.. what's there for him? Can't think of much.

Really, no amount of tiaras and castles can make up for your own freedom! I get their huge privilege but it doesn't sound like a nirvana to marry into that scene.

She and Peter had been together since 2003 and married since 2008 so whilst there may have been truth in wanting to return to Canada, for many people that time (especially at her age) would be enough to feel you now feel completely at home in the new country and not really relating to what you left behind. Then there is the dilemma of your children having been born and raised away from where you originally came from.

Completely agree. No amount of tiaras or castles would make up for it for me either.
