I thought we could have a thread for latest news. MN did say they didn't mind one or two threads. And no rules except stick to MN guidelines. It's Meghans birthday today I just read. And the Queen has wished her a very happy birthday on the royal Instagram page according to that popular Oracle the DM.

This is a particularly good article about the court case and the judge.

The Times has a good article today too.

You don’t have a share token, do you, @My0My ?

Roussette · 06/08/2020 20:56

I thought it was CNN for the moment.

An interesting news site Hmm

Lots of articles on CCN by guest contributors and the one that wrote that article ... her twitter page is an interesting read and I've got more followers than she has!!

She likes to call Meghan Markle 'Malibu Meghan'

Very prfessional....

ArriettyJones · 06/08/2020 21:00

What is it? Shady? I’m cooking now so I can’t check the whole site.

Sorry if it’s something dodgy. Someone posted the link on FB and I just read that article.

Roussette · 06/08/2020 21:05

Not sure it's 'dodgy' as far as malware or anything. It is some sort of norwegian news outlet that relies on guest contributors... a small enterprise

My0My · 06/08/2020 21:10

Sorry no! But it was along the lines of it was a minor victory for now. The headline was “Judge accuses Meghan of using media in legal battle”. There was overwhelming evidence that the duchess’s side have been “energetically briefing the media about these proceedings from the outset”.

AN we’re criticised too of course. In addition The Times states that AN has more work to do in persuading the court their claim...... the real motivation for H&M in bringing the case is to “wage their own campaign against the press”. So there we are. Round 2 concluded.

ArriettyJones · 06/08/2020 21:57

Interesting. The judge is clearly no fool. I hadn’t actually appreciated how long the gap would be between this heating and the full hearing.

@Wolfgirrl

Can I ask a question? Where do you think they will be in 5 years? Asking so we can revisit the thread in 2025 and see if our predictions came true!
I think he’ll be back in the UK. Not sure about her...
KatherineParr4 · 07/08/2020 00:41

I think they’ll have split up and he will be back in the UK.

Sorry Meghan. "Reaching Out" doesn't make you influential Hmm

Roussette · 07/08/2020 09:20

It's Britain's most influential people, why would she be on there if she's American? I glanced at the list and they mostly/all seemed to be British.

But the DM likes to make it about Meghan!

There's some great names on there.

Bemorechicken · 07/08/2020 09:32

@Wolfgirrl

But it isnt free posh dinners they need, it is money, a lot of money. Hollywood is mega bucks, to buy the sort of palatial mansion they will want will cost tens of millions. Then there is the huge security bill they face, the cost of lawyer fees with all their court cases. The money they owe on Frogmore, which they are supposedly paying rent on every month plus extra to reimburse the public for the building work. Not to mention every day bills, staff salaries (how many staff do they have again?), PR... we're talking tens of millions every year.
Harry has about £30 million I think from his mother and some investments. Think about the gifts she had and others have had (Princess Diana). And that's not including money from bank of Dad and Gran. I wouldn't be surprised if he has £200 million in investments and property etc tucked away. I don't think they are as cash strapped as people think. Prince Edward had to renew his lease on his gifted "house" and they didn't struggle to pay the £5 million due for another 100 year lease. For M&H, They have been living rent free for the past 2 years and Harry -all his life. I doubt they are paying for FMC. More likely coming from the DOC and some sort of tax relief on the repayments or something. Plenty of people will be offering them "free" places to stay and if you have an £18 million house and you aren't using it as you are based in NY or whatever -honestly -it is probably easier to them M&H living it as staff will still have clean, maintain it & the grounds etc. And you jet it for the weekend -for the odd catch up. My parents have multiple houses in different countries and if one of us fancies a trip to the US -(not currently!) they just give us the keys if we want to stay. Doesn't really cost them "anything" and we check everything when we are there -even if I give them £500 for the 4 weeks -it is less than the electricity & water we use.

So they will be having income from investments, shares, etc PC is covering security I think (aka the tax payer albeit from another route). I'd imagine clothes and stuff are freebies.

I hope they stay together - but I can not see her for a minute allowing Archie back to the UK.

I thought it was very odd considering they had FMC et el for them not to bring Archie back in January - March -they didn't. Nanny could have come on the private jet and tucked Archie away -but I think on British soil in he chose to leave her -she knows the baby would have to stay in the UK.

Autumn and Peter split up recently. Apparently (and this is pure rumour) she wanted to return to Canada. She had given up her faith, her country etc to marry him and live on Princess Anne's estate. She has been very quiet -and despite rumours of her wanting to go back to Canada with the children -instead she is given another house and an allowance on Princess Anne's estate. Although I have to say she's not said anything. It would appear family are saying she wanted to stay here, but to "be close to the girls" I can't help wondering if the implication is that she was allowed to return to Canada without them......... www.tatler.com/article/autumn-phillips-will-not-return-to-canada

The Royal Family are not allowed to accept 'freebies'. Whether that still applies to M & H, (or whether it ever did to Meghan) I don't know. If they are now allowed to accept gifts - could Ralph Lauren bung Harry some polo shirts in different colours to grey please?

I think that wouid be a pretty normal arrangement for school age children who are settled in one country as their normal place of residence. Trips to their other parents country wouid be during the school holidays

Officially. Yet we all know Andrew and Fergie have accepted all sorts of gifts including large sums of cash. Similarly, the Paul Burrell case exposed how many gifts Charles and Diana were inundated with and even struggled to dispose of.

There’s no clear line between freebies and commercial arrangements. William and all his in-laws benefit from an arrangement with Land Rover which provides them with free or cheap vehicles.

The Phillips are allowed to advertise milk (Peter) or be highly paid business consultants (Zara). Edward and Sophie both worked commercially early in their marriage or before. I don’t really believe that they turned that off like a two and haven’t eating a penny professionally since.

So it’s all a matter of degree and discretion. At some point a lot more will emerge about the finances of the sprawling BRF.

ArriettyJones · 07/08/2020 11:36

Turned that off like a tap^

meercat23 · 07/08/2020 12:04

I suppose in a way that is no difference to social media influencers. Companies are happy to have their goods seen in use by those they consider to be influential. I am sure it has always happened to some extent.

ajandjjmum · 07/08/2020 12:15

ArriettyJones
There are always those who will take advantage - probably Fergie and Andrew head the list.

Re. Gifts - I thought they were all listed - so it's in the open what has been received.

I think the Zara/Peter/Wessex thing is more difficult. Presumably the Queen makes a payment to her DC as there is no longer a Civil List, which would cover the Wessexes and presumably Anne and Andrew.

Zara has been given positions/payments/sponsorships due to her skills - although I'm sure that having HM as your granny didn't harm her. Certainly many other riders also receive sponsorship. Peter is different, but he doesn't get any money from the Crown, and has to earn a living.

I have heard rumours that the Middleton family get concessionary rates on cars, but not sure if it's true.

ArriettyJones · 07/08/2020 12:21

Yes @ajandjjmum I agree some of it is ethically fine and some of it is clearly not.

Similarly to the parliamentary expenses brouhaha, though, the issue will be where the lines are drawn.

Believe me they do. It is simply not feasible for lifestyle to add up otherwise.

So Meghan didn't get a freebie flight for baby shower then........ and doesn't receive gifts and PH doesn't get any gifts.

Sunninghill House sold for £3 milliion ABOVE it's asking price -you say what?? You put your house on the market for 500K, it stays there unsold and then somone trots down the drive and offers you 100K and you think that if someone did that to a neighbour that is wasn't dodgy..........??

This is Spain www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-53415781 but you don't think it is possible that the BF have people over the years that might possibly don't something similiar? ??

But if the boot were on the other foot and Archie is settled and growing up in the US, and they split up Archie stays in the US. He comes to the UK to see Dad and BRF.

Can you imagine a cluster like that here? The BRF fleeing to the Caribbean to hide?

I wouldn’t entirely rule it out. Although I think KJC got a longer rope than most would because of his role in restoring democracy and rebuffing the later coup.
