Then again the meaty parts aren't there for actresses that aren't character actresses - there's a lot of roles for actresses like M with a certain amount of good looks, but there's loads of actresses that can do those roles. Very few make it big and I'd say often it's pot luck. Horrible industry when you think of some of the men in power as well.

DixieLandReject · 03/05/2020 22:11

I'm watching suits now. She's appalling. I expected bad but this is worse than I imagined. Very wooden and limited facial expression.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 03/05/2020 22:12

I saw her in an episode of Castle where she was the baddie for about 30 seconds and CSI New York when she was cleaning someone’s bathroom in her underwear. Not really sure these roles are the stuff of Oscars.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/05/2020 22:12

mamansnet I've only seen her in Suits and she does a perfectly good job within the limitations of the show and the role. She is using her own accent, mannerisms etc so essentially she is playing herself but acting a storyline with reasonable competence.

Whether she would be able to inhabit a character not based on herself is a bit of an unknown. I remain unconvinced.

ButteryPuffin · 03/05/2020 22:20

Doria seems too shrewd and independent to me to give that up. Can't imagine her living permanently with them (for one thing, they like to move on every 6 months and she seems settled in LA) but perhaps they're imagining it will be easier all round for her to stay there a few days at a time if she has her own annex. I could be completely wrong, of course.

Justmuddlingalong · 03/05/2020 22:27

How awkward for Harry. Imagine looking over your morning cuppa, at a member of the family your wife never had. 🤪

DandyWoreHoles · 03/05/2020 22:30

I was a Suits fan, saw the first three or four series. Watched it at the time it came out so not for years.

I remember her being passable and the role being bleurgh. Stereotypical and uninteresting. Her character didn’t get the best lines that’s for sure.

She definitely wasn’t the best actor in the cast but I don’t remember thinking she was terrible, and I do remember DH and I agreeing that one guest actor/actress (only on for an episode) was terrible.

The funny thing with actors I think is that it does depend on the role. That same actor we thought was terrible on Suits then went on to have a leading role on another TV series, and I thought they were good in that. Not great but definitely not terrible.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 03/05/2020 22:38

The whole thing is just awful - really struggling to understand their motivations and why they would want to burn bridges. Just awful car crash happening in slow motion!

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 03/05/2020 22:40

I am worried now about the anal avocado cleansing. Dont want to go into too much detail but thanks dandy for that unforgettable mental image.

RoseAndRose · 03/05/2020 22:40

"and as I looked around the room I saw Ban ki-Moon leading the applause"

Because it would have been extremely rude for him to have done otherwise. I assume this must be some sort of garble, or poor editing, because it seems a bit close to claiming he was unusually impressed, and she must know that was not the case.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 03/05/2020 22:44

lol roses! to the point or what?!

lizzie1970a · 03/05/2020 22:47

Perhaps a byproduct of the anal avocado cleansing can be a new product called "guano-mole", along the lines of civit coffee Smile

(I only learned what both guano and civit coffee were in the past year - you'll have to look them up.)

lizzie1970a · 03/05/2020 22:48

I think M was just name dropping with the Ban ki-Moon stuff and giving herself a pat on the back at the same time.

Dandyish · 03/05/2020 23:01

Sorry Yolo!

Guano coffee Grin

@alliwantisagoodnightssleep thanks for asking how I am Smile I’m still pretty ill tbh. Over 6.5 weeks of Covid and I still need to take it ridiculously easy. And mean ridiculously - I can’t walk to the next room I’m the house without getting breathless and feeling exhausted. So I’m doing a lot of resting. It’s a long haul.

lizzie1970a · 03/05/2020 23:04

God Dandy that sounds tough.

miri1985 · 03/05/2020 23:05

I'm really interested who H&M are marketing their brand to in the US.

They obviously have contempt for anyone who voted for Trump so I imagine a lot of the traditional people who would support the RF in the US are not who they want to appeal to.

The person I imagine they are trying to appeal to is 20-40 fairly educated woman who is on the woke side but I'm really curious will people like that be impressed by people who are only famous by virtue of their family? I feel like the woman I'm thinking of as their ideal customer is the same woman who would scoff at Ivanka Trump for being famous for who her father is.

Gwyneth really has a particular appeal among affluent women, other actresses have tried to do a Goop and have failed so I'm interested to see what H&M will do. Maybe Meghan will surprise us all and develop a brand that is not entirely built on their image as royals something like Jessica Alba's Honest Company.

These are just my musings (as someone who has never studied or worked in marketing) interested to hear what other people think about who their customer is and whether they will be interested in buying books and whatever else H&M have to sell

WafflesandPancakess · 03/05/2020 23:07

I actually loved her in suits, which is why this is all so disappointing. Her character is intelligent and very determined, does the right thing etc. She turned out to be quite an unpleasant person in real life and I think she’s been given a really good chance.

The whole bizarre Sussex Royal website and situation with the daily mail was/ is a bit like she’s acting out an episode of suits but she isn’t winning in the real world.

It’s so sad for a family to split up like this. If Harry was my brother isolated away from his family/ friends whilst also appearing quite unstable I would be very worried.

RosesandIris · 03/05/2020 23:11

I think as time goes on Harry will become more and more unhappy. The
Sheer scale of what he has done will sink in. He’ll become increasingly difficult to live with and then I think M will unfortunately jettison him. I also think she is deliberately alienating them from his family to avoid having to come back for Royal events and get togethers as she hates them.

I know nothing about marketing either but I had a passing thought that their target market might be a lot younger than that - age 15-25 girls/women, interested in appearance, on IG. Not young men at all, even though I think some young British men might have connected with H in some way before all this. I don't know. Perhaps older women too - over 60, interested/admirers of the royal family, those who would have been around the age of Diana, those who like a romantic story.

I'm very resistant to marketing so I don't have a clue really as nothing would induce me to buy products with their name on, but then I don't buy much of anything anyway, definitely not into labels at all.

I think M is very good at marketing.

User0987613 · 03/05/2020 23:15

The alleged granny annex is the first subtle step in divorce. Any woman with a small baby thinking of leaving a marriage considers childcare and support first. Having your mum as a live-in granny to support you with a toddler is the ideal scenario. Hubby will go find freedom 2.0.

Lordfrontpaw · 03/05/2020 23:16

I have been in marketing for - bloody hell - almost 30 years. On some pretty big brands too.

Nah. You need substance behind the brand or it will ultimately fail as - let’s face it - you can’t fool
all of the people all of the time. However Trump is the spectacular exception to the rule.

lizzie1970a · 03/05/2020 23:18

I can't see how they're happy right now. Nothing seems to have gone their way. Regarding the book title - have they found freedom? They seem to have swapped one set of problems for another. Plus the ending isn't clear (even the short-term ending) so how can the book be written - it's hardly been a success in terms of what they want to achieve. It's early days yet but they haven't hit the ground running in their new life. It does make me wonder if they are behind this book. On the one hand, it seems to early, but on the other I think they'd do anything to make money and I think there is a sense of striking while the iron is hot.

lizzie1970a · 03/05/2020 23:20

"too" early, not "to".

BlueChangling · 03/05/2020 23:21

There was a blind item the other day stating that Gwyneth and Goop are on the verge of signing and exclusivity deal with People magazine for promotion, meaning she'll give them first dibs on info and they won't promote any other brand

If it's true it isn't good news for Meghan of she plans on launching a life style brand, without People magazine I don't see how she can promote or make a success of it.

Nanalisa60 · 03/05/2020 23:29

Finding Freedom !! Jesus you would have thought they were locked up in Robben Island or Alcatraz instead of sitting in the lap of luxury in Frogmore Cottage.

Talk about bitting the hand that feeds you!! There will be know coming back after this, it’s just like a kiss and tell.

Feel so sorry for the Queen and Prince Philip!! Just what they need at there time of life!!
