I think I’ll regret asking, but: what toe sucking story? Shock

TinRoofRusty · 09/05/2020 23:14

There won't be, either, at least not "A" list directors, as she can't act.

And there are many reports that she's very hard to work with.

Sorry, Mummy - I see I cross posted with you

FannyCann · 09/05/2020 23:21

I remember the day the story broke, I was staying in holiday with my sister and friends, we had every single newspaper - have to say there were some classic headline jokes.
Remember this was pre-Internet. The Royals were at Balmoral and would have come down to breakfast to see the newspapers awaiting...
I'd give several years of my life to have been a fly on the wall at that breakfast.

BarleylemonPenguin · 09/05/2020 23:23

Is Fergie dressed as a chicken in that Sun photo?

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/05/2020 23:28

No worries Puzzled Smile

FannyCann
Ah yes, that would have been interesting. PP would have been quite the picture.

Viviennemary · 09/05/2020 23:34

I remember when the story broke there was a photograph of Fergie just after she'd been turfed out of Balmoral for her bad behaviour and on her way home. Like a naughty child expelled from school. I felt a bit sorry for her. Bit of double standards in that family.

ButteryPuffin · 09/05/2020 23:35

I don't understand why Prince Philip is quoted in that Express story as saying 'There but for the grace of God go I'. Surely that would indicate some sympathy?

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 09/05/2020 23:37

I remember it too. It’s not a story you’d forget in a hurry. I think i read somewhere it was that she got caught on camera as opposed to the actual incident. Appearances you know 🤷🏻‍♀️

FannyCann · 09/05/2020 23:37

Yes, even I had a modicum of sympathy.
She was hounded in the press, it must have been horrible.

FannyCann · 09/05/2020 23:40

I seem to remember reports that the Queen was particularly upset that she was cavorting with another man in front of her young children, there was a picture of them looking a bit Shock
I'm with the Queen on that.

StartupRepair · 10/05/2020 01:35

There are worse photo s oh her topless in the pool with the guy and her young daughters. It was an invasion of privacy as she was in a private villa buy it was very tacky behaviour.

Nanalisa60 · 10/05/2020 01:50

Just seen Harry’s latest in facebook god he looks to thin , must be the no drink, no fat, no sugar west coast no fun diet he is properly been but on.

GlorianaCervixia · 10/05/2020 06:12

This People magazine article from 1991 gives a very good overview of Fergie back then. This came out before the toe-sucking story but there were obviously a lots of stories about her seeing other men circulating before then. Best quote from it must be this: “Says a longtime acquaintance: “You have to remember that Sarah is not very bright and has bad judgment when it comes to people. Sometimes she just carries on as she did before marriage, with no consideration for her royal status.””

Update on Prince Andrew in The Times today

A royal source said: “There’s no way back for Andrew, he’s a busted flush. Nobody in royal circles or the public seems to be mourning his absence from public life. The Queen is a pragmatist, she’ll be fully aware that’s how people feel.”

TimeLady - you are very kind with your sharetokens. It's very much appreciated.

The Queen is a pragmatist. She'll be fully aware that's how people feel

I like that. I hope it's true. Bad behaviour is bad behaviour and it's gratifying to see that she is still being sensible about it all, despite the familial links (and her advancing years).

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 10/05/2020 07:52

Thank you TimeLady

I’d forgotten the girls were with her Fanny I would not have wanted to be her at breakfast that morning.

TimeLady · 10/05/2020 08:01

You have to feel sorry for Bea and Eugenie. Their parents seem to have lurched from one disaster to another for thirty years.

Oldbutstillgotit · 10/05/2020 08:09

I remember the furore about Fergie and the seemingly endless reports about her behaviour. And she still attracts a lot of negative headlines . I mention this as there are some people who think only M has had negative press . Oh and Fergie’s Dad was also an embarrassment!

Ineedabreak19 · 10/05/2020 08:18

A bit of a theme going on there, Fergie & her dad embarrassed the RF & MM & her dad are doing the same.

Jillyhilly · 10/05/2020 08:23

I really liked Fergie, all fun and bonkers, when she was first on the scene. I think at the time she was also going to “breathe new life into the stuffy royals” etc etc. The press loves to cast someone in that role.

It seems like a million years ago now.

AtTheFootOfTheHill · 10/05/2020 08:36

Can you imagine how Meghan will be perceived in 20 years time?

Meghan should look at Fergie and realise that she will be less relevant, less well-liked. A lot of people have a soft spot for Fergie because she wasn't all about spin, she was an authentic loose cannon. Meghan is trying to control the public's perceptions of her and still coming out worse than fergie ever did.
I'd like to go for a drink with Fergie.
