hat contribution from Prince Charles explains that deep, over the top curtsey at the recent Commonwealth Service - so calculating

That was exactly my thought when I watched it.

They do seem to have turned off the comments .

Why can't they contribute themselves from their enormous fortune?

"None of the RF have independent wealth, as none of them have earned a wage or salary. It’s all inherited wealth or comes from the public purse."

Most people who are described as independently wealthy have inherited most/a good chunk of that wealth. It normally means someone who is wealthy without the need to earn it, so therefore independent of the need to "sell" themselves or a product.

Bill Gates is now so wealthy he can be independent - although whilst he still owns stock in Microsoft - he isn't really that independent in the Computing field.

But Harry and Meghan get hammered whatever they do - if they use money inherited from Diana or given by Charles they are money grabbing. If they do something to earn it they are selling out and grasping.
And security costs money - even the Kardashians pay a lot for security - and hopefully Meghan and Harry have better security so don't get robbed in Paris or have staff who steal from them.

HarryDaylight · 30/03/2020 18:14

They won't fund their obscenely self indulgent lifestyle when they can sponge off the UK.

They are a disgrace when the country is in deep financial crisis, and sadly, I think that they know that but don't give a fuck.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 30/03/2020 18:16

I actually dont care how they fund themselves, as long as We the Tax Payers aren't paying for them.

And there's the rub... they could move to a croft in the Highlands, live off the land, homeschool their kid, no one would bat an eyelid.

But move to LA, which has more than enough loonies to stalk every sleb in town - they'll need security, if not for kidnap protection then at least burglary protection.

Couple that with wanting to save the world? It's not a good recipe really.

madcatladyforever · 30/03/2020 18:19

I'm done with the pair of them. Others may be more forgiving, but personally I think there are worthier members of the RF who could step into all of their roles and make a better job of it.

I always rooted for them all the way along and really hoped they would stand up to the naysayers and make it work, really contribute something. Meghan seemed to be a breath of fresh air for the family.
However now he just looks like a pussy whipped sap and I've lost all respect for him.
The way he's treated the queen has been disgusting and you don't just up and leave the royal family to selfishly do your own thing.
And throughout he's sounded really whiney and resentful about it.
You don't marry royal either if you can't commit to it.
And don't give me any of that, "You can't help who you fall in love with", crap. Yes you can.
Good riddance to the pair of them, I hope they don't come back.

TheTiaraManager · 30/03/2020 18:19

I expected them to just rename their IG page or can that not be done?

I interpreted today's post as meaning that they won't go live this week after all. Perhaps they have realised with Covid19 people are focused on their physical health & for many severe mental & financial pressures

RosesandIris · 30/03/2020 18:21

Good riddance to the pair of them, I hope they don't come back.

Too much to hope for, methinks.

Molly I don't think anyone has a problem with H&M earning their money, in fact I think they would be applauded for doing so, but it's the trading off their royal status that attracts criticism.

And you're right, security does cost money, but they have chosen a lifestyle that puts them in the spotlight and makes them more vulnerable. I doubt the Wessexes' security costs are particularly high and yet they manage to make themselves useful to HMQ without a lot of fanfare.

Re the security bit - translation: ‘yes the UK taxpayers are still paying but stop bringing it up because we don’t want to talk about it. Thnx. B&M.’

^ this!

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 30/03/2020 18:26

I'm struggling to find any meaning in that IG post.

"While you may not see us here, the work continues". What work?

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 30/03/2020 18:27

That was to Imaginary

Absolutepowercorrupts · 30/03/2020 18:30

Most people who are described as independently wealthy have inherited most/a good chunk of that wealth
Wrong, so wrong. Independently wealthy means exactly the opposite. The wealth of an independent person is their own, they haven't inherited from anyone, that's why they're described as Independent.
I think Harry and Meghan will get hammered because they are grasping and greedy. They want the money but don't want to do the job.

BarleylemonPenguin · 30/03/2020 18:32

Good riddance to the pair of them, I hope they don't come back.

They’ll be back. They’ll be quietly slotted into some ‘useful’ role in a year or two.

OVienna · 30/03/2020 18:33

The picture of her with her hair up in the navy dress is uncommonly reminiscent of the D of Windsor...

ButteryPuffin · 30/03/2020 18:35

Can someone copy and paste the text of the Insta post? I do enjoy their word salad efforts.

Also, would you be able to change the handle of the account but still keep the followers, rather than start from scratch? Twitter would allow that so you could change @SussexRoyal to @SussexRoyalPenguin

DandyPenguin · 30/03/2020 18:36

I'm on a downtown with my CV symptoms again so not at my sharpest right now.

So I thought tomorrow was end day? And they become ex-royal on 1st April? (Queen's little joke).

But not surprising they're doing housekeeping now.

I'm assuming they'll want to keep the SussexRoyal instagram open to retain followers, so will they just keep it dormant under that name for a bit? If so, seems a little ... crass? Can't think of the right word.

ButteryPuffin · 30/03/2020 18:37

Gah! Putting those handles in made it go weird. Was going to say, presume you can make that change on Insta too and still retain your gazillion followers?

DandyPenguin · 30/03/2020 18:38

While I remember because Buttery wrote the word 'penguin', I loved the post a while back saying that the mission to get more ventilators is called Operation Penguin.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 30/03/2020 18:39

aw dandy hope you can sleep it off, if I knew how to do a penguin emoji I'd send one but cba to go back and c&p the last one!

As an aside, has anyone else noticed how much penguin stuff is turning up on FB? funny videos, t-shirts, even charity appeals for 50 penguins stuck in Belarus...

OVienna · 30/03/2020 18:39

I'm sorry about the downturn @DandyPenguin

DandyPenguin · 30/03/2020 18:40

yolo I'm really giggling at "cba to go back and c&p the last one" - is that how much I mean to you? Shock Grin

HarryDaylight · 30/03/2020 18:40

With regards to their security bill : No further comment will be made

That suggests to me that the people who pay tax every month in the UK are paying.

ButteryPuffin · 30/03/2020 18:41

Scratch that request for the word salad, I've found it. Argh!

Abraid2 · 30/03/2020 18:41

Independently wealthy means you don't need to work or have access to another person's money.
