And best wishes to mustress and thanks for her excellent thread titles.

I've never been involved in a thread like this on MN ,I'm interested that you think it was unusual for it not get pulled

I've been here for I think minimum 15 years, possibly 17 (!) and I've never seen a thread with vitriol about someone famous not get zapped. And this is more than just fame... royal family...

peaceanddove AFAIC she was heavily into certain charities and causes way before she met PH, there's stuff out there about it (if you can pick your way through the negative dross)

rockingchaircandle · 25/01/2020 17:57

@peaceanddove
I think generally she was similar to other celebrities who act as ambassadors. They more lend their name than put in lots of work on the ground. In my Instagram bubble, for instance, I often see people criticised for this where it looks more like self-promotion. Not that I necessarily agree, but I think you could say the same of many celebs, male and female.

I do think she's been a great female role model, and Harry's support has been great too, for showing that women don't have to put up with abuse, no matter what culture or institution you're in. I love that they wouldn't stand for it! (my interpretation, I know!)

OVienna · 25/01/2020 17:57

Regarding Instagram no I only saw positive posts on the announcement. In fact I git hammered by their supporters. However I am not combing through it.

rockingchaircandle · 25/01/2020 18:03

I meant to say as well that I haven't followed her closely at all, so apologies if I've left out her good works! Things that did pop up on my radar, like the Grenfell book impressed me.

Thanks for the debate, everyone, however heated! Personally, I hope there is no number 14 and I can bump into the lovely posters I've met here, elsewhere on MN. Probably the 'nice' thread or Trump! And @Encyclo I hope you and your loved ones are still coping the best you can, so sorry again.

Encyclo · 25/01/2020 18:05

Thank you Rocking. I appreciate your kind thoughts

Roussette · 25/01/2020 18:15

Sorry to jump in late Encyclo. I did read about your DS friend, and should've posted at the time. I hope your DS is coping OK. Flowers

I also hope no. 14 takes a hike! It's like watching and waiting for something awful to happen and that mindset is unpleasant. I want the best for them as a couple, not the worst.

Encyclo · 25/01/2020 18:32

Thanks Rousette. Very emotional weekend here. I agree, re thread 14 let all the folks who bonded over cats and dinners enjoy their banter on their own thread,

Let this one fade away

mrscampbellblackagain · 25/01/2020 18:36

It is interesting how people have such different views and interpretations of what has happened. Some people seem to think the RF were unwelcoming/abusive/racists whilst others thing Meghan is some femme fatale and Henry her hapless lovestruck prisoner.

I am sure the RF are pretty odd close up and don't doubt they aren't the most welcoming but I think it is a big stretch to accuse them of being abusive.

I wish H&M well but would just like not to be funding their security whilst they are living abroad - I think most people think that is fair.

CleansUpDragonPoo · 25/01/2020 18:53

I don't wish anyone ill and think, if you're not into centuries old tradition, that the Royal Family are great for tourism income. I thought Harry & Meghan were a great match with William & Catherine for holding up the younger generation as valuable assets while showing a vibrant, dynamic human side. But the manner of Harry & Meghan's exit, even as the Royal Family seemed to bend over backwards to accommodate them, was very disappointing.

Ah well, back to the blueberry gin - as well as lots of fresh lemon, I've found plenty of ice helps deaden the flavour.

Roussette · 25/01/2020 19:00

CleansUp

Try cucumber gin if you ever get the chance, it's delicious! Me and DD1 slurped our way through nearly a bottle over Christmas Blush

colouringinpro · 25/01/2020 19:03

Royal House of Windsor ch4 is very good This week the challenges that Diana's popularity and death caused the RF

colouringinpro · 25/01/2020 19:04

Apparently Prince Phillip was v supportive of her throughout

CleansUpDragonPoo · 25/01/2020 19:11

Hmm cucumber gin - glad you and your DD enjoyed it but thanks but no thanks, I'll stick to plain old London dry gin. When I want exotic, I have fresh lime instead of lemon. Yes I'm a traditionalist! And am constantly amazed at the huge array of flavoured gins available now, and hope the lovely people taking the trouble to buy me presents will heed my oft-repeated wishes and not buy me any of them.

But I understand lots of people enjoy trying the new flavours, I even saw gingerbread flavoured gin available at Christmas time!

yolofish · 25/01/2020 19:12

OK well I'm going to start thread 14, those who wish to read it can, and those don't - well, don't.

I would imagine tomorrow's Sunday papers will contain more nuggets of 'wisdom'.

Cleansup I agree with some of the foul flavours. What a waste of gin!
However, I sometimes make a G&T with a Tanqueray one I've got and slices of cucumber in the summer. slurp!

derxa · 25/01/2020 19:27

Why do they need to make so much money?

Roussette · 25/01/2020 19:32

Hi derxa Smile

Maybe to pay for security if the 'taxpayer' aren't going to stump up for that. Government ministers get security, I think they should too!

And maybe they want to use the money for philanthropic purposes.

CleansUpDragonPoo · 25/01/2020 19:32

Thanks yolo, looking forward to Friendly Fourteen.

derxa · 25/01/2020 19:39

Hi Roussette You're a much nicer person than me. I think we should pay for their security.
Anyway I hope they disappear from view for a while. It'll do wonders for my blood pressure Grin

JulietJanuary · 25/01/2020 19:44

I'd rather use money for philanthropy than living expenses, wouldn't most of us?

JulietJanuary · 25/01/2020 19:45

I have to say the country is stuck paying for their security. No way canada will feel obliged to pay.

Roussette · 25/01/2020 19:47

derxa Nah, on being a nicer person, just hoping for the best with the two, I mean three... of them Smile

Roussette · 25/01/2020 19:48

We're on the end of this thread... see you all elsewhere! Smile
